Another hot dog shop in the same spot!!
2018-05-25  367 瀏覽
6 years ago, there used to be a Hot dog joint right at this spot called Juicy J's, then some Kebab shop took over, then this Asian snack shop and now this!!!
Hot Dog is the main thing here but I was actually excited about the #4 pea cup because all I could think was mushy peas or just plain peas because I love peas.
The funny thing was, when I got there I bumped into the previous kebab owner and his friend getting a hot dog.

Anyway, it was hard deciding between the chili con carne dog or the bacon because I love bacon but I wasn't sure what bacon they used but according to the breakfast dog photos, the bacon looked crispy and yum.
Decided to get the chili con carne [#2 Spicy Hotted], not sure why it is called hotted but that is what the menu says.

It was a friggin hot day for hot dog but luckily the frank was warm and the sauce was warm so I didn't have to wait for it to cool down or burn myself.
Overall, it was quite tasty topped with meat sauce and kidney beans but it definitely wasn't chili con carne as it wasn't spicy and didn't contain the spices like cumin, paprika or marjoram. It was just plain meat sauce with tomato and kidney beans however the frankfurter made up for the spiciness as it was spicy.
Saying that, I want to come back for the classic dog as they have the ketchup and mustard and I heard it has onions in it too. I also want to try the peas as well and the cheesey ham balls!!

[Review 6575] Addictive hotpot @ 養心殿台式養生鍋

I am not really a fan of hotpots but this one was good, it reminded me of Little Fat Sheep when there were less choices in those days.
The reason I liked it was the broth and it was the key to everything.
However I didn't like the compulsory charge for the sauces because not everyone uses it and if you need sauce, it means the food is tasteless.
Anyway, had the dual pot, the Deluxe Chinese Medicine Broth and the Spicy Hotpot.
Tried the broth first and the Medicinal one was so damn good as the herbs were really strong.
The Spicy one was not as spicy as expected but it came with my favourite Frozen tofu and ducks blood.
For the hot pot, had a few things, we decided to try the assorted dumplings.
My personal favourites were the Sichuan Beef and the White Water snowflake dumplings.
The Signature Hand Cut beef was worth ordering as it was soft and not too fatty.
So were the Japanese Oysters which had a strong taste of the tea.
Initially I thought the transportation to WE GO Mall was crap but then I found a 286M bus from Diamond Hill station that stops right at the ground floor entrance of that mall.

Healthy Hotpot

Went here with a friend to check out this new hotpot place which used to be some other Sichuan restaurant.
When we arrived, we were greeted with this huge ceramic dragon, on the left was this animated image which was actually powered by a fan.
Inside, there are mini cans of oil which are used for dipping the food on each table and neatly stacked by the window.

Started with some spicy chicken feet and crispy pork.
The Salt and Pepper Sweetcorn was really addictive as the sweetcorn was split into four vertically which made it really easy to eat for people with small gobs!

We had two broths, one signature spicy broth and the non spicy herb broth.
Before we ordered anything for the pot, the guy kept recommending the meat balls and saying how good they were.So we got some Celtuce slices, Premium beef, meat balls and the Ferris Wheel.
The Ferris Wheel was a real working one because when I took one of the carriages out, it started moving due to the weight imbalance!!

The guy didn't brag about the meat balls as they turned out tasty.
The reason they were good was that it was made of mostly grounded pure meat which you can taste otherwise the texture would be bouncy.
So far so good!
The next exciting thing was the fish gas bladders which I have always wanted to try as not many places serve them puffed up.

I loved the stickiness and you really do need to tug it as it was very elastic to withstand the pressures beneath the sea!! The only thing you have to becareful are the random sharp bone fragments.
Duck's blood is becoming popular these days and the texture of the duck's blood was like tofu which disintegrates in your mouth as it is really delicate.
It definitely tastes better placed in the spicy broth.

Overall, I was really satisfied with the hotpot as everything was tasty and didn't need the condiments.
The way I eat spicy hotpot is use the non spicy broth to blanch it first and then a few drops of the spicy broth to make it tasty so that I can control how spicy it is.
On the way home, I noticed that I was not feeling thirsty after the hotpot.

