[Review 232] Sunday Roast everyday @ Delaney's Wanchai

This is my regular stop for Sunday lunch any day, roast meat/poultry sliced for you at the carvery.

The roast includes a soup/salad, and a drink. The salad is self service, at the salad bar, ranging from beetroot to potato salad.

As for the roast, it has to be collected yourself, but you can pick and have what ever vegetable you want.
The roast I had that day was turkey, and requested for a Yorkshire pudding too, and lots of gravy.

I have walked past this cafe many times, but I have never been in before, because it just looks like a tiny shop from the outside selling cakes.

Since I was bored that day, I wandered in, and saw the sit in area, so I ordered the Raspberry pistache and breakfast tea. The interior of the shop was cosy and Victorian, like a big dolls house, with wallpaper and white skirting boards.

The tables and chairs were also Victorian, and the tea cups and pot, very English in style.

Anyway the cake tasted lovely, tangy raspberry complimented with nutty sweet pistachio mousse. Garnished with a macaroon, which also tasted sweet, and chewy with bits of nuts in it. The perfect cake was rounded off with a nice cuppa!

[Review 230] Sweet Sweet experience @ 小店 Copacabana

Ordered three desserts: apple tart, napoleon and chocolate pudding with sauce.

The apple tart was the best, thin flat tart with custard in the middle and topped with apple slices on top, and covered in icing sugar. The base of the tart was flaky filo pastry. I thought the ice-cream was optional, even without, it would still taste good.

As for the napoleon, the pastry was a bit heavy, and the custard was a bit rich, not as light as the apple tart.

Finally for the chocolate pudding, I expected it to taste like the usual chocolate puddings with hot chocolate sauce in the middle, so there was no surprise with that one.

Overall, all three desserts were well presented and garnished with strawberries, and artistic chocolate sauce drawn on the plate.

[Review 229] $2 egg tart @ 鴻運麵包西餅 (九龍城)

Walking past the busy road in Kowloon city, some pretty egg tarts caught my eye, all of the egg tarts were consistent in colour, size, and goldeness of the pastry. I looked at the price and was surprised it was only $2 each, the cheapest I have seen in Hong Kong.

Anyway these egg tarts have a short crust pastry, nice and buttery, and the egg tart filling has a slight coconut taste to it. The texture of the filling is similar to that of milk pudding. I did not eat them straight away, but the day after and it still tastes as good as the branded ones with short crust pastry, so despite the location, $2 is a very good price.

[Review 228] Macaroni rice noodles @ 越色生香 Tropicana Cuisine

The usual Vietnamese menu, and then I saw the macaroni rice noodles, long rice noodles pipes like macaroni. The last time I had this type of noodle was at Lai Chi Kok Hunnan style noodle bar.

Here I ordered the Prawn macaroni rice noodles with Curry sauce as stated on the menu, however during ordering, I was told it was White curry sauce, as the Chinese is different. Although Satay sauce was also available I stuck with my original order of white curry sauce, just so that I can have a comparison to Satay King.

The food arrived in a fashionable bowl, and a separate bowl of white curry sauce.
I liked the generous pile of salted green spring onions, and the curled up prawns.
After eating the prawn, it reminded me of the plain prawns boiled in water, and it tastes good with the spring onions. As for the noodles, a bit chewy, some ends of it were still hard, and I would have preferred the holes to be bigger in the macaroni noodles so sauce cud get in. The white curry sauce is nothing compared to the taste at Satay King. The sauce is rather lumpy, and after tasting it, it all became clear, it is 70% dessicated coconut puree and ginger, but the ginger is not so strong. The taste was very milky and a little bit sickening, if it was spicier it would have been better, and if the noodles had bigger holes soaking more sauce, it would have tasted much better.
If I can have different noodles next time, I would want to try the satay sauce.

[Review 227] Popular local eatery for Saikunians @ 泰國小吃 Thai Kwok Snack

To be honest, going to eat in Sai Kung is a headache, firstly it is crowded with tourists, and secondly the food isnt really up to standard.
I was recommended this place by the locals, the popular dishes ordered by them are usually the sliced chicken with rice, chicken noodles, and the salty roasted pork.

For tourists, they usually order the snacks, curries, and fried rices, but anyway I think food in Sai Kung, has Sai Kung style, either you like it, or you don't.
Took me a while to like it!

As you can see the sliced chicken is sliced more like shreds than pieces of chicken, and you can request for chicken without skin.
The salted pork is also quite good, very very crunchy, tasting almost like pork scratchings (Western version of deep fried pork skin).

I had the typical chicken rice with spicy sauce, and Lemon noodles in sauce, the sauce was not hot at all, slightly sweet with sour notes.

The interesting thing is that all the staff here are female, Girl Power!

[Review 226] Roast Turkey Finale of 2008 @ Grande

This is Part three of my Roast turkey lunch, the last of it for 2008, so long until next Christmas!

Usually when I eat in Sai Kung, I really do not know what to expect, either it will be good or the opposite.
Anyway with this one, I thought the portion was a bit small, although soup was included, but for that price you would usually get soup, main and drink over at the Hong Kong side.

The plate of turkey was rather Mediterranean to me, the peppers and courgettes were grilled, no Brussels sprouts and only One roast potato. Not very western.

I think if I came here first, I would not have been impressed with portion, but since I have had my fair share of turkey, I am not that bothered about it. The turkey did not come from a properly roasted turkey, but roasted turkey breast rolls.

The stuffing was a bit different, a big slice, the same as the turkey with chestnuts and bits of meat in it, however the menu was slightly confusing, sausage and chestnut stuffing meaning a sausage and some chestnut stuffing, or sausage and chestnut stuffing mixed up ?!

If you have read my earlier part two review, I was actually served a sausage, usually Chipolatas are served with turkey.
