A lucky experience
2019-04-14 49 瀏覽
To be honest, I don't feel blessed or lucky having Japanese food in Hong Kong as most of the food served is Hong Kong Style or sweetened.
Another important issue is the oil which has to be kept fresh for consistency.
I was captivated by the pork chop sando so decided to give Fukuro Station a try, it is near Garden Bakery.
It is a small joint but there is a table that can seat four people and 2 more people at the bar.
As well as sandos, they serve Tamagoyaki egg rolls and bentos.
For the bentos, there are a choice of sauces.
As I was having the pork sando, decided to get the fried chicken bento, oyster cutlet and a mini Tamagoyaki egg roll.
The pork sando looked surprising good when it arrived, the pork chop was thick and perfectly fried.
The pork chop was tender and moist complimented nicely by the crunch of the cabbage and flavourful sauces.
The fried chicken was golden brown which shows their frying skills and fresh oil.
The curry sauce and the chicken went well.
Again the oysters were flawless and just simply delicious with mayonnaise.
Egg lovers will love the Tamagoyaki egg rolls as it was tender and fluffy!
Finished with the cold brew Genmaicha which was the best genmaicha I have had because it wasn't roasted.

In general Okinawan sea salt icecream tastes good.
The ones I have tried are in tubs which are not as creamy as the softie version.
McDonald's are now serving it so decided to give it a try.

There are four to choose from, chocolate dipped, sea salt or sea salt with the original.
In my opinion, it didn't really need the chocolate as it tastes good on its own, and the lovely saltiness balances the sweetness and creaminess.

Will definitely get it again but without the chocolate.

Delicious fried Cod

As I was in the area, walked past the MS joint and was captivated by the fried cod which was only HKD.15
0 讚好
Other fried snacks:
Settled for the cod and squid stick with a drink.

The cod was as good as expected as the frying oil was fresh and it was decent cod in the middle with the skin attached which gives it a strong fish taste.
However, I didn't really like the squid and vegetable thing as it was a bit artificial in the sense that it probably only contained 5% squid in it.
The rest is just....The same theory as fish balls etc.

Definitely will be back for the cod.

[Review 7343] Rye Bread @ 聖安娜餅屋 Saint Honore Cake Shop

There are not many places that sell Rye Bread in Hong Kong.
St Honore now has it but as expected, it costs more than the average bread in their store
Got three packs to try.
It was was quite good they were sliced as I thought it was a bun inside as you can't really see from the packet.
The bread wasn't sweet by default, but it had raisins and walnuts in it which gave it some sweetness.
Although claiming to be Rye bread, it makes you wonder how much rye is actually in the bread.

Sanpokong is really gearing up in the food scene these days Thanks to more offices being nearby just like other industrial areas like Kwuntong, Kwaichung etc.A foodie friend got me this so I didn't have to trek into spk.
I really should go and visit as there are so many hip new cafes nearby.
Tried the yuzu chiffon which was soft and fluffy, not too sweet with a natrual yuzu taste.
There are other flavours too, so I recommend it if you are in the area.

Best beef sando in my opinion

The first SANDO I had was at Sunday's Groceries a few years ago where they put a runny egg inside.
Trending at the moment are these expensive Wagyu Sandos with the priciest from Wagyumafia.
Although I haven't tried Wagyumafia, I managed to try the one at PIQNIQ at H Queens.
The wagyu sando there was a bit too buttery for my liking in the sense the toast had too much butter.
Discovered SANDO.BA had a popup at PMQ Tastekitchen for a limited time so I was lucky I managed to go when they had it.
The menu was simple, clearly the sandos had to be tried.

There were different cuts of beef as well as IMPOSSIBLE MEAT.
Wagyu Sando was my firm choice but I would have wanted to try Impossible as well.
When the sando arrived, it was how I expected it to be.
The wagyu was red and moist, about 1 inch thick.
The bread was toasted just right in the sense it is still soft in the middle.
Comparing with other Wagyu Sandos, there are a variety of sauces that can be used.
Normally Teriyaki is used but this one was evidently tomato and I could smell onion in it as well.
It worked for me because I prefer tomato sauce over cloyingly sweet Japanese sauces and it wasn't smothered in butter either.
Funnily it smelt like McDonalds simplest Hamburger with just the onions and tomato ketchup.
As well as the sauce and bread, the wagyu was soft and meaty so it was the best Sando I had.
The bread used was from Garden Bakery which strangely tasted good as the stuff I usually get from the supermarket tastes crap unless I buy the continental type.
For sides had the lotus root chips which I thought were spicy even though they were not meant to be spicy.
The soba noodles were also good , they were topped with eggyolk shavings and karasumi which gives it a lovely fishy saltyness.

Back for the Frikandel
2019-04-11 79 瀏覽
I am always here for the Belgian Fries and Long Fries which are consistently good.
This time I was back for the Frikandel which I tried before at La cornet Belge (closed down).
There is another Dutch place called MOKUM in Central that serves Bitterballen, Frikandellen, Mexicanos and Kasas Soufles.
Tried the Frikandel there and it was quite salty so lets see if the frikandel here is good.
The modern frikandel is a long, firm, skinless, dark-coloured meat sausage which is usually eaten warm.
It is cooked by deep-frying it.
While I was waiting I decided to order the chicken nuggets as well but the lady recommended the Japanese Kaarage which is fried chicken.
I knew it was on the menu but I haven't really had any good Kaarage in Hong Kong as most Japanese food is not authentic.
Anyway, decided to give it a try.
The frikandel was served exactly the same as the photos, sliced in the middle, topped with onions, mayo and tomato sauce.
Definitely delicious compared to the salty one I had at La Belgie.

The Kaarage also blew my mind as the ones in Hong Kong are always salty and dry hence the reason I was hesitant in trying it.
It turned out very juicy and the coating was light.
After squeezing some lemon onto it, the taste was amazing.
So apart from the chips, these two are also worth recommending.