Vegan menu at Loyal Dining

Since my last visit to Loyal Dining, they have launched a Green Menu that serves Beyond Meat Burgers and there is also a Half Priced Steak Night.
I am a fan of Beyond Meat burgers and currently on a quest to try all these different places that serve it and see which place makes it taste the best!
As we were a large group, we had both meat and vegetarian dishes.
Started with the Signature Loyal Chicken Wings simmered in their home made sweet soy sauce.
Each wing was tasty and soft fully infused with the sweet soy sauce.
Now to the new VEGAN stars of Loyal Dining, the Beyond Meat burger!!!
There are three burgers to choose from: Original, Sichuan or Scallion Oil.
It was really difficult to pick a favourite as both were so good but different.
The Sichuan one had the Sichuan flare to it but it was a bit too salty.

I would probably say the Scallion Oil was better because the combination was interesting and strangely went really well as scallion oil is normally paired with chicken.

Look at all that yummy Scallion Oil!

I was really impressed they even had Sorrowful Rice in Vegetarian form.
The vegan char siu had that freshly roasted char siu taste and aroma as it was slightly crispy on the edges.

Beef Wellington 66 is the signature dish here and one of my classic faves because it is British!
Here they use quality beef and the puff pastry is good.
The 66 signifies Loyal Dining's old address at 66 Wellington Street before they moved!
I miss that location as I used to go there for dimsum and went there with friends from UK.

Next we had the vegetable curry souffle which was interesting.
Basically vegetable curry topped with souffle!

Now for the real dessert, it was Ovaltine Souffle which was fluffy and sweet infused with Ovaltine!

I really like the new menu and hope it stays forever!
I'll be back!

Cart Noodle shrine in SSP

As well as ricerolls and liver noodles, Man Kee Cart Noodles is another food shrine in Shamshuipo for food worshippers.
There are always crowds and crowds of people at both branches.
Finally motivated myself to try on a winters day when there were less people.
You basically order by circling the items you want on the wipeable menu. One of the toppings I was looking forward to was the braised pomelo skin as not many Cart Noodle joints offer it.
There were so many sauces on the table and the seating was like a ramen bar but you are in Shamshuipo eating Hong Kong style cart Noodles!Everything was tasty enough so the condiments were not really needed but the lychee vinegar and White pepper got my curiosity as I don't often see it around.

The noodles were as good as expected because the broth was strong and every topping was tasty in different ways.
The fishballs had a nice fruit peel taste to them and the pomelo skin was mushy and flavourful. Will go again if I am in the area and provided that there isn't a queue or a short one.

Great Thai getaway at Queen's Kitchen

Queen's Kitchen is a great getaway in TST.
It is located on one of the top floors with a great view of TST especially when the skies are clear.
The decor is grand with elegant crystal chandeliers which makes it a great place for gatherings and events.
For drinks, I had the pandan tea because I just love Pandan!!
Also had the beautiful butterfly tea.
Started with the Thai Peppery spicy Vegetable soup with shrimp served in a traditional clay pot.
I loved it because it was really savoury infused with herbs loaded with loofah and other vegetables.
Next was the  [Thai Son in Law Eggs] which got me curious.
It turns out there is a story behind as this dish is made for the son in Law so that he knows he is treated well therefore he will treat his wife well in future.
I loved the sweet tamarind sauce and the texture of the egg white as the outer part is slightly chewy.
The prawn and pork toast was meaty and reminded of sesame prawn toasts that you get in UK.

This was the best Kailan dish I have had because the salted fish was amazing as it was gently salty with a good flavour, if only there was a bowl of rice.
Next was the Northern Thai Coconut Curry with chicken and crispy noodles.
I am so glad there is another place in HK for this dish as it is delish.
The noodles are in this sweet coconut sauce contrasted by the crispy noodles on top.

For the Thai Street beef cart noodles, the chili sauce they gave us really enhanced the noodles and I was elated as the chili sauce tasted like this chili sauce from some Asian place in the UK.

Finished with the pumpkin dessert which was delicious, creamy pumpkin pudding in a cooked pumpkin that is sliced into wedges served.
Definitely coming back again with friends.
