I love visiting these restaurants that have been here for decades.
There is something special about them.

This Shanghai joint has been in Kwuntong for over 40 years!!
Decor untouched, just how it was when they opened with lots of media clippings.
They do have a Facebook and it has a cute cover with cartoon cats.
Anyway, settled here for the lunch and had two mains with a soup and rice.

The Kungpao chicken also had shrimp and ham with a lovely spicy kick.

Next was the drunken chicken in strong wine.
The chicken that we got was to my liking as there was a lot of white meat and there were not any bones.

Finished the hot and sour soup last because it was extremely spicy but loaded with tofu and black fungus.

To end the meal, they serve eight treasure tea which had to be the best I have had as it was slightly sweetened with a floral aromatic taste.

Will definitely be back as the other dishes are worth trying.

Not just mango and durian

I haven't been to MK for ages because all they serve is mango and durian in these yellow coloured square bowls.

All that has changed and they have some different desserts that are worth trying.

I was captivated by the Milk custard with sweet fermented rice which was served in a golden bowl.
It was glamorous but the whole thing looked Korean!
It contains sweet fermented rice which exists in both the Koreans and Chinese cuisine.

It was thick and creamy with a faint alcoholic taste but not as sweet as Japanese rice wine.

Next was the steamed egg with milk which friend had.
She said it was smooth and satisfying.

Steamed fish and meat patties

Went here for dinner as I was hungry and they offered steamed fish which is something I wanted to eat.The decor was aqua blue with a modern touch.
The menu:

Ordered meat patties and steamed fish.
The meat patties were damn good as it was lean and there were not any strange chewy bits in it, perfect with rice and it wasn't too salty.

The steamed fish was delicate and fresh so it was just what I wanted.
Overall, very satisfied so I will come back for fish!
The fish gets sold out quickly so be sure to get there early.

[Review 7713] Zero waste shop @ Edgar

Discovered this shop after visiting Basao tea.
Edgar is a zero waste and bulk grocery shop.
This Raspberry roll which costs HKD20 caught my eye!
It looked similar to FIG Rolls but double the size so I decided to try it.

The outer part of the rolls is crumbly with dried raspberry filling that looks similar to the fig filling.
It was not too sweet but there wasn't much filling.
If you are a fan of fig rolls, this is just as good.

[Review 7712] The best collection at Tsui Wah Cafe @ 翠華冰廳 Tsui Wah Cafe

Tsui Wah Cafe is a new concept that combines the best of the East with the West for Hong Kong style dishes.
It is located in Tsuen Wan with a spacious dining area.
I love the logo which has a cute Chinese dragon and a lion which reminds me of a football team.
At every table, there is a QR code so you can order via mobile.

Moving on to the dishes, I liked the way the menu has incorporated GP6D friendly dishes and plant based dishes for people with different dietary requirements.
Lets begin with the noodles which uses their signature famous fish soup that everyone should be familiar with.
The difference here is that the rice vermicelli they use is a curly one which absorbs and hangs the broth better.

Next is their signature Kagoshima style pork cartilage served in a modern way in a bun!

For people who can eat really spicy food, the spicy corned beef and egg submarine will really shock your palette with its addictive Sichuan numbing and fiery spices!!!!!
Moving on to the vegetarian dishes, they had the beyond burger with scrambled egg with beyond meat and Vegan cheezy cheese.
My new favourite had to be the minced omnipork with fried egg over rice.
For kids, there is a cute kids meal with a gift!
To finish off, there is Hong Kong style milk tea with a twist with milk pudding at the bottom.

King's Bakery at LTA

I am not a fan of King Bakery but they have now popped up at LTA.
LTA used to be classy but business is probably bad these days so they have to offer brands that are affordable.
As well as egg tarts they had Japanese oden, Hong Kong snacks and even Western wraps because this is a concept store.
I was contemplating on whether to get the tea or wrap but in the end I got the wrap as the other branches don't have it.
There were three wraps to choose from: Thai pork neck, Lemongrass chicken and Mushroom and Basil.
Got the mushroom and basil because I didn't fancy the other two.
According to the label, the wrap is made by [LIGHE FOOD] or are they trying to label it as [LIGHT FOOD], who knows.
As for the tastes, the wrap was good but the filling was terrible.
It was sweet coleslaw with Chinese shitaake mushrooms and basil, the combination of it all just tasted horrible.

You can never go wrong with PRET!
This time got the almond butter and it was thick and creamilicious.
It was topped with pomegranite seeds, pumpkin seeds and dried blueberries.
Everything was delicious and especially the almond butter as not many places have this option.
