My first pan fried dumplings from CH

Cheung Hing is a famous joint for Pan Fried dumplings which have been recommended on the M guide.
I was surprised to see they had a cheesy one on the menu but it had been discontinued.

I was very impressed with my first experience because the base was crispy and the top was like a bubble which bounced when you poked it.

The meat was fresh and inside there was so much soup which you have to becareful.
The right way of eating it is to drink the soup first but knowing I would burn myself I decided to let it all out and save it last.

Sadly, the quality is different at every branch but I do plan to come here again and see if it was as good as this visit.
The prices are also different in each branch.
At MK they cost $30, here they cost $32 and in Central they cost $35 for the same thing.

[Review 6931] Fine dining with privacy @ Le q Cafe & Bar

Le q Cafe & Bar

"Le Q’ is quality, trendy, simple & consistent western cuisine as well as coffee, wine, coctails & liquor" according to their Facebook.
I have walked past it many times but I didn't realize the upstairs also belonged to Le Q.
On the ground floor, there is a trendy bar where you can order from the self service kiosk which makes them different to other bars.
On the dining floor, it is much nicer with privacy and the set dinners are not that expensive.

Had the set dinner:
Started with the Parma Ham, Spanish Ham with Figs and Salad as stated on the menu.
Some nice hams to start with.
The [Lobster and Scallop Risotto with Parmesan Cheese] was to my liking and there were chunks of lobster as well as scallops.
It was not too heavy or creamy.
For the mains, there was chicken or beef so we had one each.
[Chicken Roll]
The chicken roll was complemented with fragrant truffle.
[Pan Seared USDA Rib Eye]
The rib eye was juicy and tender paired with delicious root vegetables.
Finished with the [Tiramisu] which was light and creamy.
To be honest, I was more mesmerized by the whole building because it was converted from an old building and I love the views especially the balcony.
Will definitely come here again.

[Review 6930] Souffle pancake @ 東海堂 Arome Bake + Drink

Souffle pancakes are trending at the moment so decided to try the one by arome cafe.
Sadly, they didn't have strawberries so got the banana.
$58  is not the cheapest in Hong Kong but about mid range.
When it came, it looked like a souffle pancake but the weirdest thing was that butter was given which I did not use.

The souffle pancake was horrible and the worst I have ever eaten.
The texture was simply like thick shaving cream with a metallic aroma from the metal pan.
It was laced with butter from the mixture which just didn't taste right and after eating one spoonful my stomach was bloated.
The only thing that tasted normal was the softserve and caramelized bananas.

After trying two chiffon cakes in the series, I was hooked but some are good and some not.
This time got the chestnut.
It was filled with starchy chestnut in the middle and topped with a whole chestnut on top.
The cake was not too sweet overall and the size makes it good for small celebrations.
I love the fact that there are so many flavours as there is a cake for everyone.

The Oyster House lives up to its name

Finally tried The Oyster House which has been around for years in Wanchai.
With a prime location in Wanchai and the fact that it has been here for a while, the food should be good and they also have another restaurant called CHIC in TST.

Oysters are a must try so ordered three different ones to try.
Personally I like strong tasting oysters.

The oysters we had were Yellow Stone, Spanish XL and French Sentinelle.
My favourites were the Spanish and French as the flavours were strong.
The Spanish was obviously the star of the show because of its size and it tasted good of course.
There were no shell fragments which is good even though this the most basic requirement as not all restaurants are able to serve shell free oysters.

Next was the Red Prawn topped with Uni.
Uni lovers will love this as the uni was silky and creamy, however I found it delicious eating it with the bread provided as I love bread!!
Pan Seared Japanese Hokkaido Scallops with wild mushrooms and bonito flakes:
The scallops were tender and flavoured by the smoky bonito flakes.

Linguine Vongole:
For carbs, the linguine was al dente but it was quite spicy.

Char Grilled Canadian Natrual pork chop:

I loved the pork chop as it was juicy with and not over seasoned.
Less is more in this case I could taste the fresh pork

Finished with the banoffee pie which was very satisfying because it was banana on a layer of caramel sauce and biscuit base with cream.
The whole thing put together was not too heavy or sweet so this is definitely worth ordering.

Will be back dinner especially for the oyster!!

Revisiting old Kowloon Bay and Camlux factory

Participated in a local tour by [程尋香港 Hide and Seek Tour] which started off at Kowloon Bay Station and ended at Camlux Hotel with afternoon tea included.
The tour conducted in Cantonese was very interesting and we found out more about the past of Kowloon Bay.
One of the old factories used to produce toys and Camlux hotel was a factory that made Camel Vacuum Flasks.
(Basically a Hong Kong version of Thermos).
Being a converted factory hotel, the rooms are spacious yet every corner of the building holds a hint of its former glory.
CAMLUX is the first hotel in Kowloon Bay!!!
Furnace

At every hotel room, there is information to tell you what the room was used for.

After touring the hotel, we had tea at Cafe 15.

On each table, there is a Camel flask with coffee in it included with the tea set.
In the tea set, there were scones, sandwich, cookies etc.
Surprisingly the chocolate cheese pizza was quite good as well as the savoury items.
Will be back for dinner and see the food fares!

[Review 6926] Dinner with a view @ Notte

Basically all restaurants in this building have a great view.
Went here to celebrate a friends birthday.
Had the 6 course dinner for $688.
Started with some bread:
The first appetizer was Japanese Top grade Abalone which was served on juicy Daikon.

Next was the Pan seared Hokkaido Scallop which was complimented with silky sweetcorn puree.
It was colorfully arranged with lettuce and ham.

Moved on to the mushroom clear soup which was light and comforting.

The wild mushroom & black truffle slice pasta was wonderful as they used fresh thin egg pasta which hung all the flavour and sauce.

For mains, had the pan seared slowed cooked Iberico pork which was simply juicy and tender.

Dessert finished perfectly with my favourite Tiramisu.
