Delicious Modern Indian delights

Discovered this place when I was visiting someone at HKU.
Hunger Strike was so good that I visited this joint twice because I wanted to try everything.
From the outside, you wouldn't think it was Indian but when you see the menu you will find items like kebab hotdogs and Indian burgers etc.

Everything I ordered tasted good as expected.
The taste of the kebabs were really familiar and the guy looked familiar but I couldn't work out where however on the second visit he was wearing a shirt with Tulsi which gave it away.
Tulsi is my one of my favourite curry places so it was no surprise I liked their stuff.
They use the same kebabs and koftas served in hamburgers, hotdogs and naans.

The lamb burger and kebab dogs were my favourites because it has that usual flavour.
The naan lamb burger was good because the naan is chewy and tastes better than a burger bun.

If you order the combo, it comes with some potato snacks which I didn't really like.
Perhaps I prefer fries or something fun like fruit raita or something different.
I definitely recommend the lamb hotdog, beef burger & veggie burger.
They are really flexible so if you don't like naan you can ask for the burger bun or whatever they have that you fancy.
Will definitely be back again.

Cute drinks joint

It was raining and this drinks place had a sitting area so went it for some drinks.

The decor was quite nice and there were some cute hamster plushies.
If you are bored you can try your luck at the soft toy claw machine.
I thought this place would serve cereal drinks or something related but they specialized in taro which is reflected in their Chinese name.
Ordered the Taro and Tapioca pink drink and the Taro balls soy milk.
I had the taro drink because I liked the combination of tapioca and taro.
To be honest, it was quite filling but the best thing it was not too sweet.
The pink and grey colours of this drink go so well together.
I didn't try the other drink but my friend said it was quite good.

There are few delicious hidden Thai joints in Hong Kong and this one is on the Kowloon side.

If only I tried this a few years ago because it was cheaper back then.
Tried the duck noodles which was so damn good because the broth was rich and you can taste the herbs like aniseed that are used to marinate the duck when it is roasted.
There is vat of broth soup which I guess is the duck broth.
The impressive thing was that you get big chunks of edible duck and the broth isn't sweet by default so the noodles taste good.
The pieces of blood jelly in it are also tasty and full of flavour.
Also tried the crispy pork belly with rice.
The quality of the pork belly is just as good as the one in Shitkung but the rice is a million times more delicious.
It was lightly flavoured but moreish.
Can't wait to come back and choose the rice vermicelli with the duck noodles.

Tried this restaurant last year when it didn't even have a proper name.
I am so glad they have made themselves officially a proper restaurant with a name!!!
The food is still the same which was good.

Ordered the spare rib rice vermicelli.
The ribs were a little different to the last visit because they were cut into pieces whereas it was a single rib on the last visit.
The broth was the same, it was strong and rich with a good hint of aniseed aroma.

The desserts here are also recommended.
This time tried the tub tim krob with grass jelly.
For HKD25 the portion was quite big and you get lots of water chestnut pieces and the dessert wasn't too sweet as a whole.
On the previously visit, tried the pandan jelly in coconut milk which is also good.

Different qualities at different branches

Previously had the luncheon ham chicken bucket at Shun Tak's KFC which was damn good so decided to get it again at Metro City.
The queues are long as usual but luckily they now have the self ordering kiosks but you do get some slow people who take ages.

If this had been my first luncheon ham meal I wouldn't have liked it because the luncheon ham here is dry and overdone while the rice was soggy.
The thing that made up for it were the chips which HONG KONG never had until now.
PERHAPS THEY HAD IT BUT I WAS STILL IN UK.
The fries were chunky and delicious so I can't wait to go back for chips again and try a different branch to see how the quality is.

HOPEFULLY ONE DAY HONG KONG WILL SERVE CHICKEN GRAVY LIKE THEY DO IN UK.

Over the moon with the world's first KFC mooncakes

A while ago, I spotted this huge signage that KFC was going to open a new branch at Causeway Bay in July so made a mental note about it.
The new branch is located on the corner and occupies two floors!!

The street level is Sweet Box which is grab and go desserts and drinks, the first floor is the ordering area with self service kiosks and bar seats while the second floor is the main dining area.

Both floors have an order screen that indicates the orders that are ready to pick up.

Attended the KFC Causeway Bay new store and Mooncake official launch.

At the new concept store, there are some exclusive options to give diners a different experience.
Grilled chicken combo:
The chicken is grilled to order and it was really comforting because it visually reminded me of nandos, although the taste is different.
The chicken tastes like the flava roast.

Oven glazed hot wings platter:
The wings platter is great for sharing.
My favourites were the garlic cheese and honey glazed hot wings while most people liked the sweet chili.

Chizza:
Previously this was only available takeaway but they were so popular that it is now offered for dine ins.
It was appetizing with the pineapple chunks.

Baked rice with chicken filet combo:
For carb lovers, this is another option as well as the rice buckets.
All of them were tasty but my favourite had to be the  grilled chicken because it was grilled to perfection.

As well as chicken, they have desserts!!!

For mid Autumns festival, I was over the moon with their new World's ever KFC moonlight bucket which lights up with LED.

Inside this cool moonlight bucket you will find Moonakes!!!

There are two flavours:  Golden Lava custard and Spicy chicken and nuts mooncakes.
The Golden Lava custard is a popular mooncake in Hong Kong so it can't go wrong.

For the Spicy Chicken and nuts mooncake, think of it like chewy chicken biscuits gaaijaibeng with chicken floss and nuts inside just like the five nuts mooncake.

Overall I felt that the chicken mooncakes were quite traditional so it won't be a shock for the tastebuds.

Nordic delights with a Hong Kong twist

I absolutely adore Scandinavian food so I had to check out Norway House.
It is well hidden if you try to find it along Chatham Road South.
When I got there, it was reassuring to see that it was the real deal.
Unfortunately, they have changed the menu and the Viking Burger was sold out.
With the available menu, I tried to choose the snacks that weren't so Hongkonized even though some items were possibly nice like the salted egg yolk salmon.
Sadly people in Hong Kong don't appreciate stuff they don't know hence the items have to be made with ingredients people are familiar with.
I was really hoping to try the fishballs with cheese but again people here don't appreciate real cheese.

Started with the fishballs which were drizzled with Sichuan Sauce.
It definitely enhanced the fishballs but I wish they had some plain ones.
Anyway to summarize these fishballs definitely taste better than HK ones because it contains more fish than flour and you won't find bones or msg.
The texture is much softer.
Next was the boiled egg with smoked salmon and smoked salmon with toast.

Basically, both were smoked salmon except the bottom was different.
I loved their egg mayo on the toast because European mayonnaise is delicious but there was not enough dill on both these snacks.
But then again, the dill was probably toned down to adapt the locals.
As for the boiled egg, it had smoked cod roe paste which is a popular sandwich topping used on Rye bread or eggs.
The smokiness and saltiness tasted delicious with the egg and smoked salmon.
These are simple but delicious Norwegian treats that people can relate to  in Hong Kong.

Last but not least was the evilicious salmon coated in salty egg yolk, very Asian but delicious.
The chunks of salmon was moist and pink in the middle while the coating was crispy coated generously in salted egg yolk.

The best thing was the salmon skin was still attached because it was crispy and delicious.

To summarize, everything tasted good but I hope their menu can be improved with sandwich offerings for lunch because Scandinavian sandwiches are so damn delicious like the prawn and dill sandwich, salmon and egg sandwich etc.

Anyway, it is a good start that there are more Scandinavian joints to join Rye House where they previously did a crossover with the mackish girls who served these scrumptious mackish sandwiches.
