[Review 1505] Cookies and cream cheesecake @ McCafe

The Cookies and cream cheesecake immediately stood out from the cake selection.

It is different from the usual cheesecakes because half of the base is cake and the above is cookies and cream cheesecake filling.
Usually there is more proportion of the cheesecake filling and the bottom is just a biscuit base tart.

I rarely eat cheesecakes because I find them quite heavy and I do not like the biscuit base.

Cookies and cream cheesecake
The cake looked visually nice, there was a distinct dark brown cake base in contrast to the light yellow cheesecake filling on top embedded with oreo cookies and topped with big white chocolate drops and oreo pieces.
The cheesecake filling at the top was amazingly light, it was similar to thick mousse and the oreo cookie pieces in it were nice and soft as well.
It was a good match with the chocolate cake base at the bottom which was not too sweet, but the cake base was a little too dry and hard.
Although there was oreo pieces in it, there was still a lemon taste in the cheesecake filling!

[Review 1504] McCafe's asiaroma of tea -series - Himalayan Tea @ McCafe

The new asiaroma teas were quite attractive especially the poster.

It is quite good that there are new teas on the menu for non coffee drinkers.

The two new drinks in this series are Himalayan Tea and Soy Green tea which is available hot or cold.
The Himalayan tea is Himalayan tea with fresh milk topped with whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon and the Soy green tea is sweet green tea with soy milk with whipped cream and green tea powder on top.

Anyway wanted to try both, but tried the Himalayan tea first because I have never heard of it.

I was not sure what it was going to taste like, but any taste that is not Hong Kong style tea is good for me!

Himalayan tea - Cold
When I got the drink I was quite surprised with the colour, it was vivid peach.

The taste was nothing like tea or Hong Kong style milk tea and there was no tea taste.
However it was very milky.
It reminded me of the milkshakes at school which consists of plain milk with added syrups.
(If your a Brit or attended secondary school there your'll know what I mean, but the syrups at different schools may differ)
The cinnamon which was at the top could not be tasted.
Although there was no tea taste, I really liked it because it was exactly the same as the milkshakes at school.
The taste is hard to explain, but it tastes like milk with a faint bitter butterscotch taste.McCafe's asiaroma of tea -series - Himalayan Tea

[Review 1384] McD's German chicken sausage burger trial tester @ 麥當勞 McDonald's

Thanks to mjqueen7e's review I found out about this new burger, it is only available in a few restaurants in Hong Kong.
It is not officially on McD's website, but thanks to mjqueen7e for letting me know the English addresses of the available restaurants.

Just as she said, not all McD's serve this burger, and when I went to this particular branch, it really did have this burger.

As well as this burger, I was also able to order the Hazelnut Latte which is a beverage from McCafe, it was also served in a McCafe's plastic cup.

Luckily I knew which restaurant had this burger because I heard one of the customers behind asking which restaurants served this burger and that staff was reluctant to list out all the shops.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Germany's version of the sausage burger
Interestingly the German chicken sausage burger is not served in Germany, but the closest one they have is the Nuremburger which actually has real sausages in the burger and not sausage patty.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
German chicken sausage burger

The elements in this burger are:
Emmental cheese,
saukeraut,
dill mustard,
chicken sausage,
slab lemon chicken patty.

I love emmental cheese because it has a cheesier taste than McD's regular processed cheese, and I like all the tangy elements in it such as saukeraut and the chicken marinated with lemon.
Best of all, it is not beef or pork and it is a nice filling burger for someone with a large appetite because it has a chicken patty sausage, a nice change from pork sausage and a piece of chicken.

Although the burger box said it contains a lemon chicken patty, I found it to be a piece of grilled chicken thigh with skin.
The piece of chicken was tender and juicy and the whole burger was really filling and tantalizing especially with the lemon and saukeraut.
It would be great if they put more dill mustard as this was the only taste that wasnt present.
All the rest were distinct such as the chicken, lemon, saukeraut and chicken sausage patty.
But my far, this is my favourite burger served in Hong Kong's McD, but for other McD's in other countries there are other yummy burgers especially in India.
Anyway I wish this could be permanently on the menu.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hazelnut latte:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As well as trying the burger, I got the Hazelnut latte which is a trial drink from McCafe's by paying $4 extra.
Again, it was a nice drink, the coffee taste was not strong so that was why I liked it and it had a strong hint of Hazelnut syrup (most probably monins syrup!)
Anyway asked for less ice, but they still fill 80% of the cup with it!

