Of all laksas i have had i am still a loyal fan of Katong, I have yet to try Malaymama.
The only thing unique with the laksa here, is that you can choose silver pin noodles.
The Laksa was not spicy at all, and the soup was thin, the oysters were added when served.
The other dish that was excellent was the satays with yellow ginger rice, it turned out to be the star of lunch. Although slightly overly on the sweet side, but very delicious.
The rice, known as ginger rice, was a bit bland.
The satays were ok, only the beef and chicken was good, the pork had bits of fat on it.
The octopus was chewy and tasteless, but tasted good together with the beef satay.
I also thought it was quite cool, all their chopsticks were black, however there was a pair of light blue chopsticks on our table, and very rare to find blue chopsticks.
As for the environment, it was so hot and not air conditioned, a total glutton for punishment eating there on a hot day, I was wearing hot pants and vest top and I was fuming from inside out!

[Review 427] Old Hong Kong @ 星巴克咖啡 Starbucks Coffee
21/09/2009
中環都爹利街13號樂成行地庫中層
Floor M2, Baskerville House, 13 Duddell Street,, Central
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/old-hong-kong-at-starbucks-e2030935
Finally popped round to this Starbucks imitating Old hong kong, one side of the cafe is modern, and the other side is like the old style cafe.
The food and coffees are the same as any starbucks, would be good if they had a starbucks version of old hong kong food, so it would be an attraction to go there and eat it, or use some sort of old cafe style cups.
Refreshed ourselves with iced mocha and old fashioned lemonade.
The lemonade was fizzy and tasted quite natural unlike the seven-up types,
and the iced mocha tasted good as usual.

[Review 426] green mango slush @ Joda's cup (北角)

After trying the freshly brewed Jasmine tea, I came back for the green mango and black sugar tea.
The green mango was excellent, just at the right sweetness and it had bits of mango in it.
As for the black sugar tea, its basically hong kong style tea with black sugar syrup, which was not that evident in taste.
I would recommend the slushes for fast coolers to the hot weather, and the Jasmine tea for refreshers.

[Review 425] Grubby place to eat @ 狀元麵館 (灣仔)

As a laksa lover, I will try laksa at different places. This place is like the usual cha chan teng, infact I think it is a chain of May Wong’s, but worse.
The restaurant is very cramped with tables at one side with a corridor only wide enough for one person.
Despite the setting, still decided to eat there, waited for ages for someone to come over and take the orders.
Ordered Laksa and Vietnamese noodle and added $5 for green tea with jelly drink.
The laksa just tasted like diluted laksa, not spicy and tasteless, you could only tell it was laksa by appearance and smell ONLY.
The Vietnamese noodles was Ok, nothing too bad or too good about it.
But the worst thing was, the drink was on the printed receipt, but they forgot to put the order in the kitchen.

[Review 424] Cutey afternoon pizza for tea @ PizzaExpress (灣仔)
19/09/2009
灣仔船街嘉薈軒4號舖
Shop 4, J Residence, Ship Street,, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/cutey-afternoon-pizza-for-tea-e2030428
I was intending to go to Double tree for the baked apple in filo pastry with ice-cream, luckily I asked before going in, its so annoying when they have it displayed on their window, and they don't serve it.
Anyway, so then I popped across the road to Pizza express for tea, there was either pizzas or desserts, the desserts were just the normal chocolate cakes, cheesecakes, so I opted for the pizza.
It was a selection of 3 mini pizzas including a drink.
The three pizza’s were cheese and margarita, cheese and pepperoni and duck with hoisin sauce.
I ate the cheese margarita first, then the pepperoni and lastly the duck one because duck with hoisin sauce is totally different taste to tomato being on the sweet side.
All of them had the consistent thin pizza base, the cheese and margarita was good, starting out with the usual pizza taste, then moving on with a slightly stronger taste with pepperoni, then a change of tone with the sweet hoisin sauce.
Finally finished it off with a pot of tea, and it tasted much silkier than the Lipton brand.

[Review 423] 3rd visit to Ajisen @ Ajisen 味千拉麵 (灣仔)

ShopA, G/F, CKK Comm.Bldg., 289 Hennessy Rd,, Wan Chai

Within a week, this is already my third visit to Ajisen, first at hang hau, then po lam, and now finally at Wanchai.
I have this sudden addiction to Ajisen noodles, this time I tried the new sweetcorn noodles, basically it is noodles in sweet corn based soup, with two pieces of stuffed sweetcorn!!!!!
新登場 - 山形大粟拉麵 Yummy Yamagata corn Ramen 香脆的天婦羅裏面充滿彈牙的墨魚膠;加埋日本山形縣的粟米濃湯底!
The stuffed sweet corn is basically like stuffed vegetables such as halved bell peppers stuffed with fish patty, however this one is stuffed with squid patty.
how is it done!! can anyone tell me!!~!
see wat i mean:

The reason why it was very intriguing, is because if you slice the sweetcorn from the edge of the stalk the sweetcorn seeds have nothing to support it and become separated seeds. Yet all the sweetcorn seeds were intact and arranged like a sweetcorn with the squid patty on the other side. I really doubt each of the seeds were stuck on the patty. And the whole piece was fried in tempura coating.
Anyway back to the sweet corn noodles, I really loved it, the sweetcorn soup was very interesting, it tasted like WHITE RABBIT SWEETS, especially on the first sip and when you swallow it.
I also tried the prawn dumplings, they were as good as the normal ones, except the primary ingredients were beef and prawn! A contrasted combination from strong beef to light flavour of the prawn!

[Review 422] The best chili corn carne @ Agave Wan Chai (灣仔)
17/09/2009
灣仔駱克道93號地下C&D舖
ShopC &D,93 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/the-best-chili-corn-carne-e2030003
Its very hard to find good chilli carne in Hong Kong, usually the good ones are from british pubs, there will be some Chinese versions served in places, but they tend to add tomato in it, making it more like salsa.
As this place specialises in Mexican food, that did the trick, also you have to go on the day they serve chilli con carne on the menu too!!
So today, I ordered the lunch set with soup, mains and tea.
The soup base was thin, sprinkled with fresh coriander, tomato based with rice and chicken in it, it also had a dash of chilli sauce giving it some spice.
Then came the chilli con carne, I chose Mexican rice and re-fried beans to go with it, the rice portion was small, and re-fried bean is just mashed beans. The chilli con carne was excellent, lots of beans, beef, and fully flavoured.
The restaurant décor is quite aztec mexican style, open restaurant over looking Lockhart road, but the only drawback is the air conditioning, not cool enough and slightly humid due to the open style.
Winter would be a perfect time to come here again, especially because the food was spicy.
