Affordable Hong Kong snacks in Central

In Central, everything is expensive but occasionally you can find some affordable items.
Lee Ho Sing on Lynhurst Terrace serves Hong Kong Snacks at affordable prices.
With most Hong Kong Snacks, I don't really bother because I usually get food poisoning and they don't look clean anyway but at LHS, the joint is clean and modern.
It is an open kitchen so you can see the items, technically you can with those other HK style street snacks but the environment is often facing a busy road or with lots of smokers nearby.
You can dine there as the Chinese drums are meant to be tables.

I just had the mock shark fin soup that day as I had already eaten beforehand.
To my surprise, it was loaded with so much fish maw and vegetarian shark fin.
It was tasty on its own so I didn't need any vinegar or pepper.
Also tried the sweet and sour wontons which were appetizing.

On the way back to the MTR station from HKCEC , spotted PAM on Gloucester Road next to Pacific and Starbucks.
It makes that stretch of road look quite nice now with all the nice coffee shops and healthy eateries.
I loved the new scene over looking the Gloucester Road traffic.
Anyway got the sparkling water and Matcha Latte.
The Matcha Latte is Matcha green tea blended with steamed milk and served in a 12oz cup.
It tasted like tea in a light form, slightly grassy.
I had it without sweeteners so it was palatable.
Finished with sparkling water as I was still thirsty as well.

Tim Ho Wan is a Michelin recommended dimsum eatery but to be honest I felt that it was just average just like other dimsum places in Hong Kong.
It is evidently successful in TKO as the area is being renovated yet they are not affected.
Ordered two items which I was expecting to be savoury but they all contain sugar.
Started with the compulsory HKD3 but sadly they only have one choice of tea available which is annoying.
The meat patty was a bit stodgy and the soy sauce that they poured on was sweet.
Last but not least were the beef balls, again weirdly sweet and made worse by the sauce which was supposed to be some vinegar but it was also sweet.
Definitely not as good as the dimsums overseas but the quality of dimsums overseas are also getting worse as there are more Chefs from HK in Chinatown now.
But then who needs to go to Chinatown these days when you can buy Chinese takeaways and dimsums from the local supermarkets which probably taste better.

When I first found out about this restaurant, it sounded really familiar but I didn't know why.
Heard about it late last year but soon forgot about it because the English name is just so random.
I was recently reminded of this place because a friend went and it turns out the location is where CASA used to be.
The menu had so much to offer so it was really difficult to choose.
Every dish we had turned out amazing so I was really pleased especially the ingredients they used.
Started with bread which was served hot.
For the appetizers had the salad, it was nice and hearty as there were sweet chestnuts which you won't find this time of the year and it makes the salad more memorable.
There were chunks of sweet Japanese pumpkin which were sweet and firm.
It was topped with delicious crispy kelp that were crushed into powder and made into these thin crackers which you eat with the salad.
Also had the red endive salad because hardly any restaurant serves this in Hong Kong.
The endive is similar to Chicory which has a bitter taste but the endive salad here was dressed with pomegranate, red cabbage and bottarga which gives it a lovely salty taste.
For mains had the black garlic gnocchi which is basically gnocchi mixed with black garlic.
The sauce which is also black is finely blended onion puree with squid ink and it had a lovely sweet taste owing to the onions.
Finished with the coconut sorbet which was another must for me.
Again it is so difficult to get rhubarb as no one eats this in HK.
I appreciate the generous chunks of rhubarb which were still crisp and intact because some rhubarbs can be rather mushy after being cooked.
Overall, I liked every dish that was ordered.
After I went home I googled this weird English name which almost looks like the secret language that kids speaks in English Schools.
It turns out that TF:vs:JS is a music band and they used to have a restaurant in Ngau Tau Kok which I didn't even know about.
Further googling show the food quality there was just as creative as the dishes I tried here.
So TF:vs:JS is here to stay!

Went here for more delicious soups.
Last time had the silkie chicken and crocodile so this time had the dongwai with red dates and beef.
It was only HKD35 while the other soups are HKD40.
The taste was a bit disappointing this time as I could't really taste any herbs.

I haven't had shaomai from HFT for a while.
This time I was lured by the pork and mountain yam shaomai.
You get HK15 for six.
From the appearance, you can see that they have been steamed for a long time as the yellow pastry is not that bright.
The texture was definitely too soft and you couldn't really taste any pork or mountain yam so it makes you wonder what is in it.
But then for things with blended fillings, don't expect quality meat thrown in.

To be honest, I didn't expect this to be listed here but I do know they have a noodle joint at Jardines Bazaar in CWB.
Didn't feel like getting some meat so got these cuttlefish things which are made with some cuttlefish, mainly flour and some peas which you can see.
They were quite nice, firm and chewy with the occasional piece of pea in it.
They have fishballs as well but I am not keen on fishballs as they taste sweet whereas this isn't that relatively sweet .
