If my friend wasn't recovering from food poisoning, we would have ordered spicy dishes.Anyway, the golden prawns had to be ordered because they were so damn good especially with a bowl of plain rice.
When they arrived, you could smell that fragrant salty egg yolk, and the colour was orange and captivating.
The saltiness was just right so I hope they keep it consistent as I will be back for this dish.
Had the Sichuan dan dan noodles which are always good in a peanut broth along with Sichuan spices.
The stir fried bean thread noodles were soft and springy complemented by the pickled veggies.
My friend had the chilled noodles which were quite sweet with a strong sesame sauce.
I am not a fan of desserts but the mini dumplings in osmanthus and fermented rice soup was good.
The ginger dessert soup was good for my friend's sick stomach! hahaaha`

Singmalay Treats for Tea Time
2018-04-21 891 瀏覽
[Cafe Malacca] located at Hotel Jen is a popular place for Singaporeans and Malaysians to hang out because you get the real deal there.
They are now serving Singapore and Malaysian Treats during Tea Time so it was a good opportunity for me to try all these treats which I have not tried before, these treats are also on the A la Carte menu so next time I know what to order.
Starting with the Savouries, there is Pie Tee, Chwee Kueh, Murtakbak and Curry Puff, moving on to the sweets, there are Kuih Dadar, Kaya Toast and Durian Pudding which comes with Kopi-O or Teh Tarik for $288 with an extra 10% service charge.
All the savouries were equally good but my favourite had to be the Chwee Kueh which is like savoury rice pudding topped with preserved radish and sambal sauce.
It was my first time trying the Murtakbak and it tasted like a stuffed square puff pastry balanced by the pickles on top.
Moving on to the sweets, the creamy durian pudding was amazing and the kaya toasts are always my favourite because I love pandan, just like the Kuih Dadar pandan crepe rolls filled with coconut.
To finish off, the Kopi-O and Teh Tarik were a perfect ending.
I am so glad I tried this and the Tea Set is great way of sampling these Singmalay delights if you are new to it!

Cauldrons also spelt Caldrons were found in the medieval times when people believed in Witches.
When I heard about this place, it aroused my interest as I thought it was going to be one of those themed restaurants/cafes but it turns out to be a Taiwanese Hotpot place.
It is located in TST so there are now two Taiwanese style hotpots.
On the menu, there are eight different hotpots and the LUNCH DEAL is really good because you can add $12 to get the Braised Meat Sauce Rice or the Sesame Onion Salted Fish Sauce Rice.
The Sesame Onion Salted Fish Sauce Rice is a must because it was so damn good, it was hot fluffy rice topped with finely diced crisp but sweet onions topped and minced salted fish that isn't too salty.

The Braised Meat Sauce Rice tasted better than anticipated because it was not sweet like other restaurants in Hong Kong and there was a fragrant shitaake mushroom taste.
For the hotpots, it was really difficult choosing one so ended up getting the spicy one and the house special.
I ordered the house special because it had my fave fermented tofu, duck blood and pork blood cake.
The glass vermicelli tasted really delicious as it absorbed the broth.
The Taiwanese spicy hot pot was also good because of the Sichuan style broth.
I really liked the cute dumplings in the spicy pot.
Finished with the drinks which were $8 extra for each.
The plant tea is not made of plant but topped with black biscuit crumbs aka soil hence the name.
It was nice and creamy topped with salted cream cap on top and the tea tasted like earl grey.
Hopefully the food is consistently good on the next visit as I do intend to come back for the rice.

