[Review 69] Creative @ La Creation & Châteraisé

Date reviewed on openrice: 18/05/2007

The bakery is creative as the shop name.

The bakery has a lot of variety, and each pastry/cake has its own special name.

I was attracted to the cheese fondue, because this is some sort of food u wud have to go to the restaurant.

Just like traditional fondue with bits of bread and cheese, it is presented in a cake tray with bits of bread at the base, and creamy cheese on top, exactly like eating fondue. So cute!

[Review 68] Blended sharp plastic spiked smoothie @ Hemingway's By The Bay

Date reviewed on openrice: 12/05/2007

Decided to sit in this bar, cos of the nice scenery and wide choice of drinks.

Anyway ordered an oreo smoothie and a Caribbean banana.

When my Caribbean banana smoothie came, i took a sip, and found hard bits in it, so i tried to break it down, and they didn't seem to break down, so i had to take it out of my mouth to investigate.
To my horror they were bits of grounded clear plastic, and many smaller bits in my mouth.
If i swallowed it quickly, i think it would have been disastrous, most probably piercing my throat or stomach.
So we called the waiter over and told them what we found. Then a few minutes later, the Indian manager came over to apologize, and said their blender had broke causing plastic to go into the drink. He offered me a another one.
Although their drinks were disastrous, they offered ppl sitting outside mosquito repellent spray, as alot of ppl were getting bitten.
Then after a while it was getting near dinner time, they kept asking us if we wanted more drinks, certainly not after that experience. I still feel nausea now and i dont want to drink stuff made by a blender again, thanks to Hemingways.
Anyway one of the female waitress tried to make us paid the bill and leave, so they could get more business by saying our table was reserved for someone.

So we left.

[Review 67] Massive Scallop Sushi @ 御家迴轉壽司 Oie Sushi

Date reviewed on openrice: 30/04/2007

Nothing special about their food, only one interesting thing eaten was the extra large scallop sashimi.
Very very big!
Anyway the other thing worth mentioning about was sushi with 5 choices of salt: lemon salt, curry salt, plum salt, grapefruit salt and peach salt.
You can only choose one, but its ok.
The other thing that i tried was also delicious, the fried crab covered in salty egg yolk, it was good, except the crab was literally chopped crab in its shell. So had difficulty eating it.
Apart from that, their organisation was a bit messed up, they kept serving dishes that we didnt order.

[Review 66] Tender Ribs @ 多利蘿瑪排骨之家 Tony Roma's

Date reviewed on openrice: 29/04/2007

As said by other openrice users, the meat in the rib comes off the bone very easily.
So when i tried it, indeed the meat came of easily, and it so tender and juicy, not dry at all.
Other food eaten, were potato skins, the cheddar cheese was gorgeous and the texture was just melted, so very soft and stringy, and there were bits of crunchy bacon and spring onion.
The tender chicken loin was also good too, especially the honey lemon sauce, which wasn't too sweet. The one we ordered got over fried, and we were offered a fresh portion too, this is what we call good service.

[Review 65] Better hygiene needed @ 陳福榮餅家 Chan Fuk Wing Bakery

Date reviewed on openrice 29/04/2007

Although the cakes and bakery here tastes excellent, I think its hygiene should be improved.
Last time I was buying some cakes, to my horror I saw a man in the kitchen with a cigarette in his hand while trying to cut a loaf of bread.
I really wanted to film that and upload on Youtube.
Good bakery, but please keep a good hygiene!!!!!

[Review 62] Yummy @ Our Restaurant

Date reviewed on openrice: 22/04/2007

Had a late dinner...around 11 ish.
Ordered chips with aubergine and green peppers.
More delicious than imagined, there was yogurt mixed with it, so nice and sour.
Cant describe it, but tastes good.
Finally ate the rice pudding, very creamy, but got sweeter as i ate more.
Also provided with tea which was constantly refilled.

[Review 61] Discontinued product pictures @ Grove Sandwiches

Date reviewed on openrice: 20/04/2007

Stopped by in central, I was attracted to this place because of the delicious pics on their window.
However they have stopped doing those yoghurt salads and other stuff.
So being disappointed, I ordered a cheese and ham toast. Well ok i suppose.

[Review 60] A bit confusing @ Soland

Date reviewed on openrice 30/1/2007

Well i got there at 2.30 to avoid the lunchtime rush, luckily they still had some set lunches left. It was a bit confusing, because i didn't realise they only had one choice for lunch, which you could choose to have either soup or drink and decide whether to have dessert of not.

Since i didn't know what the waitress was waffling on about, I just said yes, since i came all the way to try it out.

First came the seaweed and green pea soup, which was very nice with rich seaweed and bean flavour.

Next came the main course, which is exactly the same as the pictures submitted by openrice members.
It tasted really nice, with chickpeas, okra (lady fingers), herbs, and other crunchy vegetables. Not really filling, on my next visit i shall ask for extra rice, cos i didn't know u could.

After the salad came the banana cake, tasted a bit too sweet for me and the banana tasted bitter, so i think that the cake must have been a few days old, since fresh bananas are not dark and oxidised.

I was also given lemon water, which also tasted very bitter too, i think lemon is a bit off, because the lemon peel is rather thin, so it must have been in the fridge for days.

Overall everything was good, next time I will just have the soup and main course.

