Baked out at Bakeout

Went past this new shop a couple of times but I hesitated in trying it because I thought they would have more bakery items because the menu offered mainly hot dogs.
With  a name like that I was expecting bread and other bakery items just like Bake Out in UK.
Anyway, tried it as I needed to eat something.

Although they specialize in hot dogs, all them of were too fancy and seemed to be messy to eat so I went for the fish.
Got the set meal willingly because they had Earl Grey Tea, had it been Hongkie style tea I wouldn't drink it.
The set meals come with a drink, fries/Japanese Bacon and Spinach Croquette.

The fish was quite good and they were generous with the tartar sauce but it was rather heavy and too sweet.
The fish filets were nicely coated with herbs that you can you see and it was good that the lettuce was thinly sliced so that the texture didn't steal the show from the fish.

The other one I wanted to try was the salad bun but unfortunately I was too full.
I was just curious if they used salad cream or mayonnaise.
The fries were unexpectedly good as they were still starchy in the middle and not overly crunchy.

The croquette was ok however the fries stole the show this time.
It was good the oil was fresh as the fried stuff didn't have an old oil taste and they were perfectly golden and blonde!
[Strangely, HKers have a different definition of blonde......when they see dark brown hair they call it gold].

After we finished, one of the staff came out to stick a notice on the window to say that all their bread was sold out.

It was then that I realized those buns were freshly baked , hence the name BAKE OUT, but they were BAKED OUT that afternoon!!!!
Although I like their menu, I wish they would have something simple like bun with Jam so that I can taste their fresh bread better.
Overall, it was good and finishing with tea is just perfect.
Hope to see some more bakery items on the menu later.

[Shanghai Lao Lao] Hairy crab season is here
2018-10-29  496 瀏覽
Hairy crab season this year started off for me with Hairy Crab Roe dishes from 上海姥姥 Shanghai Lao Lao.
There are so many branches in Hong Kong.

I was captivated by the new menu.
As I was in Causeway Bay the other day, I went there with friends and we had other dishes as well.
++++++++
Marinated chicken in hua diao wine:
Started with the classic Marinated chicken in hua diao wine, delicious chicken infused with wine.
I always order this so that I can use the wine to compliment other dishes.
++++++++
Preserved egg in Sichuan style:

This one was my favourite because the Sichuan paste goes well with the preserved egg.
++++++++
Spicy Tribute Vegetables:

The vegetables were crisp but the garlic is quite strong so be warned if you have a meeting afterwards as you will have a garlic breath!.
++++++++
Wok fried rice cake with Hairy Crab Roe:
 0 讚好

I am so glad I chose this as the rice cakes were chewy but soft enough for my liking.
The hairy crab roe was so good with the rice cakes that this could be the best pairing.
There was also Chinese cabbage in this dish so I didn't have to order the Chinese cabbage with crab roe.
++++++++
Assorted Mushrooms wrapped in Crispy Bean Curd Sheet with Hairy Crab Roe:

 0 讚好

This had to be the star of the show, the dish that was advertised on the poster, it was crispy with juicy mushrooms in the middle served with a generous pile of crab roe to compliment it.
++++++++
Scrambled Egg White with Hairy Crab Roe:
 0 讚好

Another classic dish was the scrambled egg white covered in an abundance of crab roe, great with rice.
++++++++
Steamed Pork Dumplings with Hairy Crab Roe:

 0 讚好

The pork dumplings are a must in Shanghai cuisine and these were bursting with rich crab roe and pork in the middle.
This is where the wine came in to play because it tastes so good with huadiao wine added to it.
++++++++
Panfried red bean pancake:

Dessert ended with a sweet touch with this crispy red bean pancake.
++++++
Finished with the warming Fresh Lemonade with Ginger and Honey and the Chrysanthemum tea with Wolfberries and Honey.

++++++++
Will probably go again for the rice cakes.

