I was quite surprised that Maxim’s have launched the Victoria Cake because it is not their style to have English cakes.

A Victoria cake is also known as the Victoria sandwich or Victoria Sponge cake is basically two layers of sponge cake with raspberry/strawberry jam and whipped double cream or vanilla cream in the middle.
The top of the cake is decorated and dusted with icing sugar.

The one at Maxim’s doesn’t quite look like a Victoria cake because it is topped with berries and these berries are probably there to make it worth $80 (small)/$148 (large).

Frankly $80 is overpriced and in general ALL bakeries in Hong Kong are overpriced.
You can get Victoria cakes for around HKD$20-40 in the UK and the high-end cakes are still cheaper than Hong Kong.

There were two Victoria cakes, a chocolate version and a Vanilla version but to be honest, there is no such thing as a Chocolate Victoria cake although it may be a modern thing.

Anyway, I didn’t have any expectations because most of their cakes are local style but I tried both anyway.

Vanilla Victoria Cake:

Pretty good with decent cream but the jam was in the middle and not evenly distributed.
The sponge cake was light and fluffy.

I would have given top marks for this cake if it wasn’t for the silly strawberries on top and the stupid biscuit base.

Chocolate Victoria Cake:

Evidently a delicious Black Forest cake filled with delicious cherries in the middle which tastes better than their so-called Black Forest cakes that they sell!

Apart from Lola’s icepops, this is also my favourite because they taste natrual and I have been here more than three times since they opened earlier this summer.

They offer juice based ones, gelato based ones, yoghurt based ones and ice scramble.

The yoghurt ones have a softer bite and the juice ones have an icy bite.

Icelicious is the only place that I will ever eat an orange icelolly because it is not artificial and it is made with real orange juice.
I was really happy such a basic flavour could taste nice and it had pieces of red grapefruit in it.

My next favourite is the melon scramble which is hard to describe, it is sweet, creamy and icy with a viscous texture.

The cheesecase is also cool because there are lots of berries in it which you can see.

The apple yoghurt was also good with real slices of apple in it.

Basically I love this place because it is delicious and affordable.

The Trifle is the best English dessert which is a layer of jelly with fruits at the bottom, topped with sponge, custard and then cream.
I loved this Rhubarb version which replaces the fruit jelly because the rhubard has a tart taste which goes well with the custard and cream.

There are not many places that do Pon De Rings.
Anyway, I got the Christmas edition from A-1 Bakery.
Unfortunately, it was a bit too oily otherwise it would have been perfect because the texture was chewy and the icing was just right.

Discovered this fishball joint when I was walking on the footbridge to Hung Hom.
Basically they sell Chiuchow style white fishballs plain or with curry sauce.
I tried the plain, plain with chili oil and fishballs with curry sauce.
The plain were the best because I don't like the sweet curry sauce.
Not my cup of tea but no complaints because there were no bones but there was MSG.
The fishballs had a springy texture with a sweet fishy taste.

Discovered on Facebook that they have a new vegetarian Spinach Quesadilla so I got it for dinner.
Although it is vegetarian, the FULL portion is enough for three people to share.
The quesadilla was delicious and loaded with spinach and cheese which went nicely with the guacamole, salsa and sour cream.

I do like desserts but most of the desserts in HK are too sweet but strangely the desserts in the UK are not that sweet and I can end up eating two sugar doughnuts in one go.
Anyway, I had the purple sweet potato pancakes which have mini purple sweet potatoes on it, topped with red beans and purple potato cream.

I nearly missed this on the menu because it was right on the corner.
I loved it because I didn’t really want icecream and cream is the best thing because it won’t make the pancake taste sweeter.
The thickness was really good while the pancake was fluffy and the carmelized sweet potatoes were sweet so it gave some sweetness to the pancakes.
There was a side of syrup but I didn't need it.
