Doctor Bean's is famous in Kwun Tong and now they have a second branch.
The factory converted restaurant is spacious and the decor is inspired by Taiwan.
In terms of food, I would say it is Taiwanese inspired as well as the noodles were pretty sweet.
The Taiwanese Sun Chuk Rice Vermicelli wasn't as thin as the ones I have come across before.
The Sichuan noodles fared slightly better and you could see it was clearly a plain broth made Sichuan by adding Sichuan paste to it which tasted like essence oil.

For appetizers, tried the pork trotters, gluten and cucumbers that were great for sharing.
The soup was nice and peppery.

For drinks, the soy bean green tea was interesting so ordered that and a normal green tea.
Might return to try the other branch.

Spicy chicken!!

My first experience with Karayama at Wongtaisin wasn't good but I loved the  chicken here.Firstly there was no queue and the chicken turned out delicious.

I was skeptical as it was all coming from one kitchen so I was expecting a chef to be multitasking and cooking dishes for different joints.

I had the seasonal special which was the Spicy chicken.
When it came, it looked very spicy but it wasn't a bit spicy.
The seeds were hard and bitter so I reckon they were capsicum seeds.

Apart from the spiciness, the chicken was spot on especially the frying oil which was fresh.
The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender in the middle.

Visiting apm because of the dandan noodles

Relax Station used to be at the TKO food court which closed down recently.
Now they are at apm on the 2nd floor.
The menu is roughly the same.

The layout is slightly better than TKO in the sense that there is a central kitchen where all the food is served but in TKO each joint is separated and they have their own kitchen.

Decided to order the dandan noodles and the pork chop.
The pork chop came with chicken wings and egg.

The pork chop was well marinated as it was fully flavoured all the way through.
The wings and egg were there as a filler.
Next was the dandan noodles, it was rather sweet with a strong peanut taste.

Will try the Taiwanese beef noodles next time.

Went here for more delicious soups.
Last time had the silkie chicken and crocodile so this time had the dongwai with red dates and beef.
It was only HKD35 while the other soups are HKD40.
The taste was a bit disappointing this time as I could't really taste any herbs.

As well as soups, this joint specializes in Tortoise Jelly and Herbal Teas.
I love soups so went here for it and there are so many types of soup for different health benefits.
Got the silkie chicken soup because  which had lots of chicken in it as well as herbs.
The taste was strong and not watered down which is makes it worth it and the chicken is still tender enough to eat.
Will try other soups next time.

After having a crappy lunch nearby went here for some food.
Had the tea set which only cost $38 where you get noodles and a mock shark fin soup.
The noodles were a bit cold and had too much vegetables in it I was hungry for carbs that day.
The thing that saved the day was the tea which was brewed with tea leaves and not tea bags!

Kwuntong was once an industrial town but now it is a busy place for everything. The restaurant scene is thriving and you will find game rooms and lots of places for shopping.
Camel Paint building is just one of those buildings were you will find restaurants and shops on every floor of this industrial building.
As I was checking some outlets nearby I ended here for dinner.

I was attracted by the retro windows by the kitchen and the racks of test tube condiments on the table.
This restaurant specializes in Taiwanese fare.

For starters, began with the spicy ducks blood and sliced pork with cucumbers.

The ducks blood didn't look spicy but boy they were spicy.
Judging by the spiciness levels of the dish, I was expecting the spicy beef noodles to be of that level.
When I got the spicy beef noodles, the broth was so spicy just like the Sichuan hotpot broths so if you can't have it that spicy then I suggest not to order it.

We also had this other bowl of beef noodles which was more palatable as they broth is made with Asian pears and other fruits which is popular with kids.
The star of the show turned out to be the Taiwanese onion chicken.
There was so much onions and crispy shallots in it which was so tasty with rice that I had two bowls of rice.
The chicken beneath it was tender as well.

This dish is definitely recommended as the onions are imported from Taiwan which make it taste so different.
Finished with the passionfruit tea which was sweet and comforting.

There are two branches of Ideal Dim Sum in Kwun Tong.
Being lazy I went to this branch as it was closer to the MTR.
Sadly all the things I wanted to try were not on the menu and at that point I really should have walked out instead of staying.
Tried the pink rice rolls which are made of red rice.
They were soft and sticky but that was it and the portion was big too.

Had the fried puffs with red beans and banana.

They were too crunchy for my liking and there was not much banana inside.

I doubt I will be in the area but if I am near the other branch I might go in and try the cheese and bacon bun.

Lunch at Kwun Tong

I was captivated here by their lunch menus posted on Insta but sadly the menu was different on my visit. They had stuff like avocado risotto, Taro risotto, orecchiette and ravioli before.
Anyway, here was the menu on my visit.
Luckily they had the Risotto with XO Sauce which turned out quite tasty but a tad salty.
Also had the ribs which were plated nicely and they were soft and juicy.
All lunches are served with soup or salad, tea and dessert.
Will keep checking their online menu to see when  what dishes will lure me again but it is all about fate and the right timing.

There hasn't been much delicious food on offer recently so decided to come here for the rice rolls in Kwun Tong which are Chiuchow style made by grinding flour through the stone miller.I have tried this previously at Kai Yip Estate called 食好啲 which serves the same thing.
It turns out the lady at the counter looks like the one from 食好啲 from the review on 22/2/2018.

Anyway, didn't know that until now and to be honest her attitude turned my excitement into disappointment.

Went to Kwuntong which is a place that I'd rather not go because there are too many people which are rough and rude.
Found the shop and when I went towards it, the lady gave me this look which you could sense, please don't come here but to be honest I don't give a shat and I have the right as a paying customer to try it or not.

When I collected the food, she demanded to see my receipt to double check if I was eating there or taking it away as it is $1 cheaper.
After I showed her the receipt she frowned again, but for ffs  for $2 why would I want to lie to you plus I don't even work or live in this crap part of town so I wouldn't be taking the food anywhere but eating it there .
Food tastes the best when you eat it straight away but you have to find a spot to stand there and eat as space is just limited with zombies walking into you where ever you stand.

FengMeng basically serves the same rolls as 食好啲  but they use black rice, red rice and the original which gives it a colourful appearance.

Ordered the red rice and black rice with the minimalist toppings as I just wanted to see how it tasted.

Personally I liked the black rice more because it only had sweetcorn and soy sauce allowing me to taste the flavour and texture of the rolls.
Although I don't like the sweetcorn in Hong Kong but it tasted quite good with the ricerolls.
Will probably have this again if I am in the area again.

The salted Egg trend is everywhere and now KFC has it too with Salted egg yolk sauce on softserve and salted egg yolk chicken wings.
I tried this a few weeks ago at the Kwun Tong branch because it is only served at designated branches.
I was glad there was a self service kiosk so I didn't have to queue but stupidly it wasn't on the menu so I had to waste time queueing.

The softserve costs $16 but didn't get much sauce.

The egg yolk sauce was thick and very starchy so I loved it.
It tasted like the custard bun filling you get in Chinese steamed buns so it was really nice because some custard buns have salted egg yolk filling which tastes just the same with sweet and savoury flavours going on at the same time,
Unfortunately, the softserve was too sweet and overpowered the salted egg yolk sauce.
It would be good if they gave you more sauce or made the softserve not so sweet.
