Just the usual stuff
2019-02-10 158 瀏覽
Went here ages ago and the menu is the usual boring stuff eg chicken, steamed fish, claypots etc.
The cutlery was nice and clean NOT!
Had the chicken with rice which was a nice surprise as there was a side of finely chopped cabbage in a refreshing yuzu dressing.
The chicken was boring as usual but I loved the cabbage.
The fish was steamed nicely and the black bits were fermented black beans which flavoured the fish nicely.

Tofu is a popular and healthy ingredient.
There are so many shops serving it such as Kung Woh which is on the traditional and greasy side.
A few years ago Tofuism was very popular with a modern approach where they had shops everywhere but somehow they started to die down with one or two shops currently remaining.
Trending now is Tofuage where they have two branches at Wong Tai Sin and Lam Tin.
I went to both locations and prices are slightly different because I believe one has dine in and the is a takeaway so they have to adjust prices accordingly.
I visited Lam Tin first and the golden tofu was cheaper, you get 7 pieces for HKD20 while at WTS it is $22 for 6 pieces.
Same goes for the Tofu cheese balls which cost HKD20 at LT and HKD22 at WTS, but anyway it was rewarding to see everything freshly made.
Ordered the Tofu Slush because it costs the same at both places.
The original is basically silky tofu at the bottom topped with tofu slush.
It was not too sweet and the tofu slush was fine and uniformly even in size and I loved the feeling when it melted in my mouth as you get the taste of tofu and sweetness.

The golden crispy tofu was delicious cubes of fried tofu covered in salty egg yolk paste.
For drinks, I had the chocolate tofu slush which I wouldn't recommend as the original tasted much better after trying it at WTS.
It is basically silky tofu at the bottom which is then topped with tofu slush from the dispenser and if you order flavoured ones you get a squirt of flavoured syrup in the cup.

There are two places at the Food Market that serves chicken and rice, tried this one first but sadly the flavoured rice was sold out.
The sauce given was too garlicky for my liking but there were other sauces on the table which were good.
The chicken was ok as I requested for the white meat but it wasn't really memorable.
I don't recall much on the taste but the chicken meat was tender and fresh and that's it but I think I definitely tried it at the wrong moment as the flavoured rice wasn't available and there was a 20% surcharge as it was during the CNY.

As I always say, eating good food is always luck and timing.
Walked past this joint and the prawn hargau looked good so ordered some to try.
It tasted good as expected as the texture of the prawn and dumpling skin was springy and the filling was delicious.
(Sadly I ate it too fast and forgot to take a picture).
Anyway, took a walk round the market and decided to get some more as it was delicious but after 30 minutes, the prawn dumplings tasted so different.
The dumpling skin and filling was too soft and the taste was different.
Had I not tried it again I would have probably had a good memory of this joint.

Tasty Mock Shark Fin Soup

At Food Town there are quite a few stalls that serve Mock Shark Fin soup but I chose to try this one because it had fish maw and mock shark fins in the soup.
The soup is clear and runny compared to the usual ones.
According to the shop, they have deliberately not added any starch to it.
It was crammed with so much Shitaake mushrooms, shredded chicken, Chinese ham, vegetarian shark fin and fish maw etc.
I found it a bit too salty otherwise it would have been perfect.
Finished with the lemon barley water which was not too sweet with a good tangy lemon flavour to it.

Kale themed dishes

This joint comes from Macau and they specialize in desserts.I am not a fan of Asian desserts so obviously came here because the Kale themed dishes were worth trying.
They had Kale Rice, Kale dumplings, Kale Jelly and even Kale Cheesecake.
Ordered the Kale dumplings where there is a choice of vegetarian or pork.
I was tempted in ordering the vegetarian ones but then I thought pork would be tastier.
Boy was I naive in thinking that I would get fresh pork in Hong Kong.
The soup was good as there was no msg but the pork was not f r e s h but s m e l l y.
It must be normal getting meat that has gone off in Hong Kong I guess and it really ruins the Farm Direct brand that they are doing a crossover with.
Anyway, I'm forced not to eat meat these days because its just not e d i b l e!!
To be honest, I didn't finish it as I found a strand of h a i r which is obviously not mine in the dumplings.
After I paid, the lady Thanked me for coming so I Thanked her back for the strand of surprise in my soup which I gave back to her!
