After trying the Singmalay Tea treats, I almost missed a stylish Happy Hour if I didn't see this glam poster on the way out.

I have to admit, I was lured back by the digital promotion near the concierge.
At the Lobby Bar Counter, there were these beautiful ceramic Qipao figurine jars.

There are four signature cocktails to wow you!!

I tried the Beer Milkshake while my friend had the China Lady:
The Beer Milkshake was a fun concoction of Chocolate Ice Cream, Porter, Milk, cream, chocolate sauce and topped with an Oreo.

The China lady was very feminine and Oriental with Chinese liquers like Shochu, Plum Wine, Lemon Juice, Maple syrup, Pasteurized Egg White and and Cucumber.

I definitely enjoyed my girly time here and can't wait to come back to try the Pina-Kale Ada and Singapore Sling!!

Discovered this place after eating at a joint nearby because of the lovely aroma.
Finally went there to try it as it was featured on some newspaper.

Cute hooks in the form of chairs:

Started off with the noodles.
There are two types of noodles, the egg noodles or Guizhou noodles which are white and thick.
++++
Guizhou Boiled Beef Rice Noodles:
Tried the broth first and it was really rich as it was boiled with lots of bones.
The noodles hung the broth well and these thick noodles were soft and springy.
As well as beef, you will find pickled vegetables which have a lovely crunch as well as a balanced sweet and sour taste that go really well with the soup making it less oily.

++++
Hot Kuding Tea:
For drinks, I had the signature Kuding tea which was sweetened just right with a slight bitter aftertaste.
It was really soothing and said to help digestion.

+++++
Finished with this pretty Guizhou Rose Jelly that was packed with sesame and rose petals.
Definitely the dessert to finish with especially if you had the spicy noodles.

Will be back for the other noodles!

As a Tea lover, I have always wanted to try the tea at Cha Long. There was a pop up booth at Hysan but I just never made it.

Anyway, finally got my oolong tea.
There are three different types, normally I get the Highland Oolong but I was recommended the Roasted Oolong for a stronger flavour.
Unfortunately the tea flavour wasn't strong so I hope to try the Highland oolong next time to compare  with my regular tea joint.
Luckily, the drink came with a bag because the contents seem to leak.

Got these parsnips from Eat East, all the water content has been drawn out hence they are a bit dehydrated when you re heat them in the microwave.
The taste was sweet but the texture is slightly woody, so next time when I get these frozen products, I will probably let it thaw and then heat it in the microwave for 1 minute.

If my friend wasn't recovering from food poisoning, we would have ordered spicy dishes.Anyway, the golden prawns had to be ordered because they were so damn good especially with a bowl of plain rice.
When they arrived, you could smell that fragrant salty egg yolk, and the colour was orange and captivating.
The saltiness was just right so I hope they keep it consistent as I will be back for this dish.
Had the Sichuan dan dan noodles which are always good in a peanut broth along with Sichuan spices.
The stir fried bean thread noodles were soft and springy complemented by the pickled veggies.
My friend had the chilled noodles which were quite sweet with a strong sesame sauce.
I am not a fan of desserts but the mini dumplings in osmanthus and fermented rice soup was good.
The ginger dessert soup was good for my friend's sick stomach! hahaaha`

Singmalay Treats for Tea Time

[Cafe Malacca] located at Hotel Jen is a popular place for Singaporeans and Malaysians to hang out because you get the real deal there.
They are now serving Singapore and Malaysian Treats during Tea Time so it was a good opportunity for me to try all these treats which I have not tried before, these treats are also on the A la Carte menu so next time I know what to order.
Starting with the Savouries, there is Pie Tee, Chwee Kueh, Murtakbak and Curry Puff, moving on to the sweets, there are Kuih Dadar, Kaya Toast and Durian Pudding which comes with Kopi-O or Teh Tarik for $288 with an extra 10% service charge.
All the savouries were equally good but my favourite had to be the Chwee Kueh which is like savoury rice pudding topped with preserved radish and sambal sauce.

It was my first time trying the Murtakbak and it tasted like a stuffed square puff pastry balanced by the pickles on top.

Moving on to the sweets, the creamy durian pudding was amazing and the kaya toasts are always my favourite because I love pandan, just like the Kuih Dadar pandan crepe rolls filled with coconut.

To finish off, the Kopi-O and Teh Tarik were a perfect ending.

I am so glad I tried this and the Tea Set is great way of sampling these Singmalay delights if you are new to it!

Eating from a Cauldron!!

Cauldrons also spelt Caldrons were found in the medieval times when people believed in Witches.
When I heard about this place, it aroused my interest as I thought it was going to be one of those themed restaurants/cafes but it turns out to be a Taiwanese Hotpot place.
It is located in TST so there are now two Taiwanese style hotpots.

On the menu, there are eight different hotpots and the LUNCH DEAL is really good because you can add $12 to get the Braised Meat Sauce Rice or the Sesame Onion Salted Fish Sauce Rice.
The Sesame Onion Salted Fish Sauce Rice is a must because it was so damn good, it was hot fluffy rice topped with finely diced crisp but sweet onions topped and minced salted fish that isn't too salty.

The Braised Meat Sauce Rice tasted better than anticipated because it was not sweet like other restaurants in Hong Kong and there was a fragrant shitaake mushroom taste.

For the hotpots, it was really difficult choosing one so ended up getting the spicy one and the house special.

I ordered the house special because it had my fave fermented tofu, duck blood and pork blood cake.
The glass vermicelli tasted really delicious as it absorbed the broth.

The Taiwanese spicy hot pot was also good because of the Sichuan style broth.

I really liked the cute dumplings in the spicy pot.

Finished with the drinks which were $8 extra for each.
The plant tea is not made of plant but topped with black biscuit crumbs aka soil hence the name.
It was nice and creamy topped with salted cream cap on top and the tea tasted like earl grey.

Hopefully the food is consistently good on the next visit as I do intend to come back for the rice.
