All the celebrities were raving about this mooncake so I got a box too!
It contains a moon which is the captivating part!

A mooncake wouldn't be complete without a moon!
Inside the box are eight custard mooncakes with a runny centre.
To eat you have to reheat it in the microwave for a few seconds but in this hot weather I found the filling was runny without the need to even reheat it.

The filling was starchy and you could taste the bits of the egg yolk in it.
Overall, I was satisfied with these mooncakes and they were very memorable.

I love fish so went here for the fish!

They specialize in skewers, chicken pots, HK style tea and fish according to the Chinese on the signage.

Had the Sichuan fish.
The basic fish is 1xx but we had the leopard coral trout because I love this fish!

It was covered in coriander and purple onions submerged in Sichuan broth.

The fish needed some time to cook.
When it was ready, the fish was delicate and spicy which went well with rice.

Also tried the skewers and it was good the sauce was served separate.

The wings were my favourite.
Will be back as if I am in the area.

Top Quality Tonkatsu Since 1999

Tonkichi  has been around since 1999 or possibly before when the internet wasn't popular back then.
When I came to Hongkers, I was recommended this place by locals and even expats so it had reputation back then.
I remember coming here about 10 years ago before it got renovated but it is still impressive how it has managed to stay put at this exact spot since 1999.

Some good restaurants are forced to change location because the whole building has to be knocked down and redone but luckily WTC hasn't budged.
The only thing that I didn't like was how cramped the restaurant was and it was understaffed.
The first thing you will hear is the sounds of sesame being crushed.
As well as Tonkatsu I ordered some side dishes as back ups which were truly not needed because the quality of the food was clearly good which explains why it is still here.
It makes me curious if the other branches are as good but I am glad I went back to this branch where I dined 10 years ago.
Sadly I didn't remember much back then when as it was just a BBC gathering and my friends ordered.
It is served with unlimited cabbage and rice.
Both the pork and chicken were good, the frying oil was fresh and the crispy coating was like snow that it melted in your mouth.
The upper palate didn't feel sore afterwards which indicates how delicate the coating was.

Omnipork Curry

Went to Fairwood for Omnipork again, this time it was curry on the menu so I decided to try it.
HKD41 with table service and a drink that I could drink deemed worthy of trying.

The curry looked ok when it came.
I would describe it as four elements on the plate: red rice, curried omnipork, kidney beans and possibly frozen vegetables.

The curried omnipork was quite spicy but tasty and it was cooked with diced onions and it had these tiny white balls which looked like mustard seeds.
Anyway, the curry went nicely with the rice.
The vegetables and red beans were just vegetables as they were not cooked with curry so they just tasted like blanched frozen veggies!

Went here randomly so decided to try the skewers.
Ordered the chicken and I was tempted to order the tenderloin as well but apparently it isn't according to the Chinese verbal description so I stuck with the chicken.
They told me to order the striploin if I wanted better beef but I wasn't after striploin but tenderloin.
The chicken was tender thigh meat with an interesting vinegar taste.
It was not off but tasted like the Phillipine adobo which is cooked with vinegar.
Obviously I believe they were not meant to make it sour as Chinese people do not like sour foods so I asked if they put vinegar and they said it was OIL.
HMMM INTERESTING ANSWER.
I love my food conversations in Hong Kong, I really get some interesting answers.

Went here randomly as I was captivated by the musubis in the cabinet.
The menu had donburis, bentos, Drinks and desserts.
You will find train windows and models of trains.
There is a train drivers hat near the cashier.

For food, I had the black pasta.
It didn't really say what it was but the whole thing was quite sweet.
The black spaghetti had some crushed chalky stuff which I couldn't work out what it was but it wasn't sesame.
I was told it was peanut butter when I asked.
In the other boxes was a scallop, cream puff, a piece of sweet potato, tamago and Surimi which is imitation crab meat.
The Surimi was too sweet for my liking but the kelp made up for it.
Overall, a nice place to hang out in the afternoons.

Unique Chiu Chow delights

As I was crossing the road I spotted this obviously Chinese restaurant with a name Nine Kee so I took a closer look out of curiosity.

The stuff displayed at the window was the usual stuff ie duck and cold mullet.
Then I spotted this fried fish that looked like canned dace fish so I decided to go in and try it.
Found out that the fish was Cutlass fish which is a fish that looks like a long flat eel.
I've actually tried it before at a wet market restaurant that was a gem but closed down during renovation.
It was in soup form with radish and black pepper and it was just amazing but I doubt anyone has heard of because it is a fishermans soup drank by fishermans and their families.
Started off with the Chiuchow fried noodles (chiujauchauminseen) which is a must as not many places serve it.
A must try if you go during the day as it costs HKD96 at night.
The strands of noodles are super thin and it is tossed with spring onions, purple onions and pork.

It was nice and not too salty but the pork wasn't that fresh and there was a slight oil taste from the wok but still acceptable.
Next was the Cutlassfish (ngadaaiyu) which was chewy and crispy.
It was refried so it was hot.
The saltiness of this fish would go well with beer but I ordered plain congee which also went well.

The only complaint was that it was cut into pieces so the bone structure is damaged.
Will be back because the octopus tentacles looked good!
Overall good but a bit pricey!