[Review 59] ok i suppose!!! 甘潮潮式甜品焗飯專門店 (尖沙咀)

Date reviewed on openrice 28/01/2007

Most of the a la carte stuff was sold out,so ordered fruit tea and spinach noodles in XO sauce with prawn.
The portion of the noodles was quite small, but had about 7 big prawns so that was quite OK, however a bit expensive for 68 dollars with an extra 10% on top.
The fruit tea was disappointing though, because it tasted more like warm orange juice, and the tea wasn't clear.

[Review 58] Nice name and nice food.... @ Jasmine 八月花 (九龍塘)

Date reviewed on openrice: 28/01/2007

Top quality Chinese cuisine........

Well it was the two of us so we couldn't order much food.

Anyway ordered:
Prawn and vegetable soup
Prawn and pink soba
Crispy roast suckling pig
Lobster in cheese and noodles
Mini dumplings dessert

Prawn and vegetable soup.. very nice, with grounded vegetables which made the soup a green colour.

Prawn and pink soba
Very very delicious, more like thai, because it was prawn on a bed of pink soba on top of a piece of lettuce served with chilli sauce. Bite sized.

Crispy roast pig..
Didn't really like it, cos it was a bit oily

Lobster in cheese
Very good, alot of cheese sauce, and the noodles were cooked in lobster broth.

Mini dumplings (dessert):
These are EXCELLENT...there are five different dumplings: green tea, pumpkin, black sesame, original, taro.
They are so CUTE, so tiny!! There are 6 condiments to play about with and dip these little cute dumplings in!!
Coconut, chocolate, cornflakes, sesame, sugar, and one more which i cant remember.

Overall very good restaurant, very spacious and grand.

[Review 57] Instant noodles in Cheese Sauce @ 新記芝士麵 Sun Kee

Date reviewed on openrice: 28/01/2007

Very unique to serve instant noodles in cheese sauce, although the stuff that comes with it are rather ordinary such as the red sausages, fried eggs etc.

The vermicelli in tomato sauce is also good, because the vermicelli are the fine ones, so it gets more flavoured by the sauce.

Yummy.......

[Review 56] Angel hair with goose liver @ 甘潮潮式甜品焗飯專門店

Date reviewed on openrice: 28/01/2007

Ordered the chef's special which was the angel hair with goose liver.
The presentation was quite attractive, sprinkled with herbs, and a slice of fried goose liver on top of the pasta, with three asparagus coated in batter.
For me it was a bit too creamy, but quite expensive for 95 dollars, but their noodles are priced like that.

[Review 55] A wide Variety of dumplings @ 一口餃 The Dumplings House

Date reviewed on openrice: 08/01/2007

Finally this little restaurant is listed.
A small restaurant, that only seats around 4 tables of 4 ppl.

This is a good place to go for yummy dumplings.
The dumplings are either pan fried or served in soup.

Instead of the traditional boring dumplings, there are a variety of flavours:

1) chicken and sweet corn
2) pork satay
3) vegetarian
4) spring ( glass noodles, dried shrimp, pork)
5) chives and pork
6) pak choi and pork

I have tried all these flavours except 5 and 6. They taste great pan fried or served in soup.
For 1 and 4 i recommend served in soup, because the flavour isn't that strong, so it can be tasted in the soup, however if panfried, the pan fried taste would be more prominent.

However for the pork satay, pan fried is the best, because the satay flavour comes out.

4 is also one of my favourites whether fried or in soup, because the dried shrimps go very well with the glass noodles.

Apart from dumplings, the sesame sauce with noodles is also great. The sauce is very special and hot, although too hot hot for me....it tastes lovely.

Date reviewed on openrice: 09/01/2007

佳hmmmmm the pizza menu here is 99% the same as the donerhouse in shamshuipo dragon centre.....
i wonder if this is a chainstore or they r copying them.....
well anyway the food here is quite ok, western style with soup etc, but i found a hair in it.
The beef fried rice was ok, the pizza was ok...and the spring chicken was ok too...
the staff are a bit too warm for me....

[Review 53] YUCK, Lobster Cheese with ginger @ 鳴苑海鮮酒家 Ming Yuen Seafood Restaurant

Date reviewed on openrice 07/01/2007

Ahhhhhhhh i am so disappointed, i deliberately came to Sai Kung to order the lobster and e-noodles with cheese sauce.
That was terrible, it had ginger in it, ginger and cheese do not make a good combination.
I can probably understand, their logic of putting in ginger is to take away the fishy taste......but its makes it even worse...
Its so bad, that i can probably get the same dish tasting better in a non seafood restaurant such as Red star or any Chinese style restaurant serving that dish... no need to come all the way to Sai Kung!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Review 52] Feels like chinatown @ TAI極の素 (銅鑼灣)

Date reviewed on openrice: 07/01/2007

Well every time i come here...i feel like i am back in the UK china town restaurants.

Anyway commenting on the food, i like to eat the buffet in the late afternoon, since it costs around 35 dollars.

I mainly like peppered rice, its fragrant with tones of grounded black pepper in it. The purple cabbage salad is also good. A lot of stuff are good, such as the curry, chili tofu, tofu in olive oil etc.

My favourite is the roast potatoes, because they are fried/roasted, and sprinkled with herbs and spices.

There are lots of sauces too in the condiments area, if you find the dishes a bit bland, and soup is there as well, and sweet soup.