[Review 1367] 2011 gingerbread man series @ McCafe

Went a few times to try the Gingerbread man cake but it was always sold out.
Finally they had it today, so ordered that and the hot Mint Mocha.

I don’t really like coffee, but I liked the Latte art and the frothy milk on top.
The frothy milk tasted the best and it was slightly minty.

As for the cake, it was the same as other cakes McCafe served before with the same format, crunchy biscuit base layers of spongecake and mousse cream.

Gingerbread man cake
The white mousse cream on top was dusted with powder resembling a gingerbread man.
I had almost forgotten it was a ginger cake until the heat of the ginger came through.
If the biscuit base were crushed gingerbread cookie, it would have matched it more.
I would preferred the ginger taste to be stronger.

[Review 1359] Cinnamon melts are finally in Hong Kong @ McCafe

I have always wanted to try the Cinnamon melts after seeing them available in the US.

They are basically pieces of baked dough with cinnamon and cream cheese on top.
Before it is heated up, you can see the solid white icing on top.
However I forgot to take a picture of it when it was in the glass cabinet.

After it is heated, the sauce on top is liquid, but slightly like translucent melted butter because it contains cream cheese and there is thick cinnamon powder mixed in the sauce.

It was really nice, however if you do not like it that sweet, you can remove some of the sauce.

The cream cheese sauce was slightly gritty with crystallised sugar particles in it.
I can’t remember the name of that shop in the UK, but it tasted exactly the same, however that shop solely sold that snack but the name of the snack was nothing similar to Cinnamon melts, thats why I cant remember the name.

[Review 1190] Mint mocha frappuccino @ McCafe 麥當勞 McDonald's

When I came, they must have been doing some cleaning because I could smell milk that had gone off, it was rather sickening.
Anyway ordered the mint mocha frappuccino.
I was looking forward to it, but then saw that it was made with MONIN's syrup, it took the magic away.
It seems the whole world is using this to make drinks such Burger King, Kami Teapresso and now McD's.
The taste of coffee in the drink was quite strong, the colour was dark brown, the frappuccinos I have had in the past were not so strong.
The mint taste was quite faint too.

[Review 1004] Apple muffin @ McCafe

The apple muffin had a sweet smell unlike other muffins, you could actually smell the cinnamon and apple.

It was quite a large muffin, the top of the muffin was rather dry, but the taste was packed with sweetness and cinnamon.
I thought there would be pieces of apple embedded within the muffin but there were none.
I was then surprised to find apple filling in the middle of the muffin, however it was too sweet.
If the muffin weren’t so dry, then it would have been good all the way through.

[Review 517] Lovely orange mousse cake @ McCafe

There are always good cakes at McCafe, the orange mousse with chocolate is a good match, the citrusness of the orange complements the cocoa sponge.

Also the mousse is slightly heavier than normal mousse mimicking the cheesecake texture. Whether the mousse is light or heavy in texture, it would still taste good.

The appearance of the cake is vibrant with good contrasting colours, dark brown sponge and bright orange mousse.

Went to try their autumn falls selection, so tried the hazelnut cake and a hazelnut lamington.

Hazelnut lamington: lacked hazelnut taste, especially the coating, it tasted more like coffee, the paste in the middle was rather thick, and could only taste a faint hint of hazelnut.

Hazelnut cake: overly too sweet, hard sweet biscuit base, and biscuit nuggets at the top.
Also lacked hazelnut taste, and because the rest of the components were overly sweet, covering the taste of hazelnut.

Good old McDonald's!!

Although their price range is not that expensive, since its a big chain, all their food are rigorously tasted tested to cater for most people to like.

I got my lovely black forest cake, which always tastes consistently good with appropriate amounts of cherry in the cream. The grated chocolate is not too much or less.

To finish it off, I got the Mocchochino with a frothy foaming top.
