[Review 4499] Juicy cheese bun? @ Antoshimo Cafe & Bakery

Discovered this place on the way to the curry shop next door but ended up here because of the Juicy cheese bun!!
A pretty weird name because there's no such thing as juicy cheese, if there was it probably means the cheese has gone bad and watery.
I think they mean molten cheese.

Potential copyright problems with the superman logo?

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Juicy cheese bun:

The bun was really nice and oil free as claimed but the cheese was a bit disappointing because the taste was not strong enough and there was not much cheese inside.
It didn't ooze out like shown in the picture.

Consistently good Okinawan donuts
2015-02-16  1505 瀏覽
[DINED HERE AGES AGO IN JUNE 2014 BUT IF I KNEW THERE WAS GOING TO BE ONE AT DIAMOND HILL I WOULDN'T HAVE COME HERE!! But saying that, the food was better at this branch]

This place is out of nowhere but clearly I came here for their Okinawan donuts.

Came here twice because both times the donuts were fried perfectly and not soaked in oil.

After trying the savoury and sweet, the savoury was definitely a winner.

The sets were not that good because there was something in every set that I did not like.
Apart from the food, I didn't like the decor because it was not my style.

The bento sets had juicy seagrapes unlike the DH branch which was just stalks!!

The curry donut was good because it was filled with delicious curry and the donut was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

As a starch lover, this was delicious mash encased in the donut.
I simply love potatoes and bread.
The flavour isn't strong but you can taste potatoes and the donut.

I was a bit disappointed with this because it was too sweet.

As usual the sharks fin broth was delicious and msg free.

I am quite surprised this little joint is listed.
Anyway, I only dined here because I wanted a drink, water was what I really wanted.
Sat down and ordered some Fish shaomai and hot lemon water because it was the closest drink I could get to water.
The shaomai was the usual fare with a high percentage of flour and a fishy taste.
Then when I was taking photos I saw a plastic jug of water with cups.
As I did not finish the lemon water drink, the staff there were really nice and asked me if I wanted it to take it away.

I rarely go to this stretch of Kowloon but discovered this place after dining at Antoshimo.
This place is surprisingly close to the Mikiki mall.
On the walls, there are product shots of the food which is extremely helpful.
The menu has English too!

Started off with my favourite Savoury soybean soup.
It was loaded with spring onions, fried dough stick slices and dried shrimps which gave it lots of flavour and you could also smell and taste the sesame oil.
Then I had the spicy minced meat with noodles.

Personally I found it too spicy for my tastebuds.
There is a choice of cellophane noodles (mungbean noodles) to go with the mince.
Cellophane noodles would definitely taste better.

To sooth my tastebuds, I had the grounded sweetcorn soup which was mildly sweet with lots of grounded sweetcorn in it.
Tried these glutinous rice balls which are clumps of glutinous rice shaped into balls, panfried and then sprinkled with meat floss.

They were nice and filling.
[Please note that they are not served during peak hours ie 12-2pm]

For desserts, there are quite a few to choose from.
I tried the ginger milk dessert which had a strong ginger taste without being too sweet.
The sweet dumplings in soymilk were also good.
Last but not least, the most delicious item in the restaurant which is not served from 12-2pm!!

These are super delicious fluffy and soft steamed Chinese buns with finely grounded meat and preserved vegetables in the middle which are similar to those Taiwanese Guo Baos but costing a mere $10 for 2!!!!!!

The grounded pork was panfried giving a crispy texture loaded with gentle spices and a cumin kick!!
Definitely an item that must be tried if you go at the right time.
If I come here again, I am going to try the steamed rice in lotus leaves with juicy spare ribs!

[Review 2924] Delicious vegetable rice @ 君滬鍋貼大王

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/delicious-vegetable-rice-e2328262

Originally planned to eat at eatstreet@Penthouse but the decor and place was weird and the food was expensive so I left.
Wanted to try Tak Lung but the menu was confusing so resorted to this place.
I ordered the vegetable rice because I was craving for rice that day.
The portion was impressive too, it was a HUGE plate which I finished.
Each grain of rice was distinct and al-dente, the taste was pleasant and not too oily or strongly flavoured.
After reading the reviews when I got back, I was surprised that not many people have ordered the vegetable rice but in my opinion I loved it.
The savoury soymilk soup was quite nice but it was rather bland, the dried shrimps in it were as white as a sheet as if they were bleached!

[Review 2560] Lovely joint with an Aussie touch @ Aussie Cafe

After attempting several times to list this on OpenRice, it finally got listed.
Previously this shop used to be Mr.Fruit but now it has become Aussie Cafe serving juice, sandwiches, pastas and coffee.
The prices are quite cheap too, pastas only cost $3X.
I was hoping they would do Australian style chips with chicken salt but they don't.
However they serve an Australian brand of coffee.
I expected the quality to be good because the owner previously worked at the top notch Mandarin Oriental hotel.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Egg sandwich:
When I ordered it, I thought I needed to wait but it was already done.
It came wrapped in paper.
It was clearly and neatly labelled too.
On the left corner, they have also written the day which they made it for their reference.

I was quite surprised that the paper wrap was really dry and it turned out the sandwich was wrapped in clingfilm within the paper wrap.

The egg sandwich was plain and simple, the taste was how it should be just like the authentic Western sandwiches, and none of that weird tasting salad cream.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Orange juice:
The orange juice was unsweetened which was good and it was slightly foamy on top from the juicing.
It had a lovely label with a Kangaroo on it.

As there are not much food choices at Mikiki I came here for some simple noodles.

Tom yum soup with Cambodian noodles:

The noodles were likable and tasted better than I expected.
The broth had a strong tomato taste and it was not very spicy.
However the prawns could have been fresher.

The blackest vinegar pork trotters!!

I was intending to dine at the famous Tak Lung Restaurant round the corner but it was packed with people so gave up and dined here.

From the name of the joint I assumed they were famous for noodles but at the front they claim their pork trotters in vinegar sauce was also good too so I tried that.

The joint is quite small but there were lots of interesting items on the menu such as the deep fried shaomai with salt and pepper so I tried that as well.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Porks trotter in vinegar served with rice:
When they came I was quite shocked by the colour. I have never seen BLACK vinegar sauce!
It was almost as black as squid ink!

The vinegar they used tasted really nice and it was good quality as claimed.
It was not too sweet and vinegary that I kept sipping spoonfuls of it, and the pork trotters were marinated well in this vinegar.
The texture of the pork trotter were extremely gelatinous and chewy, and the sauce tasted perfect with rice.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried fish shaomai with salt and pepper:

The deep fried fish shaomai with salt and pepper was interesting so ordered it!
I thought it was shaomai tossed in salt and pepper but when it came it was deep fried shaomai sprinkled with salt and pepper.

The taste was quite nice but the salt and pepper was clumped together so the taste of salt and pepper was not evenly distributed.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken wings in vinegar:

The chicken wings did not taste as nice as the pork trotters because they were not pre-marinated.
The tofu pieces were panfried and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and tasted nice when it was dipped with the salt and pepper from the Shaomai dish.
