Quick place for tea

Basao tea was full so went here instead.

Didn't find the staff friendly upon entering as they just gave you the typical stares and looks like Chinese people do.
Ordered tea as I was thirsty .

The cups were not that clean so exchanged for a clean one.
The tea turned out quite nice and it was thirst quenching.
Overall a cozy place for drinks and once the staff have warmed up they were quite nice.

French donut

Discovered this French pastry joint [Le Dessert] when I was dining at [GoodBBQ] so decided to try it right afterwards.

The menu was simple: teas, pavlovas, French donuts and jar desserts.I am a donut person so their French donut was my target.
It was donut filled with vanilla custard cream and homemade strawberry purée which is totally my thing!
The texture of the donut was fluffy and soft just like the donuts in UK and the vanilla custard cream was light and runny.
The amount of strawberry puree was just right and it wasn't too sweet as a whole so I was extremely impressed.

They also have savoury donuts which they claim to be the first of it's kind but I don't agree with that because J.Co Donuts already have a savory donut.
However I reckon the quality and filling of the savoury donut would be better at Le Dessert.
Will definitely be back for another donut as it is really difficult to get good donuts in Hong Kong without going to Marks and Sparks.

Modern social medicine! The gin parlour

While death and being sick in Hong Kong is a taboo, Dr. Fern's Gin Parlour broke this taboo at the Landmark a few years ago.
Not familiar to HKers, I found the entrance very comforting as it was very similar to the Doctors place where I went as a child because I come from a Victorian seaside town.
There are two doors, both have frosted wired glass panes.
One says waiting room while the other is the Doctors room.

I doubt HKers could relate to the surroundings but it is definitely a brilliant hideout with a good variety of gins.
Inside you will find old fashioned furniture and decor which transport you back to the Victorian era.

Quite a lot has changed since the last visit, the staff are no longer wearing Doctor style white coats.

The drinks menu has more option as too:

Having fallen in love with Gin, I went for the Whitley Neill quince with Fever Tree Indian Tonic garnished with gin jelly, plum and apple.
I absolutely loved it because it was sweet as pie because of the Quince.
The gin jelly at the bottom was delicious and the thinly sliced plum slices skewer were infused with the drink.

Also had the fruit tea which was the best tea as it had real fruit so definitely no regrets ordering it.

Other drinks we had:
Ki No Bi Gin & Goldberg Yuzu Tonic.
The receipt could do with more humour though with diagnosis and prescriptions added to it and for fun you can try submitting it to your company account dept and see if they fall for it!

I have always wanted to try Five Guys milkshake but strangely they took their time with it.
It costs HKD55 which isn't cheap.

The MILKSHAKES are handspun vanilla milkshakes with or without whipped cream.
You can choose as many free mix-ins as you like according to their website.
The mix ins available are Bacon, Bananas, Cherries, Chocolate, Coffee, Malted Milk, Oreo Cookie Pieces,Peanut butter, Salted Caramel and Strawberries.

I chose 3 mix ins!
-Sweet Ghirardelli caramel with a savory kick
-Crispy, sweet applewood-smoked bacon chopped and mixed for a salty crunch in your shake
-Real, tart cherries.

While I was waiting, I could see the guy put real bacon in it.
It was really sweet as expected but I loved it especially the salty bacon crispy pieces
The cherry was prominent as well but I really regretted not adding the malt which is an American classic.

Anyway, looking forward to trying the K11 Musea branch.

Sorrowful rice 黯然銷魂飯 3.0
2019-09-03  737 瀏覽
Sorrowful rice 黯然銷魂飯 is a bowl of Cantonese barbecued pork, with an egg, on rice inspired by Stephen Chow’s 周星馳 1996 movie, The God of Cookery 食神.
Previously I tried version 2.0 ,  the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is the Pork oil which is said to be more aromatic as they use Roast Pork oil drippings.

Sorrowful rice 3.0 黯然銷魂飯 is served as a set meal.
Available from 16/9/2019-12/12/2019

A nice appetizer to begin the dinner with Prawn head coated in Salted Egg Yolk and Prawn tail tossed in preserved fruit peel.

Now to the star of the show!

To eat, you have to mix everything together especially the liquid yolk and the finely chopped onions underneath the roast pork so the sweetness of the onions come out and the creamy yolk lubricates the grains of rice.

[The eggs they use are Japanese Eggs and a special soy sauce which I wouldn't mind just pairing with plain rice because the soy sauce is that good.]

Every spoonful of rice was heaven because of the onions, egg yolk and the crisp egg white.
There was also some lard which brings out all the flavours.
Moving onto the pork, it was just sensational, the meat was lean but tender and I finally satisfied my roast pork craving with this huge piece of pork!!
They use pork collar butt which is the best cut and the the roast pork is served with this glistening almost translucent glaze that is too beautiful and mesmerizing to eat.
It was very satisfying because I prefer my roast meats intact and not cut!!

Dessert was Daihaongpao osthmanthus pudding and the rose and Chinese ham pastry.

Definitely looking forward to version 4.0!

Will we see funky stuff like beetroot coloured fried egg or soya sauce pearls???

Goose breast vs Goose leg

This place used to be some Taiwanese joint but not anymore. It is now a goose joint specializing in roasted goose.

The motto was interesting: GOOD FOOD IS GOOSE MOOD!

Other cute stuff:

As this place specializes in goose, how could I not order goose.
Leg is more expensive in Chinese terms because the meat is considered better which I do agree with but the chicken and ducks in HK are usually anorexic.
Anyway, tried the leg and breast to compare.

To be honest, I thought the breast was better and the fact that the goose here is anorexic the goose breast isn't as tough as you would expect.
It was good that I asked for it without the sauce as it can be quite oily or too sweet hence ruining the rice.
The goose leg was ok but anorexic as expected so it was bony with lots of skin.
I think the experience for the goose leg would have been better if it hadn't been chopped up.
Overall, in Hong Kong terms, the goose breast is a better choice as you are guaranteed some meat to eat.

To finish, had the salted lemon soda and I liked the way I was given a whole salted lemon that was intact!

Discovered that HFT were selling mooncakes by Handmade Bakery so decided to try them.
They didn't look appetizing but tried them anyway because sometimes the appearance and taste can be different.
When I opened the packet, there was a nasty rancid butter smell and it was rather dry inside.
