[Review 377] creepy crawly crab in the ghost house @ 燒魂屋 (紅磡)

Finally got to try this massive creepy spikey crab, the highlight of my choice in choosing this place.
The crab was fresh and juicy, the crab meat was slightly translucent and pure white in colour, with slight elasticity in texture.

The restaurant name is also quite interesting too, if I am not wrong, it means to burn the ghost house, which should be fun for a halloween dinner.
The rest of the food is ok, the sashimi tastes like the standard sashimi, the grilled satays were great, nice and juicy.

The soup-pot with tofu was good, not too oily or strong, it also contained enoki mushrooms, shiitake mushroom.

The fried oysters and prawn came with my favourite Japanese mayonnaise.

[Review 376] Fried bananas and fried oysters @ 嵐山料理

This is my second visit, and the food is consistently good, last time
i tried the prawns, and fried cheeses.

I came back this time for the fried oyster and banana.

Banana:
Presented like a banana fritter drizzled with blackcurrant sauce, the batter was light and thin, and there were 3 pieces in a portion.
The banana itself was naturally sweet, and the blackcurrant sauce was tangy, giving it a good taste combined together.
Before I tried it, I thought the sauce would have been too sweet therefore ruining it, but it turned out better than anticipated.

Oyster:
The oyster was covered in cutlet and appeared rather thin, the oysters were fresh and tasted strong, juicy and not mushy at all.

Overall they both tasted good, and the standard has kept, and the oil they used has been changed often, hence not ruining the food.

[Review 375] Mixed chinese @ Festive China 又一棧 (九龍塘)

Ok Chinese food is not my expertise, but I think this place is meant to serve Guangzhou food, yet most of the dishes look Shanghainese to me.

Anyway, as I am not sure, I will just comment on the food.

All food was presented very well, sufficient portions, the duck was not that fat, and plenty of meat on it.
The tofu was delicate and sliced into very thin slices but hard to pick up each slice individually intact.

The fish was crispy and tastes like the sweet and sour fish at Golden shanghai restaurant.
There were many slices of abalone underneath the rich gravy, however I thought it was tinned abalone.

[Review 374] Ox-tail curry @ 風味園 (旺角)

Usually when i have ox-tail it is either cooked in red-wine sauce or some braised style, but this restaurant offers curry so I tried it.

The ox-tail was quite soft, and it was piping hot, especially served in a clay pot.

There was some confusion with the staff there, one wanted to give me a bowl to eat, but the other wanted to give me plate.

For me, a plate is much easier, and the food can cool down easier, and there is more room for me to de-bone the ox-tails.

The dish came with soup and drink, so it was ok.

There is nothing worth mentioning in general regarding their food, however their Sharks fin dumpling are quite good. Thin dumpling skin, and steamed just right that it dosnt stick to the box.

Sometimes if I arrive late in the day, it would be sold out, or only one portion is a available.

[Review 372] Better menu design please..@ 京笹居酒屋 Kyozasa Restaurant (尖沙咀)

京笹居酒屋 Kyozasa Restaurant 22/08/2009

Went here for Japanese because of the photos added by other OR reviewers looked good.

Although there has only been 4-5 reviews so far, the photos made it look good enough to try.

The only thing I didn’t like about this place, was the stench of cigarette smell when I walked in, and remained that way when we sat down.
Also there were plenty of tables, I couldn’t understand why we were placed in very closed proximity to the next table when the rest of the restaurant was empty.
I would have also preferred a bigger table, since the table we had was not that sufficient to place all of our food. I had to put the condiment tray on the table next to us to get more space.

I wasn’t impressed with the menu, there were no pictures at all, and the range was incomplete, I couldn’t find the food mentioned on the reviews, so I had to ask for it.
The menu was like an effortless printed list with Chinese and English from a word document and placed in those A4 plastic folders. I asked for pictures and was given a photo album, which was only for the highlighted or popular items.

Moving on to the food, ordered Bonito Tofu, clams in Sake, Rolled Beef with spring onions and garlic, Squid and fermented beans rice, and soba noodles with mountain yam.

Bonito Tofu:
Tasted better than imagined, the outside was crunchy, and the inside was soft and smooth.

Clams in Sake:
Tasted really good, when the bowl arrived, you could smell the sake.

Rolled Beef:
I have had better ones before, so this one was terrible, very fatty and the inner of the roll was not that well cooked.

Squid and fermented beans with rice: Tasted a bit bland, but overall it all tasted good.

Soba noodles with Mountain Yam: I asked for the cold one, but they suggested the soup one. I wish I had stayed with my choice, as the soup made the noodles too soft, and dilutes the flavour. The mountain yam gets diffused in the soup.

Like other places that do eat as much as you can, its dishes are limited or wide range depending on what your tastes are.

For me, I thought it was limited because it didnt have prawn tempura, fried cheese new years cake, however it did have aloe sashimi, and fermented soy beans and mountain yam.