A restaurant that stands out

I was attracted here because of the colourful letters.
The menu in the evening was interesting as they serve dishes from all of the world.
It was tough deciding what to order as I was choosing between the Brazilian Rice and the Lamb.
Although I didn't try the rice I would recommend it as you can't really find this in any other restaurants.
I was also glad they had Peri Peri Chicken because I love Nandos.
Started with the poutine because I love chips and gravy.
The chips were fried to my liking ie not too crispy complemented by the short rib gravy and orange cheddar.
Next was the Agnello in Gremolada.
This was lamb rump which is a must try as it is hard to get lamb rump in Hong Kong and a nice change from lamb chops.
The lamb was tender and meaty just like beef and the crushed potatoes on the side were fab.

Will be back to try lunch.

Quite expensive

I haven't been to Delifrance for ages, firstly because there are less branches and secondly because it tastes localized.
Tried the potato gratin because I love potatoes.
It was a very small portion for $27 but luckily it tasted good as the potatoes were properly cooked all the way through with a crispy cheesy crust.
For the croque monsieur I didn't know they had half portions until I ordered so decided to get the half portion and it turned out to be half for $23!!!
It tasted nice but I wouldn't really say it was an authentic Croque Monsieur as it was soggy and covered with creamy sauce pretending to be cheese.

I would probably come back again for the potato gratin as it was delicious.

Halloween Pumpkin gelato at Petite House

Before going to dinner at Festival walk, discovered the Halloween gelato so got a sample to try and it was quite nice so came back after dinner.
In the cabinet, they had some interesting non alcoholic sangria but I wonder how they had been made and sitting there.
Anyway, I loved the gelato because the pumpkin taste was natrual and creamy but not too sweet.
In a way, it tasted like baby food in gelato form and I think I could taste bits of pumpkin in it.

[Review 6936] Texas in Mong Kok @ Texas Burger

Texas Burger

Shop 1A, 12/F, Langham Place, 8 Argyle Street, Mong Kok

Time flies and now there is a second branch of Texas in Kowloon. Technically this should be the third branch as there is another burger house in LCK by Texas burger.
Langham Place is a mess but luckily Texas Burger is located on the top floor so you just have to take three escalators to get there.
The watermelon pocket is an exclusive here so had to save room for dessert.
For food, had the Beyond Meat burger as it has become one of my favourites.
Then I had the Burrito on Mexican rice.
The burrito was so damn good because the of the filling, it had bbq chicken and delicious melted cheese in the middle.
It was topped with my favourite sour cream and guacamole.
Unfortunately, they were both rather filling so I didn't order two desserts including the caramel apple quesadilla.
Had the watermelon pocket and the portion was bigger than I imagined and good for two.
I appreciate the way how they have used chocolate chips for the watermelon seeds just to make it look more watermelon as the seeds in this watermelon are not black!
The softserve was watermelon flavour as well so the whole thing was in harmony.
Finished with tea and soda.
Berry Soda:

Peach and Passionfruit soda:
Definitely will be back soon for the caramel apple quesadilla!

Philippine Chinese Buns

I love going to WWH because it is similar to Chongqing mansions but they sell Philippine goods.
You can find DunkinDonuts there as well.

As well as Philippine foods, you will also find Chinese steamed buns Philippine style.
The packaging is impressive and modern.
There was a choice of roast pork or meatball in a plain or steamed taro bun by Eng Bee Tin.

Eng Bee Tin was established in 1912 on Ongpin Street by Chua Chiu Hong, a migrant from mainland China whose family decided to reside in the Philippines. The business started as a small stall selling Chinese delicacies.

The steamed bun is in a neat plastic pocket which keeps it clean while you don't get your hands dirty.
It is quite big in size and uniform so it is probably made by machine.

The ube pao was fluffy and the meat inside was quite tasty.

I hope to try the roast pork bun next time.
It might be pricey compared to local ones but the packaging and quality is much better.
