I didn’t really notice this bakery until these triangle things caught my eye.
Then I was drawn to these purple potato cakes above them which cost $3 each or $7 for three so decided to get three.
Luckily they tasted good and the casing on the outside was flaky and the appearance is basically the same as Wife cakes but filled with purple sweet potato.
There was a weird stickyness when you ate it and a slight astringent mouthfeel after eating them but it is interesting to see these old shops staying in the trend.

[Review 4996] Another authentic Indian option in Sai Wan Ho @ 咖喱煲 New Curry Pot
27/01/2016
咖喱煲 New Curry Pot
西灣河海寧街10號地舖
G/F, 10 Hoi Ning Street, Sai Wan Ho
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/another-authentic-indian-option-in-sai-wan-ho-e2538061
Saw this listed on OR which got me interested because the name reminded me of The curry pot in Wanchai which did yummy buffets for lunch but closed down.
Anyway, this joint is located in SaiWanHo so it is a bit far fetched and the MTR is annoying because it takes me twice as long to get to the road level compared to other MTR stations.
Finally made it and the staffs there were pretty friendly.
Had the mushroom korma which was really good and the curry was spiced just right with lots of chunky slices of mushroom in the curry.
They also give you hot water on a cold day which is really thoughtful of them.

The Chinese pudding here is worth trying because there is a modern twist to it which makes it less boring.
They also have turnip pudding as well.
I got the Raspberry, basil seed and red bean pudding which is the most convenient Chinese New Year pudding because it is READY TO EAT!
It had nice layers of red beans, basil seeds and raspberry jelly which tasted really good because I love raspberries while the basil seeds gave it some crunch complemented by the starchy red beans.
I think this pudding goes well served with cream or strawberries.

I was in the area for dinner so decided to try the sandwiches here because the name sounded interesting.

It is called Under Vacuum because most of the stuff is slow cooked where food is cooked in vacuum sealed pouches immersed in water.
I was greedy and tried the slow cooked beef steak with cheese and the smoked salmon with egg.

slow cooked beef steak with cheese:
1 讚好
The steak was good as expected, it was lean and soft yet there was a decent beef taste to it complimented by the black pepper.
There was also cheese in it but next time I request for it without because I don't eat processed cheese slices.
++++++++++
smoked salmon with egg:
The smoked salmon was good because there was delicate egg in between but I didn't really enjoy it as well as I could have because it was difficult eating it on the benches because you are more focused on holding the sandwich so that the egg doesn't fall over the place.
I also found the dressing that went with the lettuce too strong and sweet that it overpowered the egg and salmon.
++++++++++
Anyway, hope I will be back in the area soon for another beef sandwiche and short ribs.

[Review 4993] Pork and sesame sauce riceroll @ 鴻福堂 Hung Fook Tong

Previously tried the black pepper beef riceroll which was too spicy.
This time tried the pork and sesame sauce riceroll.
When I took the roll out, it was quite smelly because it had been heated with other stuff hence the plastic was quite greasy.
Anyway, the pork riceroll tasted quite nice and it was not too sweet.

Lobster roll debuts in Shau Kei Wan

Seafood Stand first started as a small shop in TST serving seafood and now they have expanded to Hung Hom and Shau Kei Wan where they have more seating.

The first time I tried Seafood Stand I had fried fish, which was delicious.
As Hung Hom is far fetched, I went to the Shau Kei Wan branch, which is really close to the MTR exit for the lobster roll.
I went alone because I thought it was going to be a tiny lobster roll but I was wrong!! It was about 2-3 times bigger than the ones I normally get. But saying that I have yet to try Lobster Central, Mama burger and lobster and this other Lobster place on Landale Street.
Overall, the quality of the seafood here is really good.

For drinks I had the Caribbean passion which had a nice fizz containing orange, pineapple, coconut, yoghurt and strawberry with a fluffy foamcap on top mimicking beer.
++++++++++++
Lobster Roll:
The lobster roll was huge.
Although the lobster was the star of the show, the bun was equally as good because it was soft and fluffy with a delicately crisp surface, which satisfied my bread cravings.
I was impressed with the dressing because it was thick mayonnaise with egg, which goes well with the lobster and bread, and not they did not use silly salad cream or other weird sweet mayonnaise.
As for the lobster it was springy.
++++++++++++
Fish and Chips:
This is not the usual fish that they serve but it was moist and chunky.
If only there was vinegar and my fish and chips would have been on the moon because the batter was perfect and the chips were tasty.
++++++++++++
Seafood spaghetti:
The SCAMPI on top was the best, it was sweet and delicate because its taste and texture is a bit like Spanish red prawns but the taste is not as strong compared to that.
Not many places serve scampi so I was so glad I ordered this.
The pasta was ok but all I could taste was ketchup and it was quite sweet.

I can’t really eat spicy food but I have begun liking Sichuan food because Sichuan peppercorns have a really fragrant smell and taste.
New Bashu Taste is located on Lockhart road in competition with a few crab specialists nearby.
When you dine there, they give you tea and appetizers which are charged.

The menu doesn’t seem to be the whole menu because there are some off menu items or Special items that I heard mainlanders ask for.
In the end, I went for the Fuqi feipian, Mapo Tofu and steamed fish head with two different chilis.
++++++++
Fuqi feipian 夫妻肺片:

According to Wiki, there is a story behind this which you can google if you have time.
Basically it is marinated beef offal such as lungs and beef tongue etc.
The taste was ok but compared to other restaurants, the texture was not soft enough.
++++++++
Mapo Tofu:
This is different to the cantonese version because it has my favourite black beans and it is sprinkled with Sichuan peppercorns
++++++++
Steamed fish head with two different chilies:
The fish head was huge so I was really happy because the head part is always delicate so the bigger the better which means I get bigger chunks of silky fish and gelatinous bones!
++++++++
I had rice as well because I need carbohydrates but the rice was too hard for my liking otherwise the meal would have been perfect.
They gave me some rice from the ricecooker which was much better so I was quite happy because if I don't eat rice/pasta/bread/potatoes for dinner I still feel hungry.
The bill was quite expensive but the fish was worth it.
