Goodbye Mr. M
2019-05-05  190 瀏覽
I wasn't expecting this to be my first and last visit to Mr. M!
Anyway, this joint has been open for a year now but I only just found out as I was in the area recently for Cart Noodles.
Located in an Alleyway is Mr. M serving Scotch Eggs, Burgers and Fish Fingers and Chips.

On the counter was a Pop-Up Pirate where players take turns to insert plastic swords into slots.
The unlucky person who launches the pirate is eliminated.
I was tempted to play but it wouldn't be funny if the pirate landed in the frying vat as I had just ordered the Scotch Egg and Fish Fingers with Chips!!!!

[Fish Fingers and Chips]

I loved the chips which were flat and chunky, the Tartar Sauce they used was creamy with a little bit of tartness similar to the ones at McDonald's but not so acidic.
The Fish Fingers were ok but not as Fishy as Bird's Eye Fish Fingers.

Now to the star of the show [Scotch Egg]

Overall it tasted really good but I was concerned the bottom part was a bit pink so I asked because traditionally it is sausage meat/pork mince.
Found out that it was beef so they said pink is ok for beef which makes sense as beef tartare is eaten raw.
Hopefully someone will make a omnipork version soon so vegetarians can devour this as well.
Unfortunately it will be their last day this Saturday according to the guy.

Giving this a smile because they serve all my favourites but Tsuen Wan is a bit out of the way for expats.

The story of [Tomato Story] unfolds

This shop used to be Sooo Vegi and some pizza joint but sadly they both came to the end of the chapter.
Another new story unfolds with Tomato Story.

It is a vibrant cosy joint serving Tomato themed dishes.
The colours were in harmony which with the red orange cushions balanced perfectly by the Van Gogh inspired paintings.
As I went a while ago, the menu might be different as the story just begun.
It just wasn't tomato enough!!

On the menu was either rice, pasta.
The pasta comes in tomato broth whereas with the rice comes with curry.

Decided to go for a rice and the tea set, however the croissant was replaced with a Danish.

In terms of tomatoes I was expecting more, perhaps its just the beginning.
The drinks were good though, they had healthy bittermelon tea.
Anyway, I'm giving it a big SMILE as I am hoping for a great ending Tomato Ending and I love Wanchai.

[Mother's Day] Chantilly A La Rose

Although Mother's Day UK is in March, in other parts of the world it is in May.
For the coming mothers day on the 12th of May, Chez Shibata has this beautiful rose cake topped with real rose petals, edible water droplets and gold foil.
This cake appealed to me because it was fluffy cake in the middle with silky light Chantilly cream and strawberries.

If you love the simplicity of cake and cream with a sophisticated appearance then I would recommend this cake.

I love the Oriental decor and the best thing is the menu because the English is well translated.

Before we chose the hot pots, we nibbled on the crispy pork strips which were quite spicy.

For broths, there are quite a few to choose from so we had two non spicy ones as well as two spicy ones.
There was a plate of squid I thought which turned out to be the TRACHEA of a cow.
It was white in appearance, when cooked it was springy with a crunch but not much taste so it owes its flavour to the broth.

Another one of my favourites were the chicken testis,  the HuaDiao wine is served separate so it becomes an option but if you like the wine, I suggest pouring it in the bowl as soon as you get it so the wine will infuse into it.

Next was the cuttlefish mince in bamboo.
They were springy and bouncy.

Other offal parts and meat we had:

Finished with the brown sugar rice cakes which were chewy and glutinous.

Overall a fun night at Pier Story.

I am so glad there are two Green Common Delis, one at Kowloon Tong and the other one is here!
Last time had the tofu so this time got the omnipork with aubergine.
Both of these dishes are flavourful but the taste of the Aubergine was my favourite because it had lots of shimijei mushrooms with a touch of ginger as well as those brown fermented soy beans.

The aubergines were chunky and soft with lots of omnipork.
Overall it was affordable as it only cost me HKD28.

I am so glad that I was in KT recently as I hardly go there these days because there are too many people and supermarkets in Hong Kong do my head in as they didn't used to have the self check outs.
Now that supermarkets have these self check outs, I am more willing to go shopping these days however their system is still not as advanced as UK and other countries because reduced items or people paying with vouchers/discounts still have to go human manned tills.
All they have to do is stick a reduced barcode for people to scan but being HK, there is no trust.

Didn't take many photos of the counter as I didn't expect it to be listed.

Got the Mapo Tofu for HKD29.5 which is extremely reasonable made with omnipork, however they do not serve rice at that counter but you can get it at other counters at the supermarket.

It was quite impressive as the portion was big and there was quite a fair amount of ominpork in it.

Basically all the dishes are in the heated cabinet so you can see before you buy and eat it straight away as it is hot.
The taste of the mapo tofu was quite flavourful but the garlic and sweetness was quite prominent but overall delicious.

I was still hungry after dinner so got a bun from HFT.
There is chicken or pork so got the chicken.
The bun is quite big and fluffy filled with minced chicken.
Overall quite nice but quite sweet, the typical Chinese style steamed buns.
