Kamameshi on the Kowloon Side

Previously tried Kamameshi in Causeway Bay which was quite good so decided to try Guts Soul Kamameshi in Kowloon Bay.
The menu and style is slightly different.
On the way to my table, I spotted the eel looking good so I was tempted to order it.
There is so much to choose from as well as unagi (eel) options such as thick cut, gold or silver.
I ended up getting the silver eel because it has less sauce so that the taste of the eel is more prominent which is why the colour isn't so dark.
To my surprise, I really liked it because you could taste the eel and is wasn't bony.
The rice beneath was hot and fluffy, full of aroma from the pot.
Also had the Okinawan bitter melon dumplings because I haven't had them for a while.
They are basically the usual dumplings loaded with bittermelon slices and pork have a bitter taste as well as a crunch.

The dessert were just average so I would just recommend ordering the Kamameshi!

CNY is coming and there are so many Festive treats in the market.Traditional turnip pudding is getting boring so it is time for more modern ingredients and vegetarian puddings.
This year Kee Wah has a vegetarian pudding with cordeceps and cashew nuts which makes it nutritious and healthy.
I loved the soft cashews in it and the crunchy cordeceps.

As well as turnip cake, they have other sweet treats in cute cartoon theme tins.

I was lured in by the girly decor and discovered they had froyo and a DIY counter for toppings.

There were four flavours and Hazelnut was a flavour that I liked so I decided to try it.
It costs HKD18 per 100g and their scales are quite sensitive because weighed it before adding some sauce and weighed it after and it was quite different.
I only put a drop of caramel sauce because I was just curious, the hazelnut froyo was quite nice with a hazelnut flavour but it wasn't nutty.
The mochi bits were quite chewy though.

After the froyo I was a bit thirsty so got the Jasmine tea to finish which was nice and aromatic.

[Review 7138] Dishes to suit all all generations @ 鳳城1954 Fung Shing 1954

Fung Shing is a reputable Shunde Restaurant that has been in Hong Kong for years.
To be honest, I wouldn't have known about this restaurant if someone didn't take me there a few years ago.
All I remember from my last visit was scrambled milk and sago pudding.

After seeing recent reviews, found out that there is a new branch in Kowloon Bay serving cute dimsums as well as the traditional stuff so went there one weekday evening when there would be less people.

The restaurant is spacious and wheelchair friendly.

The order sheet is clear and concise with pictures, English and Chinese!
Clearly we had to order the signatures such as fried milk and traditional scrambled milk.
Both reminded me of the meal I previously at Fung Shing.
Personally I liked the fried version as it was delicate milk curd coated in a crispy coating while the scrambled version was more like scrambled egg but with a fragrant milky taste.

The Crispy golden chicken is another popular signature here with evenly crispy golden skin and tender chicken beneath it.

Next were The King's green beans coated in salted egg yolk which was delicious and I could eat these all day.
I just loved the juicy beans in the middle contrasted by the fried salted egg yolk coating.

Moving on to the modern side of the Fung Shing dishes we had potato salad which was like Japanese potato salad.

Another modern presentation of buttered chicken wings and seemingly fries were actually Indonesian prawn crackers looking like fries.

It seemed like the modern approach had a mix of different international elements such as the pineapple fried served in a pineapple was Thai style with Vietnamese sausages in it.

The sweet and sour pork was different but nice because they used strips of pork neck meat to get those uniformly shaped pieces and it was fun dipping it in the sauce.

The Angus beef cubes and mushroom were a good pairing hence simply good with rice.

For desserts, I had the traditional sago pudding with lotus paste and cute dimsum buns which I classify as dessert because the bun pastry is sweet.

The sago pudding was really good that day as it was not that sweet while others said it was a bit too bland.
Overall, there is something for everyone on the menu  so I don't mind coming back.

Curry ramen

Normally I go to Coco for my curry fix where you can choose almost any toppings with rice but this time I spotted curry ramen so decided to give it a go.
I have not seen this offered at the other Coco branches nor advertised on their website.

The curry broth was thick and viscous and it tastes really different to their usual curry base which is basically a sauce.
It isn't spicy but still has that curry flavour which makes it a bowl of comforting ramen on a cold day.

[Review 7113] Real Juices but why the sweetener @ 鍾美鮮果汁咖啡 Johnny Fruit Juice & Coffee

There are two branches of Johnny's one in Kowloon Bay and one in Kwun Tong.
I was quite impressed that they had so many beverages on the menu which take up a third of the menu choices.
I liked the vegetable juice choices as they had celery, cucumber, tomato etc.

Ordered a hot chocolate and cucumber juice to start with.
The hot chocolate was a bit weak but then discovered the rest of the chocolate mix was at the bottom.
The cucumber juice was good as it was freshly blended cucumber which impressed me to order the tomato juice.
To my horror, the tomato juice was sweetened which really pissed me off.

I ordered tomato juice because I love the way natrual tomato taste ie umami with a bit of savoury and tartness.
If you buy canned/carton tomato juice from the supermarket, it won't have sugar in it.
The sweetener was just weird and ruined the purpose of drinking vegetable juice to be healthy.
Although my day was ruined, I do want to come back and try the strawberry milkshake to see if they use real strawberries and order another TJ without sugar.

A nice bowl of Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles
2019-01-01  741 瀏覽
As well as Nooodies, there is another noodle joint in Sai Ying Pun called NOODIES that opened in 2015.
I bet if NOODIES didn't exist, Nooodies would probably have used that name and not needed that extra "o" to be different!

Anyway, both joint offer a choice so that you can try different noodles.
Here they have the tasting choice for $108 which lets you try three different noodles in small portions but unfortunately I came here in the afternoon when it isn't served.

Ordered the Dandan noodles!

I can't quite understand why they needed to camouflage the broth and bowl together.
A different coloured bowl might have made it look much nicer.
Apart from presentation, it was damn delicious and I wish there was a vegan option with omnipork as I don't really eat pork in HK as it is usually not fit for consumption.

The noodles for damn good because the broth was so tasty, it was a right balance of Sichuan spices as well as the nutty broth without being sweet.
Second visit, it was bland and deteroriated.

Spotted some new stuff at PB so tried them as they both had my favourite Cinnamon.
The Cinnamon Swirl was totally soft and the Cinnamon filling was interesting as the texture was like moist jam.
The taste was ok and not too sweet but the couldn't really taste any cinnamon though.
The Almond, Cinnamon apple cake was too sweet and it only had one piece of apple in the middle!!!!
The texture was moist and oily.
Also got a drink from the fridge which I won't bother to comment as it is not a PB product.
