[Review 274] Cantonese thai food @ Chili Club 辣椒會 (灣仔)

I booked a table through the phone, and the guy replied " a table for fee at wun o cock" , so based on his accent, I was expecting some cantonese styled food.

When we got there, the atmosphere was OK, a mix of western ppl and cantonese ppl having lunch there. Waiters anxiously trying to serve people and looking busy.
Luckily there was a chi-eng menu, anyway I ordered the PAD THAI, which came at a reasonable time, however they did'nt give me lemon/lime, which I had to request for, shown in the pic, served in a sauce dish.

I wasnt very pleased when I got the noodles, it was wet, Phad thai is not meant to be wet, also there was chili in it. Anyone would know there is no chili in that, also it tasted a bit sweet.
Most Pad Thais have prawn in it too, none in my dish either.

I think next time I would be safer ordering fried rice instead.

[Review 273] Good food for a reasonable price @ 楊記麵家 Yeung's Noodle

I came here especially to try the dried prawn roe and fish floss with noodles. I was assuming the fish floss would taste sweet, just like pork floss.

Anyway I ordered the dried prawn roe fish floss noodles, the noodles were covered in an abundance of dried prawn roe and fish floss. When I tried the fish floss, it was crunchy with an oven roasted saltiness. The dried prawn roe, had that salty taste to it.

The noodles were soft, and slightly moist to adhere the roe, and fish floss, all tasted to perfection, however I felt the other noodles would be a bit bland, as the fish gives it the strongest flavour.

After getting halfway through the noodles, I could taste the pork fat used to mixed the noodles together, I suppose without it, the whole combination wouldn't work.

Finally the soup was a good thing to finish the noodles off with, sweet in taste, and no MSG whatsoever. However I could not taste the slight bitterness described by others, nor the dried fruit peel.

Anyway will definitely come here again.

[Review 272] Thai food in an isolated part of town @ 泰屋 (元朗) Sawadee Thai Restaurant

The food here is ok but the location is in the middle of no where.

It is good to sit outside, but there are many mosquitoes as well as aroma oils which I am a bit allergic to, hence blocking my senses tasting the food.

The selection is the normal selection you would find at any Thai place, apart from that, there is also a fresh seafood bar to order seafood and cook it the style you want.

The best dish was the prawn fried rice, from the picture, you can see tiny dried sakura shrimps, adding saltiness to the rice.

[Review 271] The art of Sushi @ 山之花料理 Yamanoka Restaurant

I was attracted here by the pictures of sushi, almost like art, and the restaurant name sound simple yet attractive.

Ordered the paper tofu sushi, sushi ball, crab paste sushi, globe fish.
All tasted good, all marks go to presentation.
The tofu sushi was wrapped in green tofu paper, like a thin rubber sheet, sweet in taste, and there was toro and a jelly cube in the middle, which we were told was the sauce.
The other sushi that tasted good, was the crab paste sushi, dark grey/green paste, strong in taste, good enough without soy sauce.
As for the globe fish, it is basically like dry grilled beef jerk, sweet in taste.

[Review 270] shake da lil buns @ Shake'em Buns

I am not really a beef lover, but sometimes I will eat beef burgers. I am impressed with the range at this place, so many flavours to try.
When I saw the little buns, it totally satisfied my hunger and greediness, because they are small enough not to stuff you up, and there are three of them in a set, each of different flavours.

I ordered the Mushroom lovers, three little burgers all with mushroom but different sauces, neatly presented in a cute little box.
There are three sets, which I have all tried, Mushroom is on the lighter side, Southern hospitality will send your tastebuds on a spicy sensation, and the Hawaiian Threesome is a good mix with some chicken, and Philly beef.

I also tried the Tater dongs too with onion gravy, potato croquettes with silky smooth mashed potato inside. Although a little pricey, but so far, I haven’t found any good potato croquettes around the area.
Fried things are good by chance, ie the oil isn't old, and it isn't overfried.

As for the milkshakes, they cant go wrong with vanilla ice-cream, so it tasted OK.

[Review 269] Gunge like taiwanese noodle thread @ 漁民魚蛋王子

Decided to try the Taiwanese noodle threads, as the only other two I have tried are from Ar To and Ar Sing.

However the one here is not as good, firstly the staff didn't even know, they are supposed to offer the condiments such as coriander, vinegar, hot radish etc.
Secondly the quality of the noodles is a bit gunge like, the noodles are so chopped up, and the whole thing is so thick.

As for the taste, it just tasted strong in pepper.

[Review 268] Flame Grilled sushi @ Nagoyaka Tei 和花亭壽司

After a long wait, finally sat down. I thought the waiting time was a bit long, considering, the location is not even in Kowloon, but some small mall in Hang Hau, but I suppose people will queue for any Japanese food.

Slightly higher priced than the usual Genki restaurant, but anyway I liked the range of sushi they had, even for the flame grilled ones, they had interesting flavours like curry.
My favourite one was the Crab liver and crab meat warship, the last time I had it was in Wanchai.
One of the plates was pretty, a glittering gold plate.
