Stumbled upon this restaurant on the way to Ole's Spanish restaurant so decided to come here instead.
When I arrived, the waiters obviously had the impression I was just venturing up there to have a look but when they were nicer when they realized that I was genuinely going to dine there.
It seems that photos are not appreciated so I am just going to write about the drink.

Virgin apple pie:
The Virgin apple pie drink which was a nice mix of apple juice, pineapple juice garnished with cinnamon.
It was refreshing and not too sweet and tasted evidently of just juice because the cinnamon did not come through.

Lettuce with deep vein thrombosis!!

Came here for desserts as a perfect ending to dinner because I don't like Chinese desserts.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Le Cube:

The cube was colourful and fruity with lovely layers in the middle which reminded me of a flag with the colours red, yellow and green.
It was light and not too sweet but the pistachio layer at the bottom was not strong enough but the taste of the raspberry layer on top was the most prominent.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Black and white mousse:

The mousse was rather rich but it was nice that it had black cherries in it to balance the heaviness of the mousse.

The place I wanted to go to was packed so randomly came here because I have not tried it.
You can choose 2 dish combinations or you can choose set meals.
The seating is cramped so you normally have to share tables with others.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet and sour fish:

The sauce obviously had a lot of colouring in it but it was not really sweet nor sour so it failed as sweet and sour sauce.
The fish was crispy, soft in the centre and not too salty.
Overall, it was ok, nothing spectacular about it.

[Review 3463] A wide variety of grilled delights @ 高木炭火鳥燒 Takagi Yakitori

Tried this cozy joint on Minden Avenue on a rainy day for grilled snacks.
There were so many different items which was why I chose these instead of the usual meats and grilled chicken.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
marinated baby hotaru squid:
Lovely marinated squids which would probably go well with sake.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
monkfish liver:

The livers were velvety and fresh without any fishy taste compared to other ones I have tried before.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
grilled oysters
The oysters were juicy enhanced by the freshly grounded black pepper that was sprinkled on it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
grilled mackerel:
The mackerel was a little dry but tasty and I loved the crispy grilled mackerel skin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
grilled mentaiko
The grilled mentaiko was quite salty which was nicely complimented by the salad on the side.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
grilled chicken livers
The grilled livers were velvety and rich covered in sweet glaze.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese rice balls:
These were my favourite, they were crispy with cheese in the middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
grilled Japanese cheese cake
The Japanese cheese cakes were grilled perfectly with gooey cheese in the middle which tasted like brie cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese pickle platter:
The pickle platter seemed interesting and it indeed it was.
My favourites were the burdock and the shallots which were sweet and refreshing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
quail eggs:

The quail eggs were fun to eat but I wish the yolk was runny.

[Review 3462] A nice environment for Vegetarian food @ 膳德福素食

G/F, 120 Fa Yuen Street, Mong Kok
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/a-nice-environment-for-vegetarian-food-e2372367

This restaurant has been around for ages but I never noticed it because 99% of the reviews were in Chinese.
I came here because of Silverthought's review.
As the restaurant is located in Mong Kok, I had no expectations especially the service because you don't get the best of services in Kowloon.
I was utterly surprised by how friendly the waitors were even though the restaurant was extremely busy and most vegetarian places I go to are so rude.

They placed a teapot and a glass bowl on the table which meant it needed rinsing!
(bugger!!!)
The menu was good with English, Chinese and pictures.
While I was amused with the word MEAT spelt MEET, it must have been fate because someone had to share a table with me and she started talking to me hence I met a new Vegetarian friend.

We happened to order the same crab rolls too.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soft shell crab rolls:
These soft shell crab rolls were huge, but they kept falling apart when I ate them.
The sauce on top was a bit too sweet for my liking.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lamb skewers in satay sauce:
Tried these before at NamKeeH, basically the same stuff made of mushroom stalks.
The satays and sauce were a bit too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Although the food could have been better, the environment was certainly really good which made up for it.

[Review 3461] My first and last meal at Delicatessen Corner @ 假日美食店 Delicatessen Corner

I have always wanted to try this place after seeing reviews on the veal with roesti but I don't often dine in Kowloon.
For that price, I would rather dine in Central.
The decor was quite nice but as usual the ambience is disturbed by loud locals.
After I ordered, a slice of bread and a pretzel were placed on my table.

The Pretzel was quite chewy and salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
【Zürcher Geschnetzeltes】:

It was basically veal cooked with mushrooms and cream, served on the side with a fried Potato Roesti.
The veal was tender just as expected but the creamy sauce got a bit sickly towards the end and the potato roesti was crispy with a soft centre.
It would be great if the roesti was not so salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I was quite surprised to find out that it is not open anymore despite dining there two months ago!!

[Review 3460] Udon in rich crab sauce @ 一碗一串 Donka

24/06/2014
一碗一串  Donka
中環士丹利街11號11樓
11/F, 11 Stanley Street, Central
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/udon-in-rich-crab-sauce-e2372057

Ever since GF recommended this place, I have always wanted to go but couldn't because they don't open on weekends and it is located on the 11th Floor which puts me off.

Basically any restaurant above the 1st floor will not be high on my priority list because I can't be bothered to wait for elevators going there and on the way out.

According to the reviews, the service is cha chaan teng style at fine dining price.

I got there at an odd hour, so there were no customers throughout my meal.

The service was reasonable because they were not busy, but the staff were rather noisy because they had trouble with their phone so they kept shouting to whoever was on the other end.

The decor was simple and reasonably comfortable.

The menu had Japanese and Chinese fusion dishes starting at $98.

I chose the udon in crab sauce as planned.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Udon with crab sauce:

The udon was nicer than anticipated because they served the thin Inaiwa type which was extremely al-dente.
It was richly covered in orange crab sauce which was enough to finish the whole bowl of udon, but I found it a bit too salty and there was quite a fair bit of grounded pork fat, other than that, I loved the chunks of crab which did not have any annoying bits of crab shell.
There was vinegar too which was supposed to enhance the taste but I found it too sweet to do any good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

The udon was $148 but with the 10% on top, it came to a whopping $16X which was rather pricey for a bowl of udon which does not include a starter or soup.

It came with a drink but the choice could have been better because for Japanese and Chinese fusion I would have expected a choice for Japanese tea but it was only the local chachaanteng choices ie lemon tea, HK style tea or Coffee which I don't drink.
