Went here for the green algae noodles but ordering was super confusing.
The lady kept saying this and that wasn't available and this and that wouldn't match the broth.
But I suppose she was right because the one she made for me ended up tasting so damn good.
The quality of the fish was really fresh and even though it was spicy you could still taste the fish.
The algae noodles were not as elastic as anticipated because I was worried the texture would be like konjac.
Also had the soup which was clear and oil free.
While sitting there, I was fascinated by the huge bag of noodles.
Will definitely be back!

Dim Sum at the back streets of Cheung Sha Wan

The location of this dimsum joint is rather remote because it is located right on the corner of Cheung Sha Wan near the hospital where all the car mechanics are.
There are two other branches of this in Prince Edward and Causeway Bay.
The decor at this branch is slightly different to the other branches and the staff at this branch are young.
The Menu is the same.

My favourite item was the congee that night as it was made with dried fish and peanuts.
You can find this congee everywhere but this one was my favourite because the dried fish was much chunkier compared to finely grounded pieces at other places.

The rest of the dimsum was just the usual fare.
It was all palatable and fresh which is how it should be but just your average dimsum.

Not really a fan of noodles so came here as the last straw.Had the flat rice noodles in broth with beef balls, beef slices and those weird pork balls.
The beef slices were good which gave a the broth a nice beef flavour.
The rest of the balls were artificial stuff which help fill you but not nutritional as they just contain flour, sugar and Msg.
Although the soup was good, it was a bit oily because of the beef.
The best thing about this joint is that it was become a food court for other food so come here if you've bought some food from elsewhere LOL!

Not your usual snack joint

I was in the area and stopped by because there were so many people buying stuff from here.
There was a heated cabinet at the front and I saw some interesting round shaped thing so ordered it.
The cutlet coating looked good because the colour was how you would expect it to be which meant their oil was fresh.
After taking a bite, It turned out to chicken inside but reconstituted chicken the stuff you find in chicken nuggets.
To be honest, I really liked it and it is a bit like a flat disc shaped chicken kiev without the cheese and it would taste good sandwiched in a burger bun with mayonnaise or ketchup.
Next was the chicken drummette which was also delicious, the coating was crispy and the chicken was juicy inside.
For drinks, I had the sago series as not many places serve drinks with sago.
I didn't have any expectations for the tea because I just don't like HK style tea but it turned out really nice as the tea base they used was different.
The other drink was soy milk with sago which is much lighter.
Will be back for more snacks.
Although the food is good, the service can be cocky sometimes.

Ventured here because everyone is checking out this new venue for Chinese Opera.
I hadn't a clue what this building was going to be when it was being built but it definitely stands out on the road being silver and metallic.
Inside there is a cute wooden house right in the middle of this spacious hall.
On the first floor, there is a Chinese restaurant where people can dine before the show or for the theatrical groups to go and celebrate.
To tie in with Chinese opera, Moon Lok serves quality Cantonese dishes and dimsum by day.
The restaurant is also conveniently located near the China Ferry terminal and Sorrento so you will also find a residential and commercial crowd.
Started with Chinese Roast which was great for sharing and definitely delicious accompanied with rice.
Both were served with soy beans.
The roast pork was impressive, they were thick chunky pieces.
The roast pork we got was soft and moist.
It was quite lean as well which was brilliant.
On the healthy side there was the braised mixed mushrooms with fungus.
There were four different types of fungus in that dish.
It would be good if it wasn't that oily though because it defeats the purpose of being healthy.
For the mains, we had the eel steamed in plum which makes it refreshing as the plum balances the oilyness of the eel.
They also have it in black bean sauce.
The fried rice with minced beef was inspired by risotto which is why it looked so moist when it came.
It was quite nice and tasted like fried rice risotto which the chef intended.
Last but not least was the steamed crab with pork patty which was a huge meat patty ring mixed with crab roe then steamed with the crab shell on top.
The pairing of pork and crab meat were surprisingly good together.
Finished with the almond soup which was nutty and milky.
As it is newly opened, I think I will come back for dimsum and see how it fares.

[Review 7267] London approved Ramen @ 金田家 Kanada-ya

Kanada-Ya is all over the world and there are three branches in London.
This is my second time at Kanada-Ya .
Went to the branch at Whampoa where it is quite a small joint with a bar by the ramen kitchen.
Obviously the drinks are slightly different internationally.
In UK, they have exclusive corn fed chicken whereas Tonkatsu is the main theme here.
There are quite a few main ramen broth bases to choose from.
For starters had the gyozas and kaarage with mayonnaise.
For noodles had the Spicy Yuzu ramen and the MIX.
The spicy yuzu was spicier than expected with the heat coming from the peppercorns which taste like Sichuan Peppercorns.
The yuzu was present but it wasn't as citrusy as anticipated in the sense that it wasn't tart but at least it wasn't artificial with a strong yuzu peel essense.
The MIX was a mix of pork and chicken broth so it was rich and flavourful with a creaminess.
The pork slices for both ramens were soft and tender and my favourite thin ramen is used here.
