After seeing the appetizing pictures posted on Openrice, I was there to try the spinach noodle in tomato soup, honestly if the noodle had been white or yellow, I probably wouldn’t have read the review in much detail, but it turns out the green noodle is spinach noodle.

When I got there, I poked the picture of it, and didn’t know what “ngau gan” was, as I couldn’t see clearly from their picture, so asked the waitress.
Anyway I got this very impressive answer; well “ngau gan” is just “ngau gan”!

It turns out when I got the noodles, the “ngau gan” is just beef tendons.

The bowl was filled with halved tomatoes, plenty of beef tendons and the green spinach noodles.

Took a sip at the soup, not very sour, but not artificial tomato soup, as for the noodles not that tasty, but after waiting a while for it to soak up the soup, it was ok.
As for the beef tendons, I selectively ate them, as they usually contain animal hair in them.
It was quite soft, and strong in that beef belly marinade.

The place was not as clean as described, but OK to eat there.

[Review 294] Tofu drink 豪江豆業 Macau Soya Bean

Usually sweet tofu is served from the wooden buckets and into bowl, with yellow sugar added according to each persons taste.

I was intrigued by this place, as they have it in drink form.

For $5 I got a cup of sweet tofu with tapioca pearls in it. I have tried Soya milk before, but not Sweet tofu as a drink.
Apart from tapioca pearls, you can also choose red beans in it, as the other option.

The whole drink is not aesthetically pleasing, it looks like puke, but it tastes good, not sweet, but a bit savory, almost like cooked tofu. There was however a slight tinge of sourness.

As for the staff, they assume you know what it is, not that willing to explain.
I had to guess the price of the drink, as she didnt tell me how much it was.

Was impressed with the choice and got the XO sauce fried rice with chicken satay.

The dish requires slightly more time to cook in the microwave than other products, the portion was sufficient for $16 dollars.

However a bit bland, even for XO sauce, and the rice wasn't my cup of tea, as it is Japanese pearl rice.
The chicken satay was very good, chunks of chicken thigh with chicken skin still attached, probably kept there to keep it moist in the process of microwaving.

[Review 292] Best of the British @ Trafalgar

Was given a leaflet to promote it's new opening, looked at the name and saw Trafalgar.
I was immediately drawn to it, with usual flyers, they end up straight in the bin, I looked at it closer and saw the British flag on the logo, hence I really had to try it.

The business card given also had other restaurants listed at the back, namely The Barn, The Barn II, so it must be a subsidiary of them.

Anyway finally gave it a visit on a Friday lunch with Chan Jan.

Both ordered the lobster soup as a starter, very strong lobster smell when it came, dark brown in colour, very salty, the taste was a bit like crab shell broth! Actually you can taste bits of fine shell in it.

For the main dish, ordered the butterfly boneless chicken breast with gravy and mash, and the tuna baguette.
The mash was very rich and fine with lots of butter.
The tuna baguette was surprisingly big, and there was lots of tuna in it, more than I expected, even after I finished the baguette, there was still tuna left. The fries were the flat thick cut ones.
The waiter thought I couldn't finish it off, but a big sufficient for a big eater like me.

I was very impressed with the waiter, because he knew his stuff about food.
The complimentary tea was good, proper English Tea.
Next time I will come again for the more British stuff such as the chicken kievs.

Walked past this little joint many times, but it never appealed to me, firstly because there is no leaflet/menu for me to take away and study, and it looks a bit busy for me stop by and really study the place.
Anyway, my friend got a take out from there, and showed me the picture as shown, the chicken looked quite tender and the rice looked ok, so I ordered one a few days later, and the chicken was as good as it looked. The sauce was sufficiently enough for me to finish the rice and chicken. The rice could have been hotter temperature wise.

Apart from the chicken with rice, I have also tried the Pad Thai, not sweet like the other Thai places which is good, but I needed to add some Soya sauce to liven it up.
There were 4 pieces of prawn in it too.

With all rices and noodles there is a drink included too, the lime one is not too sweet either.

I am a curry lover, especially the Indian type, the variety here is quite good, but geared towards the Indian taste of the strong herbs.
There are lot of curries, ie English, Malay, Argentina, Sweet and Sour, Mango, Italian etc.

I ordered English thinking it would be the pub type with raisins and apricots, which is was not, I was told it contains milk, but anyway it tasted good.
Also ordered the Sweet and Sour one with tomatoes, could not taste the tomatoes or the sourness, but still strong on the Indian side.
Same with the Italian one, couldn't taste the cheese and potato.

The good thing with the curries, you can select the level on how hot you want it, the Indian Naan is better than the other places because it is the dry non oily type.

[Review 289] Iced peanut butter @ 甜品大少

After trying their signature items previously, was not expecting myself to come back again so soon.

This time I came here to try its grated ice dessert, tried most of the flavours in various dessert place, this time tried the peanut one.
I wasnt quite sure how it would taste, ie if it would have crushed peanuts in it, but probably not, as it might break down the ice grater!!

The taste of the grated peanut flavoured ice was better than imagined, buttery and creamy just like peanut butter in frozen form, less salty than real peanut butter and velvety texture.
Had coco pops as a topping, which went quite well.

The other vanilla one was rather boring, but coming here, it made me try the chiuchow jelly as a topping, chewy cubes of flour.

I was quite impressed with the menu too, and the translation was correct too, such as coco pops, and chiu chow jelly.
