Walked past this joint many times but it was has been difficult to stop by for any joint along this road because the pavement is a narrow and annoying.
As it was hot today and I just couldn't be bothered to walk, stopped here for a drink.
Spotted the SIBERIAN CHAGA MUSHROOM which claims to lower cholesterol and blood sugar etc so decided to try it and see what it tastes like.
There is a Chaga mushroom in the cabinet which looks like a huge truffle!
The drink is served cold as it already made and stored in the fridge.
It basically tastes like your usual Chinese herbal tea but not so bitter and that's it.

Japanese mapo tofu

Another newish joint in town serving Japanese curries and other stuff.
Had the mapo tofu which was too sweet for my liking and the spiciness levels were too spicy.
You also get miso soup and an appetizer just to make it look like a Japanese set, both not that tasty or memorable like other restaurants.

I love Cheese melon tea but quality varies at different branches as the ratio of tea to cheese cap is different.
Since I have had bad experiences with the cheese cap at HT, I shall go without next time.
It seems there is a bigger proportion of the cheese cap lately so they can give you less tea and it really doesn't taste good.

Freshly made hummus at Kebab & Curry

Had a craving for hummus recently but couldn't get it.
Went to an Indian Kebab joint in Tinhau recently and they had hummus a la carte for HKD35.
Ordered it and the guy wouldn't let me order it a la carte which was strange as it was on the menu.

Anyway, as I was at the Star Ferry, discovered Kebab & Curry which should be different to the one at Central Pier.
They had hummus on the menu so I ordered plain hummus.

I was quite lucky because the guy had just finished blending a batch of hummus in the mixer hence I was getting a fresh hummus

The hummus was really good, it was thick with a touch of cumin and you could taste a bit of lemon and grounded chickpeas etc.

Tea is just Tea

Went past this several times but it was just the usual tea shop so didn't remember it.
One time I intended to try it but as they had just opened I couldn't be arsed to go in as there were lots of people.
The  other time I went was late in the evening so skipped it.
Finally went as it was nearby so just grabbed a plain oolong tea.
Got the large size and it was only HKD20 so pretty good.
It was nice and strong so it was a good thirst quencher and that was it.

Chinese dessert deconstructed and reimagined

Deconstructed Food is not new , it is breaking apart elements that are traditionally combined together to make a dish and serving the items in a uniquely separate way.
Traditional Chinese dessert is served in a bowl which takes a runny liquid form either hot or cold.
To be honest, I am not a fan of Chinese dessert because it is nothing quite like Western desserts where it takes the form of a cake or pudding.
The idea of putting liquid dessert in my mouth is rather strange because I would rather have it as a drink or thick milkshake.

At Eat Darling Eat, they have totally revolutionized Chinese dessert by deconstructing it and serving it a totally different way.

I do love dessert but I need to satisfy my hunger first so had the tofu puffs which are stuffed with cheese.
It wasn't a wild paring as tofu and cheese are often paired together but I think brie or feta would taste more wild than the cream cheese they used.
The taste was still good but it wasn't that cheesy which is safer for the general palette I guess.

For mains had the Squid & Salted Fish Darling-made Lemon Pasta.

The pasta just looked like ordinary fettuccine but it was surprisingly flavourful infused with the taste of squid.
It is quite tricky getting the flavour out of squid which meant it was fresh and the texture of the squid was just right as it was soft and gives in when you bite into it.
So overall, very tasty with squid and lemon.

Now to the Pineapple Bun which was the star of the show.
It certainly hit the spot for me as they replaced the boring bun with a choux which is much airy and lighter.
I liked it because choux beats that Chinese bun any day and I can't stand that weird butter crumb on top and even strange with a piece of butter/margarine in it.
The pineapple sorbet was sweet and beneath that there is some custard which tasted like yoghurt.
Adding the pineapple pieces on the side made it more refreshing.

For the other desserts tried the tongshui which is normally served in liquid form in a bowl that you drink with a spoon.
Again, in the West, desserts come in the form of cake or pudding and the only liquid thing would probably be custard.
Had the Lava Cake and Sweet Potato which are normally served in a bowl but it was served on plate.
The Lava Cake was the usual fondant but filled with Walnut paste that is normally served in liquid form.
The sweet potato cake was served with a jug of liquid which represents the Chinese sweet soup.
Overall I liked them both as they were presented in a Western form especially the sweet potato as there was a piece of cake in it.
Finished with the chestnut latte which was served in a cute bamboo cup.

Sushi delivered on a bullet train

Went here randomly as I was at MEGABOX.
When I sat down, I placed my belongings on the side as usual and waitress said you couldn't put stuff there as it was part of a rail.

To be honest, it was then that I discovered that the sushi was delivered by a mini bullet train and when it gets delivered the mini screen will alert you!
It is was quite fun to get your food delivered by the Japanese sushi train if you haven't experienced it before.
Obviously not new in Japan where it comes from and there must be tonnes over there.
Foodwise, there were hits and misses.
The salmon roe and scallops were really good but the uni was a bit gritty with a urine odour.