Discovered this joint a while ago but it was closed on Sunday so went back on a weekday.
The menu is simplistic with six choices.
C2 with slow cooked chicken was definitely the choice for me.
It has Broccoli puree, cauliflower puree, chicken breast, celeriac, leek core, chia seeds and mixed grain rice with
complementary cinnamon and ginger orange tea.
I chose this because I love cauliflower and broccoli and they were both pureed which is comforting as it tastes like baby food which I eat as well.
I was really impressed when the food came, even though it was in a box, you could see that it was fresh.
There was no browning on the edges of the celeriac and leek cores which are tell tale signs of vegetables that have been cut for a while.
The portion was big enough to satisfy my hunger as it wasn't those bird portions for girls who pretend to eat.
As well as the portion, the taste was fantastic as the celeriac and leek core bits gave the puree flavour while giving it a fine presentation along with the chia seeds and paprika powder.
I was really lucky to try some of A1 which was the Shrimp Potato Shredded Fruit Salad.
To my surprise, I thought it was Salad paired with yoghurt to finish as a dessert but the yoghurt is actually the sauce for the salad made with Taros!!
It was consistently good as the chicken, again, you can see the ingredients are fresh, colourful and tasty.
After adding the taro yoghurt, the taste was even better and the taro sauce also went well with the chicken breast.
The taro yoghurt was not the usual yoghurt as I imagined but non dairy and made of taro and their secret vinaigrette.
Finished with the pumpkin soup which was very smooth and natrual without any other flavourings.
Overall, I was more than impressed because the food was fresh and delicious and it is good the way they have thoght about presentation and the play of colours to make it colourful as well healthy.
I hope the chicken stays on the menu because I will be back.

There is something fishy about these noodles

Went here with a friend who wanted to try this place.

Before I went, I took a look at the photos and deduced that it was a noodle shop but I couldn't find work out what sort of noodles they serve because they looked white but didn't look like rice noodles or Yunnan noodles.
When I got there, discovered that this restaurant serves FISH NOODLES ( noodles made of fish).
This makes it quite unique because the only time I ever encounter fish noodles are hotpots where you squeeze these pouches for fish noodles.
To my amazement, there are two types of fish noodles: fish noodles and craft fish noodles.
The difference is the texture and amount of fish in it, the fish noodles has 70% fish meat while the craft fish noodles has 50%.
Started with nachos, something I never imagined!~
[Nachos On The Boat] is basically crispy fish skin topped with cheese, meat sauce and guacamole.
It was a fun combination to eat and I love fish skins especially with guacamole or mayonnaise.

All noodles come with three appetizers: cherry tomatoes which are sweet and punchy, beancurd sheets in a creamy seaweed sauce and their homemade chili sauce.
+++++++++++++
[Fish roe paired with fish dumplings served with craft fish noodle]:
The noodles were very creamy as they used mentaiko so it was like an Asian version of carbonara.
As a fan of Sichuan noodles, the [Roasted Australian M7 Wagyu Craft Noodle] was one of my favourites.
It was topped with thinly sliced beef which were lean and juicy.
Last but not least was the [Crispy Twinnie Roe] in broth which is made with 70% fish meat.
The texture reminded me of konjac noodles as they were very springy but it was like eating strands and strands of fishballs.
The good thing is, that you end up consuming a lot of fish in one go!
The crispy fish rolls were damn good because they were really crispy and tasty.
There are two different ones, pure fish and fish with cuttlefish pieces.
Personally I liked the one with cuttlefish.
Overall, I was quite impressed with these noodles because they were boneless and didn't have any bad fishiness in them.
The decor is clean and modern which is rare in MK and the best thing is that it is on the 1st floor so you can always take the stairs up/down.
Finished with the hot and cold fruit teas which were not too sweet.

Normally I get the loose ones but I couldn't be bothered to choose that day.
I like the way how they have improved the sushi boxes, there is an area to put soy sauce and wasabi.
There is a warning on the labelling to be careful of small bones so they've got their arzes covered!
The base of the box now has ridges which prevents the sushi from moving around when you carry it.
As for the taste, the salmon was fresh so there was not much complaints.

Veggi Monster has lured me here again.
Since my last visit, there are so many new burgers so it was really hard choosing as each burger was unique.
There was a new kimchi burger as well.
In the end I had the Peking Duck!
Everything was in harmony, from the usual duck sauce, cucumbers and the vegi patty.
The Flame Rex was also damn good because I loved the Sichuan flavours so it was very satisfying but to truly satisfy my hunger, I always eat two burgers on every visit!
The advantage with veggie burgers is that they taste good at any temperature, the taste does not change muchbut for meat burgers, the texture and coating changes.
