I have planned to try this place along time ago, but I didn’t know the location was so that close to the North point MTR exit.
The shop is very small, and probably seats about 10 people on five tables.
Although it looks old on the outside, it is very clean inside and they even have a powerful mosquito zapper which works!!
The mosquito zapper can be heard popping every now and then.
This shop specialises in "Imitation" Sharks fin soup, they even have a special note outside stating they do not use real Sharks fin.
The choices of SF soup were amazing.
For Sharkfin soup, there is a choice of:
Tofu SF soup
Crabmeat SF soup
Scallop SF soup
Shredded chicken SF soup
Bamboo pith SF soup
Original SF soup with fish maw.
The soup tasted like the real sharks fin soups served at Banquets, so if you are expecting the “bowl of SF soup” served at small street shop joints it doesn’t.
The colour of the soup was dark brown, but clearer than Bisto gravy.
With SF soup, people like to add white pepper, sesame oil, or red vinegar to it, however it tasted really nice with or without.
In the SF soup, I found egg, chinese ham, black fungus
I could also taste dried fruit peel and they cleverly put bits of fish skin to imitate the shark's fin taste.
I tried the stir-fried noodles in XO sauce which are the thin Chiuchow style noodles.
There was a mixture of different noodles of different widths.
The noodles tasted really nice with the addition of their home made vinegar with chili which remind me of the sauces at Thai Restaurants.
I liked the way they ask you if you want sesame seeds on the noodles, because some people don't, the same putting parmesan cheese on pasta.
The chicken was good too, although it was slightly tough, but it was fresh. The rice was nice but too soft.
As well as the above items, they had noodles in Tom yum soup which is interesting, especially in a shop like this.
They also had Cambodian noodles in curry sauce too.

[Review 1106] Vegetarian Deli @ Life Deli
05/05/2011
Life Deli
灣仔莊士敦道50號
50 Johnston Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/vegetarian-deli-e2167420
Before this shop opened, it used to be an Italian joint, but now it is a vegetarian deli.
The decoration and style reminded me of Il bel paese.
At first, I didn't know it was vegetarian until I checked it out, so for Vegetarians in this area, they can come here, World Peace Cafe or Happy Veggies and others.
The shop sells various health foods as well as salads and cakes.
The Quiches and cakes appeared to be heavy and bigger than normal ones.
I believe the bigger portions can compensate for hunger.
I tried the salad Quinoa, which looks exactly like cous cous, but but bigger.
It was hard and waxy. The dressing used for it made it too creamy.
I also got the quiche but I didnt really like it, it was too hard and dry.

[Review 1105] Green tea milk @ Kami Teapresso (尖沙咀)

Previously tried their tea series which was slightly disappointing, this time I tried the matcha latte.
It was slightly better, but not as creamy and full as the reviews said.
Apart from that, its good to see that they have more drinks and now offer snacks too.
New snacks:
mini rose tea cake, valhrona snowball, honey madeleines and more!

[Review 1104] Singmalay series 26 @ 蝦蝦麵 Sam's Noodle
05/05/2011
蝦蝦麵 Sam's Noodle
九龍城南角道18-22號忠英樓地下B舖
Shop B, G/F, Chung Ying Building, 18-22 Nam Kok Road, Kowloon City
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/singmalay-series-part-26-e2167403
On my previous review I said I would be back for the prawn noodles, however I totally forgot and ordered the dinner for two.
Had I ordered the prawn noodles it probably wouldn’t have been so disappointing.
The set for two costs 188 with another 10% charged on top.
The set includes a choice of salad, snack platter, two mains, a choice of rice or drinks.
Salad:
There was a choice of gado gado and shredded chicken salad, I chose the gado gado as I haven’t tried it before.
Basically it was lettuce, cucumber, tofu, beanshoots, potato with sweet curry sauce.
The curry sauce was spicy.
Overall, I found it quite home-made, anyone could have cut some salad vegetables and added sauce on top.
Snack platter:
This was totally boring, it had chicken wings, fried pork chop, squid and prawn cake, fried dumplings.
I felt this was so Chinese. Although the portion was big, I felt that it just acted as a filler.
The chicken wings didn’t taste as good as the previous visit.
Mains:
For the mains, the choice was even more boring especially the vegetables, stir fried choi sum with garlic was so Chinese so I didn’t pick that. Same with sweet and sour pork chop, which is probably the same pork chop in the starter but with sweet n sour sauce.
buk kut teh
In the end chose Assam chicken and Buk Kut Teh.
The assam chicken also looked very amateur, it was sweet and spicy, the sauce just tasted exactly like the sauce for the gado gado.
The Buk Kut The tasted how it should, however the meat was slightly too tough and dry.

[Review 1103]Curly wurly thai pasta @ 泰國路邊街美食

泰國路邊街美食
九龍城城南道26號地舖
G/F, 26 South Wall Road, Kowloon City
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/curly-wurly-thai-pasta-e2167373
On this second visit, I came here especially for the noodles that look like rolled up rice rolls.
It makes me curious what they look like before they are cooked.
These curly rice noodles were quite al-dente, and went well with the strong soup base..
Apparently they are pronounced “gwere” in Thai.

[Review 1102] Macau crispy buns with various of fillings @ 澳門茶餐廳 Macau Restaurant

Not really a fan of food served in restaurants Chinese style.
Macau restaurant is basically like a Chinese restaurant serving Macau style food, but I felt it was quite similar to Chinese, especially the curries, crabs, baked rice and the pricing was expensive for that style of restaurant where you need to share tables with others.
Anyway, I only tried the crispy buns, there were lots of different ones to try, from kaya to curried tuna.
I tried the one with peanut butter and condensed milk and the curry.
I forgot to ask them to leave out the butter, so I got a slab of butter on top.
I always find that weird, the slab of butter on crispy buns and pineapple buns.
Overall, the crispy bun was well done, the crust was crispy, and the inside was soft.
For the peanut butter it was coarse peanut butter, and you can see the pieces of peanut.
The savoury one tasted better, the fish was not too dry, but the curry was quite spicy.
Next time I would like to try plain kaya, without butter.

I am not really a fan of Chinese food, but decided to post this review for people who like Chinese food.
Basically it was a group dinner, so it was several courses of food.
To me they just taste like the usual chinese food, but you can judge for yourself from the pictures.
The most memorable item was probably the Abalone, big and tender with rich sauce.
I was surprised they had an English brand of water ICENI
Apart from the food, the restaurant is located outside the mall, which is slightly hard to find if haven't been to the New Territories.
