伊利沙伯醫院職員飯堂 Queen Elizabeth Hospital Staff Canteen

Dined here about a year ago but I had no intentions of writing about it, but since I decided to write about the TKO Hospital canteen I might as well write about this too.
Compared to the TKO hospital, this canteen was much busier and packed with people so I did not take pictures of the restaurant itself.
Both canteens serves the typical Chinese food which I am not really fond of and when there is nothing that I like I just order the Stir Fried Beef Ho Fun.
The Beef Ho Fun looked OK and the taste OK but it was too heavy and greasy.
The spring onions could have been cut shorter.

Since no one has written about the food here I might as well write about it.
The canteen serves the usual Chinese food and since Chinese food is not my cup of tea, I only ordered the Stir fried beef ho fun because I did not know what to order.
The portion was big but it was very oily and tasteless.

[Review 1560] Delicious coconut egg white munchies @ 君蘭餅店 Orchid Padaria
12/05/2012
君蘭餅店 Orchid Padaria
北角港鐵炮台山站10號舖
Shop 10, Fortress Hill MTR Station, North Point
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/delicious-coconut-egg-white-munchies-e2234265
I have always been a fan of Orchid Padaria Bakery but their shops were located in the New Territories or KCR stations which is not in my path.
Now they have a few shops in the city which is really good.
Previously I have tried their sawdust puddings and they were good.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This time when I went in, there were quite a few interesting items such as the cheese triangles, and macarons.
The cheese triangles can be bought in packs or in twos.
Anyway in UK we have Dairylea so it would be interesting to try a different brand that is not imported in the UK.
I really regretted not getting some.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I spotted some bite sized snacks for HKD10 which looked like mini coconut macaroons which are not to be confused with the French Macarons as seen in the above picture.
Coconut macaroons are really sweet snacks made with lots of coconut, almond and starch which gives it firmness.
The ones here looked light and they are called Coconut and egg whites and a bit like baked meringues.
When I opened the packet, I could instantly smell the coconut which was really nice.
I loved the size of them.
Anyway, the taste was great, it was not too sweet but it got sweeter after I had quite a few.
It had the same texture as crispy meringue and there was so much desiccated coconut in it.
If you leave them for a while, the humidity will make them chewy and they also tasted gorgeous chewy, so I am going to get another pack and deliberately leave it in the open for a while to make them chewy.

Once again I would like to thank IVYCWK for helping me update OpenRice with this new restaurant especially researching the address and details of this joint to get it listed.
According to IVYCWK, the sushi's are marked down in the evening to sell quicker but as I went in the day I got them at full price.
I was attracted by the packaging and the size of these sushis, they are so tiny and cute.
They come in packs of two so its great if you are only feeling peckish and just feel like something light.
[In my case I consumed these before the OR gathering at DLS along and some cakes at Kings bakery, but this restaurant has just been listed so the reason why this review is a little old].
The size of these sushis are merely bigger than a one dollar coin, and smaller than the sachets of sauce!!
The sushis were quite fresh and tasted how they should.
Because of their size, it was fun just popping them in my mouth!

[Review 1558] Malaysian Delights @ 美食吧
11/05/2012
美食吧 (已結業)
灣仔駱克道146-148號裕安大樓地下C2號舖
Shop C2, G/F, Yue On Building, 146-148 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/malaysian-delights-e2234193
Previously this shop used to be Quezon and then a shop selling Taiwanese spicy snacks.
I noticed it recently because they had Penang style prawn noodles.
As well as Malaysian food they also had other cuisines such as Spicy Chongqing noodles and the Chinese noodles with toppings that you choose.
I was quite surprised that they had such a big range in a small shop, but then Quezon had a great range when it was open.
Although there is lots of variety, it is also limited for the time being because they do not offer the full range at the moment.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Took a picture of the product pictures and noticed that they are still using the three pin round socket which I thought would be extinct now!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Prawn noodles:
The broth was really sweet with strong prawn taste, however the prawns that were given were the frozen ones.
The noodles were the thick yellow ones and really soft if you compare them to the ones at Prawn noodle shop.
There was lots of morning glory in it too.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Laksa noodles:
The noodles contained cuttlefish balls, tofu puffs and egg noodles.
The broth was coconut based.
I am not sure if there are meant to be any shrimps in the noodles because the product picture/sample has shrimps in it.
I wish there was more broth.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Curry chicken:
The colour of the curry was quite nice and there was lots of basil leaves in it.
The coconut was strong and it was freshly grounded coconut.

[Review 1557] Dinky Japanese cheesecakes

Shop 27, B2/F, Sogo, 555 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/dinky-japanese-cheesecakes-e2233929
Saw these cute pieces of cheesecake so bought two to try.
They are priced by weight.
I did not try their croissants because they looked dry and hard.
The cheesecake was light and not heavy.
It had so many different tones in the taste, first I could taste some coconut, next the cheese and then the sweetness.
The cheese cake costs HKD7.8 and size of these cheesecakes are about 6cm x 4cm.

[Review 1556] Scotch Egg @ Mushroom Bakery 磨菇麵包店

西貢普通道56號地舖
G/F, 56 Po Tung Road, Sai Kung
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/scotch-egg-mushroom-bakery-e2233775
Currently in Sai Kung there are only two places that serve this Scotch egg: Ali Oli and Mushroom Bakery.
A Scotch egg consists of a hard-boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat, coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried.
So far the best one I have tasted would still have to be the one at Marks and Spencers.
Anyway the one here cost $12 which tasted OK but the MSG was too strong.
The egg was flavoured as well.
The sausage meat was not soft enough but I liked the herbs they put in the sausage meat.
