Indulging Omakase with knives and forks!
2019-01-07  3595 瀏覽
Omakase is basically a surprise, the Chef will create a dinner for you using his creative skills.
The ones I have had in the past in Japanese restaurants revolve around sushi and sashimi but at Le Bec Fin, there is a European twist hence the French name.
I was really excited in trying it out as the current trend of Western culinary with Japanese ingredients is the current trend just like HAKU.
Le Bec Fin is headed by  Chef Hisa who used to work at the Japanese Embassy in Hong Kong.
Chef Hisa uses premium food ingredients using Western culinary artistry so you get to indulge in a totally memorable experience from modern presentation to using knives and forks instead of chopsticks.
Quite a lot of the dishes are cooked in the bichotan oven with charcoal from Japan.
Started with the eel sushi which was perfectly grilled.
In between the eel and the rice was this velvety foie gras butter.
Next was the [foie gras oeuf en cocotte] chanwamushi which had two layers.
It was silky and smooth infused with foie gras.
The French onion soup was the best I have had, it was clear but strong loaded with onions topped with padano cheese.
The bone marrow was glazed with miso butter which was perfect with the baguette slices.
Next was the Grilled Spanish Red Prawn which was crisp and sweet.
I was pleased with more [Linguine Gamberi]
The last savoury dish was Sukiyaki + Mushroom.
Beef and mushroom always make a great pairing in every cuisine and the Japanese mushrooms were the best part having absorbed all the beef and sukiyaki flavours.
Dessert was memorable when the chef used the cocktail shaker to concoct the melon sauce.
Melon Blancmange:
The dessert was definitely a memorable finish, rarely will you see a chef in an Omakase restaurant with a cocktail shaker.

Looked as good as the product shot

I was captivated by the dan dan noodle poster at this joint so ordered it.
When it came, I was quite surprised it actually looked like the noodles on the product shot.
The prawn was obviously placed there to garnish just like the picture.
Anyway, the broth was thick and heavy with a lot of peanuts in it but too sweet for my liking.
The noodles were good but went soft too quickly and because the broth was too sweet, the noodles ended up too sweet for my liking.

I love Christmas especially the food during that period.
There is a lot of chestnuts, cranberries, cinammon etc at play.
At Marks and Spencers, they had Pigs in Blanket sandwich which is trending in UK.
Almost everything is pigs in blanket from pizzas, crisps to tea bags!
On the Vegetarian side, they had NO TURKEY sandwich so I got both to try.
====
Pigs in Blanket:
In this sandwich, there was turkey, sausages, cranberries and bacon.
Basically all my favourites so how could I not like it!

=====
NO TURKEY feast:
For the NO TURKEY feast, it has seasoned roasted soya that has been marinated with sage, garlic, salt and pepper.
As well as that, there was delicious cranberry chutney, caramelised onion and sage dressing and fresh spinach.
It was definitely delicious and I wouldn't have suspected it was was vegetarian.

The only drawback is the price so if you happen to be in UK next Christmas, do try it out!

Found out about this joint after eating Malaysian delights at Café Malacca down the road.I heard some diners mention a restaurant nearby with  a similar name serving similar fare as well so decided to check it out.
This place is called Malacca Cuisine while the other place is called Cafe Malacca.
The menu is quite similar in the sense they have stingray and chicken rice.
Ordered the chicken so that I could get a comparison.

Luckily I got the chicken breast because it meant less bones!!!
The rice was quite hard and clumped together.
The best thing was the bak kut teh which makes it not so boring and you can have chicken and bak kut teh at the same time and they have two for you to choose which is good.
There is a choice of pepper or herbs.
Finished with the mandarin drink which was very aromatic!

[Review 7096] [Rye House] Comforting Nordic Food @ Rye House

Ever since I went to Swedish National day, I have fallen in love with Nordic food because I can relate to it.
Discovered Rye House from another Swedish event where they were doing a collaboration with the Mäckish Girls a while ago during the weekend.
After trying that, I was determined to come back to try the food from Rye House!

There is so much on the menu and they have a salad bar as well.
This was so delicious because the pastry tasted like a thin crispy Ryvita tart filled with potatoes that were silky and viscous topped with creamy egg just like the stuff you get in egg mayo sandwiches.
It is so comforting to see lots of similar ingredients like their prawn and dill filling which tastes just like our Prawn and Mayo filling but with dill in it.
==========
Next was the Nordic Hash (Pyttipannu) , again a really simple but comforting dish that is good on a winters day.
It was diced and fried cubes of potatoes that were fluffy and soft with a perfectly browned edge complemented by fresh organic eggs and pieces of meat.
Basically a delicious dish that you can eat all day or for brunch.

==========
Last but not least was the Finnish Creamy Salmon Soup .

I loved it because it wasn't heavy with chunks of pink salmon and lots of dill.
There was a little butter in it to give it that beautiful golden glow as well enhancing the taste.
All was good and I was shocked that even their hot chocolate was so heavenly.
Will definitely come back again.

The reason why I can relate to Nordic food is that they use a lot of bread and potatoes which is basically the same as the diet in UK.
Interestingly their snacks are really similar to us in terms of flavours and they also have this similar snack to Wotsits!!
==========
Started with the Egg Pie which was on my mind since the first visit!

I appreciate them using environmentally friendly straws which are actually real plant straws. Basically using rye straws for drinking which are biodegradable!

Abalone Sashimi!!!!

Homintin MTR has improved since it opened which makes the exits more accessible.
Sushi Take out is there as well!
I have been eyeing their abalone sashimi for a week now because they looked quite good.
 0 讚好

They sell them in boxes of 8 for $100 or boxes of 4 for $58 so the 8 is a better deal!

I was quite surprised how good they were.
They taste better as sashimi because the texture is less chewy and gives way without being too rubbery.
There is a slight abalone taste if you eat it without the sauces but dipping it in some soy sauce and wasabi makes it even more moresh!
 0 讚好

The shells were worth keeping after I finished because they were very pretty.

I am glad the food scene is improving in HMT, there are so many more Western options now.
I's Corner offers a nice ambiance with a good selection of burgers, pastas and steaks.
I had the seafood pasta in squid ink sauce.

There was so much seafood in it which was camouflaged in the jet black ink sauce.
Each strand of pasta was al dente and deliciously flavoured.
The lamb chops impressed me the most as they were lean and juicy so I am so glad I ordered it.
Finished with tea which was a perfect end to the evening.
