I never thought I would be trying the ramen at Fairwood because I just assumed Fairwood would be packed with people and the price of the food is quite expensive for self-service style.
The Ramen King is only served at lunch and DINE in only.
There are three different types, which are associated with colour the same as Butao: Black, Red and White.
White is the most basic ramen which comes in pork broth, red is the spicy one and black is black garlic oil.
All the ramen have a pork broth, topped with thinly sliced roast pork, black fungus, kelp, garlic puree, spring onion and an egg.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Black Ramen King
On the product shot there was generous black garlic oil and on the real thing it was barely visible.
For those who have not tried black garlic oil and are hoping to try it through the black king I suggest they can try Nissin’s black garlic oil instant noodles.
The sachet of black garlic oil from Nissin is more generous!!!
If it is someone’s first time trying black garlic oil, they are not going to get any memorable impression.
Other than that, I felt that these noodles were Jongkonised starting from the Chinese style broth which was really thin and the egg was hard poached too.
The pureed garlic was quite nice but not freshly made garlic puree and the noodles were similar to spaghetti which was really soft and thick. As for the soup it was quite tasteless that I had to add some chili from the other Red Ramen bowl.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Red Ramen King
This was basically the same as the above but served with chili oil which was so Chinese!
It had preserved beans in it, the exact same taste as Ja Jiang chili sauce.
Although it is not authentic ramen, the chili sauce made it quite delectable because of the preserved beans.

[Review 1626] Egg white delight ciabatta @ 星巴克咖啡 Starbucks Coffee

After trying the Hojicha and Green tea with Red bean frappuccino, I noticed the egg white delight ciabatta which I decided to try this time.
I also got the original green tea frappuccino as well to compare it to the Green tea frap with red beans.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Egg white delight ciabatta
The ciabatta was wrapped nicely just like a hamburger.
The fillings in the ciabatta was really nice, it had egg white, cheese and ham. It was simple but delicious.
The ciabatta was crispy and soft in the centre.
I thought the plain egg white was the best because the egg yolk is usually cooked and starchy in ciabattas or other sandwiches. Here it is just plain egg white, which is healthy for people who cannot consume too much cholesterol.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Green tea frappuccino
The green tea frappuccino in my opinion tastes better than the one with red beans because I do not like red beans, and this one is much creamier with extra whipped cream on top.
I requested for Vanilla free because the green tea powder itself is sweet.

[Review 1625] Great news for La Rose Noire fans with Passion @ Passion by Gerard Dubois

I have always been a fan of La Rose Noire, which has a section at the local supermarket.
They sell economical savoury and sweet pastries.
The sandwiches they do are great because they have all my favourite comfort ingredients such as chicken tikka and tandoori.
Their sandwiches are plain and simple with the 'normal' dressings and they have a strong reputation with the expats.
As well as pastries and sandwiches they have artisan cakes which can be seen online on their website but they were not sold at the supermarket.
I was so glad when this new place opened, located on the corner of Fraser House.
It is opened by Gerald Dubois, the owner of La Rose Noire ( which has a lovely website with pink and black as main colours and a rose).
They even have their deliveries delivered by their own La Rose Noire van.
Passion by Gerard Dubois houses all my favourite items from pastries, cakes to savoury items.
With this new place, I can't wait to see all his latest cake creations.
The prices are reasonable too perhaps slightly under priced because the whole interior and selection surpassed my expectations.
I loved the high ceilings and wooden fixtures, the whole place is just a wonderful place to stay for a rainy afternoon with people whizzing by while your divulging on delicious cakes.
Their nougats looked really good too especially the pink one.
Since I have tried their pastries I decided to try their cakes and vegetable quiche.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
La Framboise:
There were so many thin layers of cake and filling and on top there was lovely dehydrated raspberry bits.
The cake was quite sweet. It was dusted by delicate fine flakes of desiccated coconut.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
La Pistache:
This was my favourite, the taste was intense, although it was mainly meant to be pistachio, there were tones of raspberry and coconut in it as well.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Vegetable quiche:
The taste of the quiche was like savoury steamed egg because the egg taste was really strong and in the quiche filling were occasionally pieces of broccoli.

