In love with the new sweet potato cheese quarter
2016-11-19  1162 瀏覽
Found out from openrice that there was a new purple potato cheese quarter at Guschlbauer so decided to get it.

Since it has not been officially launched, you have to spend over $100 on bakery and then you can get it for $30.

Went there the next day but most of the bakery was sold out so went again a day later and there so many choices.

Before we talk about the star of the show, the European selection was impressive and bigger at this branch and you can order drinks and dine there too.

Apple and cinnamon bread:

The ones I picked were the Baby avocado (bun filled with creamy avocado).

It was really good because the avocado was moist and rich like butter and there a hint of green tea in it because there is green tea in it as well. The mint oreo chocolate is another must for me because I just love it.
You could smell the mint as well as taste it.

Other bakery products that they do:
Last but not least, the delicious sweet potato cheese quarter!!

This was amazing, it was pretty because the black and purple looks visually good and it tasted divine.

There was so much cream cheese in the five layers with pieces of real sweet potato in it too.

The best thing was that it was not too sweet but it is quite fattening because of the cream cheese

So far I think this is the best flavour in the cheese quarter series.
Will try the melon soon.

[Review 5574] Dinner followed by bowling @ Beach Bums & Cannibals

Previously dined at the Bar at Tikitiki so this time tried this new place called Beach Bums & Cannibals.
Parents were back and they were watching the boring Chinese opera in SK so my bro and I went bowling here which was nearby the opera thing.
After that we went here for dinner because the name sounded funky and cool like the Caribbean but the food menu was more upscale than we imagined.
We were surprised to learn that the Chef Peter Lim used to work at the Four seasons hotel.
My brother who speaks zilch Chinese was made at home because the guy at the restaurant is from UK as well.
Here was what we had:

Started with bread and it was fantastic especially the white rolls with butter.

My brother had the seared beef carpaccio which was colourfully complimented by artichoke hearts, edible flowers and cheese.
The beef carpaccio had a nice saltiness to it and it was wafer thin.

I had the foie gras which was paired with a lovely sweet muscat dessert wine.

For mains, we had the Jumbo crab meat linguini in cream of capsicum sauce decorated with lotus root chips.
The sauce was lovely and creamy and there were huge sweet chunks of crab meat.
The other main we had was grilled duck breast (300g) on a bed of garlicky quinoa served with asparagus and cherry sauce.
The duck was meaty but tender and the cherry sauce livened it up.
To finish off, we had poached pear in wine which was infused with a strong wine taste yet it was very sweet in flavour too.
The chocolate was lovely and rich drizzled with a thick chocolate sauce on top.

The wines that we had.

I can't wait to come back again because they are doing a buffet as well and I don't think there are many buffets in SK at the moment.
A good place to go when you are trapped in SK and want to get away from the crowd.

Unfortunately I was in SK again so went here for dessert.

Had the grass jelly in vanilla sauce as usual.
It tasted ok but the sauce wasn't too icy this time.

Getting expensive

I used to like dining here because it was affordable and the stuff they serve is inexpensive to import.

Now the prices have gone up but you are being served the same stuff so it becomes expensive to eat something that was once cheap.

I was a bit disappointed because there are not many choices and they have stopped the roast chicken.
My favourite has to be the prawns, they are firm and springy, easy to peel and natrually sweet bursting with roe.

I am so glad I can get the MTR to Whampoa now because it used to be a no go area.
There are so many eateries to try.
Tried Modos which is currently on trial operations and I feel that the waffles can be improved because they do not taste or look anything like the ones I had in CWB.
The colour is a lot paler and the texture is too light and brittle that it breaks with pressure and clearly the waffle base is not the same as the CWB one because after it is heated the structure is different and does not have capillaries.
Photo of the waffle at CWB.
The colour and structure is different.
