Tasty local icecreams

Chestnut kings dried food in TAI PO is a famous local store that sells their own dried fruit, nut and preserved snacks.
Now there is an icecream range in those flavours.

There were so many flavours so it was difficult to choose so I decided to try an unusual flavour like citrus peel (chan pei).
I was really impressed by the generous amount of dried fruit peel in it which made it very flavourful.

The fruit peel flavour was unexpectedly good as it was appetizing in dairy form.
Definitely going to try the pistachio as I would imagine it containing lots of pistachios!
As well as pistachio, there are other captivating flavours like chestnut, taro and sweet potato which I hope to try as well.

Great Taiwanese dessert place in TST

I have been craving for some good Taiwanese desserts lately and this is definitely the place for it.

On the menu, there are so many desserts to choose from.
There were taro balls, pudding and sweet mash!

As it was a hot day, chose the brown sugar slush where you can choose five different toppings.
For the toppings, chose taro balls, herbal jelly, taro mash, sweet potato mash and brown sugar jelly.

The jelly was glistening and everything looked good.

Taro mash and sweet potato mash.

Although the slush was coarse, it was all good as it melted nicely in the mouth.
The sweet mash was not too sweet so everything was in harmony.
There was a separate shot of syrup if you wanted it sweeter but I didn't need it.
As for the other dessert, had the signature which was similar but without the ice served with red beans and pearls.

The reason why I like this dessert joint is because of the herbal jelly.
It is made in house so it tastes so much better and the mash is natrual without any colourings.

Spotted this joint while dining at Ones Cafe opposite.
Went here one afternoon to try it out.

The menu had beef noodles, rice etc.

Taiwanese beef noodles are a must so got a soup and soupless one with two sides.
The beef noodle soup came in a rich brown caramel soup topped with tendons, intestines, beef and carrots.

The side was much the same in a smaller bowl laid of top of radish.
 0 讚好

The slobbering noodles (quoted from the menu) was a little different than anticipated as there was sesame dressing which is heavy and sweet.
 0 讚好

After tossing it together it was fragrant and delicious.
The noodles were firm with a chew.
The tendon side dish was soft and gelatinous so I got my beef and tendons satisfied.

For drinks had the Taiwanese tea which was just the usual. 0 讚好

Overall, another option in the area.

I love the bakery at Ryoyu!
This time I was attracted by the Japanese ball which is basically a donut.
The jam was inside out whereas Western donuts the jam is in the middle.
In a way, it makes the donut more appealing yet troublesome when you buy it as the jam sticks to the bag.
The only complaint was that the donut was super oily but the strawberry jam was reasonable.
The yoghurt drinks just tasted like yakult and the apple one was weird.
Also spotted some weird rolls which looked like burnt bubble wrap!

I was captivated by the NEON lights so went in.

Almost every area of the place was well decorated.

There were lots of illustration of roses which made me think of Gun and Roses but it turns out that it is a tattoo parlour inspired joint.
The food at play is Western and Asian fusion.
As you can imagine, the choices were difficult, so ended up ordering beef tartare, steak, chicken and octopus.
Started with the beef tartare which is made with American tenderloin, capers, shiso leaf and waterchestnuts.
It was really nice but I found it a bit too spicy as the seasoning that was sprinkled on top was very fiery.

Next was the chicken.
It was grilled chicken with Shaoxing wine and Chinese herbs in a beef jus reduction.
This would satisfy any roast chicken craving with an alcoholic twist and a beefy gravy.

The grilled tenderloin was the star of the show for me.
It was soft and supple.
Each piece was divine!

Also had the signature grilled octopus which was dressed with my favourite chimichurri sauce.
Beneath the octopus were beans.
Overall nice but I found the chimichurri sauce a bit too bitter as opposed to tangy.

For drinks, had a mocktail surprise which was pineapple and lychee.
Both were my favourite ingredients especially the lychee so I loved it and the foamy cap on top.

Will definitey come here with friends.

It turned out to be pineapple and lemon tarts according to the label.

They were dusted with coconut on the edges which made it look worthy so decided to get one.

Unfortunately, they were not tarts at all but were weird pastries filled with bright yellow cake in the middle topped with lemon glaze and a piece of pinepple.
Definitely not tasty!
Yuck, yuck, yuck!

Previously this spot used to be MATHY which whipped up decent and delicious Chinese dishes.Unfortunately it closed and it got replaced by some pub which also closed.
Now it is Tak Cheung which seems to have been quite successful even though their dishes don't appeal to me when I walk past.

Walked past one day and saw Lemon Chicken which is something I would try so went in.
 0 讚好

When it came, the sauce had curdled like lemon curd looking like failed custard.
 0 讚好

In terms of taste, I loved the sauce as it was very acidic but I wouldn't describe it as lemon though.
It was a mix of orange and lemon.
 0 讚好

The chicken was hard and dry but then then I didn't have any expectations because meat in Hong Kong is not edible.
