Best Chinese almond drink and steak
2019-06-01 40 瀏覽
I was craving for beef lately so went here when I saw pictures of the Tenderloin.
Sam Chaan is located near Jordan which is away from the TST crowd.
Friend had the mixed steak while I had the tenderloin.
Both come with Borscht soup and toast with a choice of gravy.
The tenderloin was impressive, perhaps I was lucky that day as it was so big that it hid the fries behind it.
It was so good that there were no tendons found.
The steak was done just right, each bite was tender and moist.
I am so happy I got my beef cravings satisfied.
To finish, the almond drink was the best I have had as it was thick and creamy and not too sweet.
Definitely coming back.

Tried the MOS premium fish burger because it was new.
The fish burger has curry sauce in it.
The fish filet was a bit oily and overdone while the curry sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking.
Not worth trying.

There are lots of Sichuan Restaurants in TST but this one was close to the MTR station so went there as it was raining.Previously, this spot used to be Old Beijing so the decor is much the same but changed to a different style.
I liked their menu as it was digitalized so you can just tap what you want and submit.
The menu is available in English and Chinese with pictures.
Additional requests can be made:
Started with the dandan noodles which were rather fiery.
The noodles they use is very different as they were thinner and didn't stick together.
If I am not wrong, I believe they are mountain yam noodles (waisaanmin).
The next dish was the Shaoxing wine pigeon.
The main dish was the Sichuan fish maw and fish roe.
It delights me when I see this dish because it means they serve fresh fish in the poached Sichuan fish dish as this is where the fish roe and fish maw come from.
The fish roe was chunky and it has been fried so the coating is slightly crispy.
The fish maw was soft and gelatinous.
Overall, quite a nice place for Sichuan fare so I might be back for lunch.

[Review 7468] Top notch Chiuchow cuisine on Lockhart Road @ 鈺膳潮州私房菜 Yuk Cuisine

Times have changed!!!
What used to be a red light zone in Wanchai is now bustling with new eateries and restaurants.
I feel that I have to try every restaurant in Wanchai because I love this area,
There is something special about their menu because they offer these Chiuchow style patties where you can choose potatoes or taro!!
To me, I would describe them as Chiu Chow hash browns but their menu refers to them as cakes/dumplings.
As a carbs lover I got the TARO and POTATO.
Potato and dried shrimps patty:
The texture and taste is very different to hash brown in the sense that it was slightly chewy and crispy on the outside.
It was tasty as there were dried shrimps in it.
Taro Patty:
Again, the texture is similar to the potato one as it was chewy, however with the main ingredient being taro, it was slightly starchy but not dry.
Chicken with crispy leaves:
I was a little disappointed with this dish as it was a bit bland yet this is a common Chiuchow dish.
The ones I have tried before were tastier.
Bittermelon with spareribs and soy beans:
This dish was simple yet amazing because the bittermelon was soft and infused with pork.
The soybeans were delicious and I ended up drinking the broth as it wasn't too salty.

Flawless dinner at Casa Lisboa

It has been a while since I have been to Casa Lisboa.
Since my last visit, Casa Liboa has relocated to Wyndham Street.
We had the new menu that night and every dish was flawless.
First was the [Cozido Soup], which is a popular soup that you will find in every Portuguese home.
Just like Chinese soup, you will find lots of meat and vegetables which are eaten as well.
The chef has modernized it by wrapping the meat inside the cabbage parcel.
I really enjoyed the soup as it was smokey with the saltiness from the salami.
The next dish was the [Vegagna] which was a vegetable lasagna made with layers of courgettes filled with tomato and aubergine.
It had a nice hint of cumin which gave it a Mediterranean twist.
[Bone Marrow]
The bone marrow is definitely recommended because it is so different to the ones I have had.
There were lots of herbs in it and it tasted like Christmas Stuffing that goes with the Turkey.
Although it came with crispy slices, it tasted good with the bread on the table.
[Guinea Fowl Cabidela]
Traditionally, this dish is made with chicken blood but it has been modified with beer and morel mushrooms for a healthier approach.
The risotto was definitely delicious infused with flavours from the beer and morel mushrooms but being adventurous I would still love to try the recipe with chicken blood.
[Iberico Pork Chop with Apple Sauce]
Pork and apples always go well together in any cuisine so this dish was popular with all the guests.
[Short Ribs wiht Alheira Migas]
The ribs were visually flawless as you can see how lean and moist it was that it doesn't need much explanation.
The side of Alheira Migas was also the star of the show as it was beans with kale.
I found it really comforting because it tasted similar Mexican refried beans.
[Mango and Passion Fruit Burrata]
Finished with the burrata which looked like burrata!
It was fluffy sweet cream cheese shaped like a burrata drizzled in mango and passion fruit sauce.
Overall, I was impressed with meat dishes that they serve especially the ribs and risotto.

Went here a while ago and the food was disappointing.
The menu changed so they didn't have the chilled sago cream with avocado and chocolate which was served in 2017 according to a menu photo on openrice.
The choice of chicken was impressive, they had Crispy Salted Chicken and the Crispy Chicken.
We had the crispy salted chicken which was golden and crispy.
Normally I don't bother with Chinese chicken wings but you could see it was deep fried and uniformly crispy.
As expected it was crispy and salty.
The rest of the stuff was average especially the noodles which were bland but definitely very suitable for the elderly as the sodium levels were low.
It is probably better dining here in the evenings as the lunch dimsum menu is limited and there are not many options to choose from!

There are too many drinks joints these days so if I am thirsty and one is nearby it makes sense to try it.
Tried the Earl Grey which costs HKD17.
Had it sugar free and ice free.
The Earl grey flavour was quite strong and fragrant.
It wasn't too artificial so it was quite nice.

When I got it, it didn't look like this as it was full and bubbles and looked like it had milk in it so when I asked they said it was made by the machine hence the bubbles.
