Before this place opened, there was a branch at Mong Kok which purely did waffles, however there was no dine in area so I never went there.

Although this place is for famous for Waffles, I came here for the sticky toffee pudding dessert which was my favourite at school served with hot custard.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sticky toffee pudding:
Sticky toffee pudding is a British steamed dessert consisting of a very moist sponge cake, made with finely chopped dates or prunes, covered in a toffee sauce and often served with a vanilla custard or vanilla ice-cream. A modern British ‘classic’, alongside Jam Roly-Poly and Spotted Dick puddings.
==============================
I requested for the sticky toffee pudding to be served with cream instead of ice-cream because the pudding is quite sweet itself and I did not want to have ice-cream making it even sweeter.

Some Toffee puddings are plain moist sponge cakes covered in toffee sauce and some toffee puddings are made with finely chopped dates or prunes.
I prefer the ones without dates or prunes available in the canned version from Heinz.
Anyway when it came, the dessert was nice and hot and the smell of the cream on top as a result of the hot sponge was delicious.

The version of the sticky toffee pudding here had dates in it, but they tasted ok and there was toffee sauce on the side of the pudding.
The sticky toffee pudding was really sweet but that was expected.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
All was well and they even provided a glass of water which was essential especially when you are having sweet stuff, however I had to request another spoon because there was some stains on it.

Thanks to Ivy for telling me about this new HERO branch which was opened before Christmas.

I was thrilled when they opened this first Hong Kong branch in Sheung Wan followed by another branch in Central.

They still have the first branch in Tai Kok Tsui which I have always wanted to go but it was too far away and I did not know how to get there!
It just shows how good the food at HERO is because Tai Kok Tsui is out of bounds for quite a lot of people and there are not many westerners that live there and yet it has been around for ages.

I have always thought Hero was a bit out of place in Tai Kok Tsui because it should have always been on the Hong Kong island, but it has survived in a place where the cuisines and locals around it are mostly Chinese which really shows their food is great.

The location in Sheung Wan is great, it is near the MTR station and also near Central.

I ordered the rib eye sandwich set with fries, a jacket potato and extra gravy for the chips.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rib eye sandwich:

Took one bite and fell in love with it even though I do not like beef.
The slices of beef were lean and fatless and the sauce they used was similar to the sauce used in McD's big mac,
However there was no cheese as shown on the product shot but it still tasted nice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Jacket potato with corned beef:

I finally got a properly baked jacket potato because the potato skin was crispy and edible too.
The texture of the potato was good too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fries:

The fries were perfect too with just the right amount of salt.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Gravy:

The gravy was delicious and complimented the steak sandwich and fries perfectly.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Coffee:

The coffee was quite nice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

I will visit the Central branch too.

[Review 2190] Gwat Gwat Guangzhou style rice rolls in Sai Kung @ 肥肥小食店 Fat Fat Snack

Tried this place because of the banner showing these weird looking rice rolls.
Initially I did not know the Chinese for it but it turns out it is pronounced "guaat" which means rough

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Gwat gwat rice rolls:
When it came, these rice rolls looked like long straight umblical cords and they also reminded me of the Chaozhao style rice rolls too, however the Chaozhao rice rolls are served circular and look more like a sheep's placenta.

Chaozhou Rice Roll

I just felt they tasted like ordinary rice rolls but because they had extra ridges, it was slightly al-dente and the ridges hold the sauce, so it tastes better.
I asked them if these were Chaozhao rice rolls and they said they learnt it from Guangzhou!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Snacks:

There was nothing interesting about the frankfurters, fishballs or shaomai.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Inmitation sharks fin soup:

This was like gunge and it was so lumpy that you can taste the starchy flour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soy bean drink:
It was good that it was not sweetened and the sugar is added by yourself

Previously I assumed this was a shop selling frozen foods for Barbecues and parties but now they also do seafood and they have a dine in section for grilled snacks.
Stopped by for some grilled foods because they there was a free sweet soup if you ordered any grilled item.