Decided to try the Chocolate and hazelnut delight and save the Pumpkin quiche option for when I am hungrier.

Chocolate and hazelnut delight HKD27
The cake looked like an opera cake with different layers however it was really hard and the cream layers were brittle and dry.
The top layers tasted nice but the bottom most layer was dry and hard.
There was not much hazelnut taste or any hazelnuts in this cake.
Overall if the cake was much softer I would have liked it.

Got the rice rolls for $10.
They are tasteless at first because all of the sauce is at the bottom.
The spring onions and dried shrimps could barely be seen.
Overall it tastes ok with the sauces but the texture of the rices rolls were not soft enough.

[Review 1622] J-Dog Tai Hang versus Juicy J's Sai Kung @ J-Dog

When I saw reviews for this place I was really excited and wanted to go as soon as possible.
The last time I had a nice Japanese hotdog was in Sai Kung at Juicy J's and here it seems they have more flavours for Japanese Hotdogs.
Luckily it is quite close to Tin Hau MTR station, so you do not need to walk as far as Tai Hang Village where most of the eateries are.
Anyway, from the outside it looks like a giant vending machine which is obviously for decoration purposes.
The menu is nice and simple.
Compared with Juicy J's the interior was quite Japanese ,
The only let down was the dripping air conditioning.
On the photos you can see there are lots of big droplets about to fall.
Apart from the water dripping I was surprised they had separate bins for plastics, cans and paper.
I do not have a picture but their takeaway boxes for the hotdogs were nicely designed but you have to pay $2 for takeaway.
Also their napkins have their logo on it and cost $1 per pack.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
They offer six different types of hotdogs and a mega long 50cm one which has four different fillings in each segment similar to the quattro four seasons pizza except the fillings are side by side.
They have put thought in pairing the fillings with the sausage to give you the best taste, but the ony disadvantage is that there is no flexibitliy like other hotdog places where you can choose the sausage.
It limits the choice for people who do not eat pork or beef.
So here you have to decide which is the most important item, the sausage or the filling?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
There are seven different hot dogs to choose from:
D0 - 50 cm Jumbo family dog ( 4 flavours)
D1 - Nori dog - Seaweed, onion, chicken sauce, mayonnaise and chicken sausage
D2 - Sabi Dog - Cucumber, wasabi, mayonnaise, cheese sausage
D3 - Daikon Dog - radish, spring onions, beef sausages
D4 - Kaso Dog - bonito flakes, cabbage, pork sauce, mayonnaise, pork suage.
D5 - Niko dog - crab roe, cucumber, mayonnaise, intimation crab,
D6 - Chimi dog - tomato sauce, spice powder, onion, mayonnnaise, spicy sausage
All the hot dogs have matching names. The hot dogs I was interested in trying were Sabi Dog, Daikon Dog and Niko Dog.
I think the Niko Dog is quite a good option for something light because it is just crab ment.
In the end I chose the Daikon dog because it was similar to the one in Sai Kung with radish but they did not let me change the beef sausage to chicken so I chose the Nori Dog instead.
Thinking back I should have ordered the Sabi Dog because cucumber, wasabi and sausage is also a good combination.
But anyway I will be back to try the rest.
As well as hot dogs they also serve other fried snacks such as scallops which I also want to try.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The items I would order:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Luckily I did not order two hotdogs because the hotdogs were huge, about 9 inches long, the hot dog was longer than the A4 Tri-fold leaflet as shown on the picture!!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
D1 - Nori dog
The bun for the dog was quite nice and it was soft, it had black sesame stuck to the centre of it.
Beneath the generous seaweed there was plenty of mayonnaise sauce and diced onions which tasted nice however I found the sausage slighty too chewy and rubbery.
The only cutlery they had was a plastic fork which can make eating quite messy and same comment as the previous review they only had a steak knife.

Scrambled eggs with Chinese roast pork cannot go wrong.
When it arrived it looked visually delicious, but the egg was strangely dry.
Other than that the roast pork and soy sauce tasted nice together.
There were lots of spring onions and onions in the scrambled egg which made it not so boring.
