Goodbye Mr. M
2019-05-05  190 瀏覽
I wasn't expecting this to be my first and last visit to Mr. M!
Anyway, this joint has been open for a year now but I only just found out as I was in the area recently for Cart Noodles.
Located in an Alleyway is Mr. M serving Scotch Eggs, Burgers and Fish Fingers and Chips.

On the counter was a Pop-Up Pirate where players take turns to insert plastic swords into slots.
The unlucky person who launches the pirate is eliminated.
I was tempted to play but it wouldn't be funny if the pirate landed in the frying vat as I had just ordered the Scotch Egg and Fish Fingers with Chips!!!!

[Fish Fingers and Chips]

I loved the chips which were flat and chunky, the Tartar Sauce they used was creamy with a little bit of tartness similar to the ones at McDonald's but not so acidic.
The Fish Fingers were ok but not as Fishy as Bird's Eye Fish Fingers.

Now to the star of the show [Scotch Egg]

Overall it tasted really good but I was concerned the bottom part was a bit pink so I asked because traditionally it is sausage meat/pork mince.
Found out that it was beef so they said pink is ok for beef which makes sense as beef tartare is eaten raw.
Hopefully someone will make a omnipork version soon so vegetarians can devour this as well.
Unfortunately it will be their last day this Saturday according to the guy.

Giving this a smile because they serve all my favourites but Tsuen Wan is a bit out of the way for expats.

[Review 7013] Keema Curry @ CoCo壹番屋 CoCo Ichibanya

As a curry fan, I have been meaning to try the new keema curry by coco ichibanya.
There is a basic one and other options.
I went for the basic one as I was just keen on trying what their Keema would taste like.
When it came, it looked like curry bolognese.
The taste was crap unfortunately.
It wasn't the curry base that killed it but the beef itself.
The curry base was a good one with a nice aroma but the beef which was the meat ingredient stunk.
It was so gamey like it had thawed, gone off and refrozen again during transport and now served as curry.
The gaminess was so bad the curry could not cover it.
I would have been better off buying their packaged version and trying it at home.
At least the quality has been assured at the food factory before it left which is kept at that state in the vacuum packet.

Omnipork patties

Finally made an effort to eat at #肉餅哥 because of omnipork.
Ideally the steamed omnipork with lotus root should have been ordered but I have already tried the panfried version at Kind Kitchen.
There was also Chiuchow style and Sichuan style patties in the omnipork series.
To be honest, it is better off ordering the steamed ones because they don't have the old oil pan fried taste which is worse if you order the meat version because more people eat meat so the oil is probably stronger as the oil is reused more often.
Anyway, the sweet and sour sauce was really good which complimented the omnipork patty very well and it was like eating pork patty without the smelliness

Was shopping in the area so stopped by for some TEA.
Strangely they had HK style milk tea so ordered it along with Japanese tea.
The Japanese tea was ok, it had the usual grassy taste.
The tea on ice tastes like the usual HK milk tea so hkers should love it.
However it was a bit sweet for my liking.
As well as tea, they are serving toasts, crispy pork chop buns to attract the locals.

Colourful Palmiers

I am not really a palmier person but the box was cute and the palmiers came in lots of flavours like matcha, purple potato etc.
Each palmier had generous filling rolled inside.

You can buy them individually at $8 each so I got three flavours that I thought I was going to like.

Earl Grey: Too sweet and the Earl Grey tasted like artificial oil essence.
Purple Potato: It was pretty but that was it, it didn't really impress
Salted Egg: This was really disgusting, cloying sweet as well as salty.

For savoury flavours, I think they should taste completely savoury because the sweetness kills it.
I have tried cheese palmiers before which were just savoury and they tasted damn good.

I am not a fan of kitkat but tried this for fun, there is a chocolate version and matcha version.
Got the matcha as I thought it was going to be less sweet.
The chocolate cake was soft and moist with a nice layer of matcha filling but the matcha filling was quite sugary.
The matcha icing on top was a bit like light and sugary buttercream.
It is topped with a matcha kitkat which is just like eating white chocolate flavoured matcha!!!!

Saw pictures of Hainan Silkie chicken rice which is basically black chicken.
Went there for it but unfortunately they have changed the menu and don't serve this anymore.
Before I went, I called to make sure it was on the menu and they said it was available after 11am.
Luckily, I had some backups on the list to try.

Unknown to many people, 普洱 used to have a branch in Lai Chi Kok near the petrol station.
They were famous for chocolate puerh tea, buccatini and chilled noodles topped with silky tofu.

Unfortunately the branch at LCK closed so the only ones are in Tsuen wan.
As I was in TW, I decided to go in and have my favourites again.
Sadly, they have replaced the silky tofu with premade tofu from the supermarket and the noodle dressing was too sweet.

Noodles in Lo Shui Broth
2018-09-20  107 瀏覽
I was drawn here because this shop specializes in LoShui Noodles.
There are two branches and I think this is the new one.
Anyway, I got the house special which has loshui tofu, radish, fishballs with fruit peel and beef belly.

Tried the broth first and it was quite nice but a bit too weak from what I had imagined.
It was topped with salty raw onions which strangely was the thing that saved the noodles.
[Imagine Salted McDonalds finely chopped onions, that is what they taste like.]
The noodles were the wonton type so I didn't like it as I only like the egg noodles because it didn't absorb the broth so they were tasteless.
As for the other toppings, the beef was tough and dry for beef belly and the tofu was the best so I wish I had just ordered a different noodle with tofu and it would have been cheaper.

Lovingly made in Hong Kong

I was attracted by the restaurant decor because it gave me the impression they were serving healthy dinners.
The decor was relaxing and made you feel at home.

There was a lot to offer on the menu and the prices were very friendly.
What I appreciate is that they use locally farmed poultry, Black Iberian pigs to local organic vegetables.

Each dish on the menu is inspired by Chinese phrases which portrays the way people communicate and behave in Hong Kong.

Started with fresh juices that cost $18 per glass where no sweeteners are added.
There was papaya pumpkin, Jackfruit, red dragon fruit and pumpkin, lemongrass and lime barley water and longan water.
The combinations were good and healthy.

For mains, the star of the show are the noodles which come in a rich chicken broth infused with Chinese ham or Miso broth made with Iberican Pig Bones.
Both broths were strong and MSG free.
The set which includes a drink and dish only costs $68.

As well as noodles, there is healthy mixed grain rice to choose and here is the meat free option with mushrooms as a main dish.

The pork and ginger was cooked in ginger juice so it had that appetizing ginger fieriness.

Last but not least was the spare ribs which are set alight in front of you.
It was sweet and sticky like perfectly roast charsiu.

Definitely coming back for more noodles because I like broths.
Next time I will try the mushroom noodles.

Opposite this shop is Big Sister snacks so this tea shop could also be it's sister branch.
Anyway, I was captivated by the cold brewed tea, not because of the method of steeping tea but the bottle!!!
I also paid $10 extra for the drinks holder because it was cute.
The tea was very cold and you could see there were two teabags in there.
It was oolong so it had a nice grassy bitter taste.
Quite thirst quenching so I will be back if I am in the area.
