Passion by Gerard Dubois at HKUST!!!

While other unis have canteen food, this one has Passion.
Clearly it is popular with those damn hikers who hike to shitkung.
It is a nightmare going to shitkung and transport is crap so on the weekends you have to get the feck out and eat elsewhere.
Tried Passion to see how it compares to Wanchai.
The portions were nice and small but better quality than the other food around in the New Territories.
I liked the risotto which was creative with beetroot and cauliflower.
Obviously the salmon pizza is just salmon slices on top of pizza targeted for locals as there is less cheese so the locals think they are eating a pizza!
Frankly melted cheese and smoked salmon is WEIRD just like the unauthentic fake cheese fondues they serve with raw seafood at other restaurants!

Modern Japanese Cuisine at Lion Rock

Recently went to a media cocktail party at Lion Rock to try their Modern Japanese dishes.
I was quite surprised at their creations as I have only tried the tea sets there.

Before the preview started, there was a sushi and snack bar offering freshly made sushi and Japanese snacks.
To start it off there were various mocktails and cocktails.
I loved the rose and lychee which was sweet and fragrant with a nice fizz.

Here was the menu that we tried that night.

Began with the soups which were all freshly poured in front of you.
Matsutake and Kinoko Soup was the lightest one.
Foie Gras Miso Soup was interesting as it tasted like Chinese preserved liver sausages.
Lobster Broth with Fresh Mushroom was rich and creamy.

These were the mains we had.

Grilled Chicken roulade with Teriyaki Truffle Sauce
Nishikyo Roasted Black Cod Filet with Miso Sauce
Grilled A Miyachiku Wagyu with Shichimi and Lion Road Sauce

Personally I liked the cod as it was delicately grilled to perfection.

The desserts were a nice surprise but then Lion Rock always whips up fun and instaworthy desserts that blow your mind.
There was Green Tea creme Brulee,  Wasabi Chocolate Cake and Rose and White peach Cake.

The peach one was amazing as it was filled with real peach infused with a rosy touch.

Good portion sizes

It was raining when I got out of the MTR so while I was waiting for the rain to stop I noticed this joint as it had a lot of customers waiting outside.
Previously it used to be a congee dessert joint but now it is a different shop selling Hainan Chicken.

Inside it is relatively spacious with big tables and bar tables.
On the wall there are lots of products shots and media clippings.
Hainan Chicken is a must so ordered that.
With every dish served with rice you get to choose chicken oil rice, vegetable rice or plain rice.

The Hainan chicken was really good and I loved the portion of rice as I just love carbs.
Each grain of rice was evenly flavoured with fragrant chicken aroma and the chicken itself was very soft and silky.
For the other dish, had curry beef with vegetable rice which makes it slightly healther.
The curry was creamy and not too spicy while rice was crammed with a fair bit of vegetables.

The golden dumplings looked a bit burnt but the dumpling  wrap they used was a good one because it isn't too hard on the palate.
Inside, there was a fair bit of purple cabbage and the pork was so finely minced that you could taste it but didn't really need to chew it.
I appreciated the way the pork was finely minced so that there is more room for the purple cabbage.
For these dumplings there are about 6 sauces to choose from such as curry, Sichuan etc which are all shown on the menu.
I had the coriander sauce which was light and the spicy chili sauce for the other set but personally the dumplings are tasty on their own and don't really need sauce.

Will definitely be back as I love the portion sizes!
There are two branches but only North Point offers dine in while the one at Chaiwan is take away only.
To dine in, you have to order and pay for the food first before you can sit down.

Salted caramel butter eclair at Chez Shibata

Chez Shibata is not a new brand because they used to be in CWB and Sheungwan. Now they are in Central so lets see how long they will stay.
The range has improved and they serve stylish lattes like the purple latte etc and hot dishes.

The decor was quite nice with flowers everywhere and cake tin cases on the wall that formed a fish.

Ordered the Salted caramel butter eclair because I love eclairs.
It was topped with salted caramel glaze and cubes of butter topped with maldon salt.
The first thing I did was scraping off the butter cubes because its weird eating it like that just like those pineapple buns.
Overall the eclair was quite nice with the salted caramel glaze and it wasn't too sweet.
In the middle it was filled with caramel cream.
The only thing that I didn't like was that the choux pastry because it was a bit stale as it was dry and hard which makes me wonder how long it has been sitting there.

[Review 7259] Haagen Daz kicked out for Tea! @ Comebuytea

Previously this spot used to be Haagen Daz but now it is a tea joint and HD has moved to a smaller joint round the corner!Tea is the trend these days and it costs cheaper than HD icecream while making tea will take longer than scooping out icecream so I guess they will have to have a good turnover.
But then their rent could be cheaper than HD as the mall is trying to attract more people by changing the brands about.

Anyway, ComeBuy Tea has suddenly decided to boom everywhere with some branches at top locations such as the GF of TOP Mall in MK.

I was captivated by the large glass cylinders of tea leafs and the machinery which is similar to coffee machinery but didn't try it because the machinery was rather noisy.
Finally tried the one at HH as it was relatively not so noisy.
The hot tea was actually quite good so I will probably come back to try the guava tea.

Not just Mixian

This spot used to be some funky dessert shop where part of the decor is still there.
I am not a fan of Mixian but since they have other noodles to choose from I went in for the Herbal broth.
The herbal broth was quite strong loaded with pieces of donggwai but sadly the soup was too salty.I would have liked more beancurd sheets as shown on the picture but compared to other photos it was relatively good.
The fruit tea was huge but syrupy.

[Review 7257] Best PANDAN Latte @ Morokok

If it wasn't for an app press con, I wouldn't have known about Morokok which is a Moroccan themed restaurant serving Thai Food.
The items on the menu reminded me of Atum Champak.
Morokok is situated in Mong Kok  which is probably why there is an element of MK in the name combined with Morocco.
The building that it is in is quite interesting as this building used to be just offices and places where people go to redeem stuff.
Morokok has an advantage as they have an outdoor balcony and the whole floor for the restaurant.
Started with pandan latte which is the best Pandan Latte I have had, there was a little grassiness which I really I appreciated as it meant real pandan leaves were used which really makes a difference in taste.
The avocado milkshake was also good but a little thin and not thick enough in consistency.
For the dishes, the Tomyumkung was rather spicy and I didn't like the truffle as it was petrol like.
For the modern dishes, they were spot on in terms of taste and presentation.
Last but not least is a big congratulations to the recruited participants of TASTERNSHIP who get to eat for free and get HKD$1,000 for every review submitted with original photos or video footage (up to 15 reviews).
After months of eatigo Tasternship recruitment, the first batch of 18 top Tasterns have been successfully recruited. In response to the overwhelming applications, eatigo is now kicking off Tasternship Round 2 to encourage further food reviews submitted by the public and search for the next Tasterns!