Ordered the grilled mackerel and grilled beef cubes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled mackerel:

The mackerel was grilled just right and the skin was extremely crispy.
The taste was nice and natrual and you can also taste the natural fish oils.
I was really glad they did not add the nasty sweet teriyaki sauce to it, however if they had a wedge of lemon it would have been perfect.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled beef cubes:There was too much black pepper
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beancurd and cane sugar sweet soup:This was not as nice as anticipated, but I have never been a fan of sweet soup!

[Review 2188] Riso SEGRETO @ the new Domain Mall

I was attracted to this restaurant because of the Piccata Roast chicken.
On my first visit, the chicken was sold out, I was really annoyed because I had waited to get a table and if they had told me I would not have waited.

The style was quite different to the other Riso Cafes, so I did not associate that this was a sister branch of it because Riso Cafes are red and white and this one had more Venetian style to it.

Bascially you order and have the food brought to you but you have to pay once you have ordered and they only accept cash.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
pumpkin soup:

this may be too light for some but I loved it, it tasted like baby food.
The negative comment was that the soup was barely warm
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Garlic bread and potato wedges:

Riso SEGRETO的相片 - 油塘
Same as the soup, the potato wedges were cold and dry.
I suspect it had been reheated in the microwave because potatoes were really dry.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Raisin risotto:

The set came with raisin risotto but I actually would have preferred the tomato risotto offered with the other chicken set.
However the raisin risotto surprised me because it was quite nice.
The portion of risotto was stingy if you look at it compared to the size of the cherry tomatoes and the spring chicken.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast Spring Chicken:

The roasted spring chicken was quite nice but I did not like the sauce and herbs because it was sweet.
They only gave one knife between us!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hawaii satay pizza with pasta:

The pineapples on the pizza were too sweet and made the pizza soggy and the pasta was too peppery.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Drinks:

The drinks for the set were quite good because they had earl grey tea and peach tea.
I wanted to order the earl grey but it was not served with milk which was weird so ordered the Jasmine and peach tea.
The peach tea was quite nice because the taste was quite natrual and not too sweet.

[Review 2187] Eric Kayser's financiers in da monetary HK world @ Maison Eric Kayser

I was quite excited about this new opening, they have a bakery as well as a restaurant.
Eric Kayser is from a family of French bakers and invented the liquid levain.

The financiers looked nice so I brought one to try, there were three flavours that day:
cherry and pistachio, raspberry and chocolate.
They had mini ones which I wanted to try but the mini ones didn't have the cherry.
I have never tried a Financier before but I just knew it has a lot of almonds in it.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pistachio and cherry Financier HKD28:

As the name suggests, it is related to the Finance world because the cakes are made from the traditional rectangular mold, which resembles a bar of gold. Another theory suggests that the cake was popular in the financial district of Paris surrounding the Paris stock exchange.
After buying it, I couldnt wait to eat it so opened the paper bag and I could smell lovely almond already.
The smell is really similar to marzipan.
Anyway when I started to eat it, I didn't realise the inside was runny, I definitely needed a fork because the centre was pouring out and it was really soft and collapsed.

I have never had a Financier before so I do not know if the inside is meant to be like that or whether is was not baked properly but I have sent an enquiry but no one has replied.
So if anyone has tried it before maybe they can tell me if it is meant to be like that.
As for the taste, the almond was really strong, tasting like marzipan, the pistachio taste was not strong enough and the cherries were nice and tart.

Went back for the triple eggs and roast pork, however they ran out of roast pork on both occaisions so chose the luncheon ham and ham on the other visit.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
luncheon ham and triple eggs:

The luncheon ham was really oily and still soft.
The eggs were as good as the first visit, the lovely egg yolk tasted delicious with the rice and soy sauce while part of the egg yolk was slightly sticky and starchy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ham and triple eggs:

Compared to the luncheon meat, the ham was not that filling.
