I love steamed fish
2019-01-13  17 瀏覽
Gathering cafe looked almost like any other bingsut (Chinese chaan teng) but I was wrong because they offer almost everything on the menu ranging from Chinese bakery, Stir Fry dishes, set meals and even Sichuan fare.

As well as MK, they have another branch in Kowloon Bay under a slightly different name.
The staff were quite friendly and I appreciate their high standards for cleanliness as she checked the bowls before they were used and the ones not worthy for use were rejected  into another pile.
I went for steamed fish which does not come with rice so I had to order rice separately.

The fish was steamed just right so the fish was still delicate and they did not put too much oil on it so that the fish taste was still there.
It was a nice cut and the scales had been properly removed.
My friend had the Hainan Chicken which was shockingly huge especially the bowl of rice and you get soup and vegetables as well.

The sauce you get is Thai Sweet Chili sauce, ginger puree and normal soy sauce.
However the turmeric rice was interesting as it was fried yellow rice with bits of egg in it.

Not sure what to make of it but they said it was turmeric rice.

Overall, I recommend the steamed fish and they had lemon chicken as well which I failed to see on the menu.

I love this joint as they specialize in Chicken. There are so many options on the menu but basically it revolves round the herbal broth or the wine broth.
I got the rice vermicelli in herbal chicken broth which had a brilliant herbal taste but lacked the taste of chicken so I always order the chicken broth and the herbal broth and then mix them together.

As well as rice vermicelli they have knife cut noodles as well.
The menu prices seem to differ on openrice so I wonder if the menu is different for lunch and dinner.
Will be back again.
The place is a bit grubby so be warned.

Basically everything is coconuts here, all their soups are served in a coconut!
My food took ages to come so I was wondering if they didn't have any spare coconut shells after discovering  a comment by the previous person on the comment card that they discovered something in their food.
Luckily mine was ok and you could feel their passion and pride with the food.
The soup was too sweet for my liking and the brown rice was rather heavy.
Also had the steamed buns which turned out quite cute.
One of them was shaped like a peanut which was filled with crushed peanuts in the middle.
The plain bun was just a plain bun.

Great place to hangout

Even though The Alchemist has been around since 2012 , it was my first time dining here.
It is located between Prince Edward and Sham Shui Po on a quiet street.
When you go in, it feels like you are not in Hong Kong as the decor and setting is totally different and the place is spacious with tables spaced out nicely.
The menu did not disappoint, there was so much choice for drinks and food that expats would love.
I had a real hard time deciding as there was  warm potato and seafood salad and conchiglie pasta on the menu but in the end I had the Tortilla with cheese and tomato salad.
It was definitely a great pairing of warm soft tortilla with cheese and tomato.
Also had the salmon sliders which came in a crispy black bun.
My Asian friend had the fried chicken curry which came as a huge portion with soup too.
For drinks, I fell for the kiwi cucumber yoghurt which reminded me of Indian Raita.
The taste was light and refreshing  so I was really glad I chose it.
Also had the oolong tea by Teapigs which did not fail to impress as the tea leaf flavour was strong and not grassy.
Will definitely come again as this place is a nice sanctuary in Kowloon.

Prince Bakery used to be everywhere but not anymore! There used to be a branch in Sheung Wan but their bakeries just didn't captivate me.
It only stands out at TiuKengLeng because there are no other options so you either have to go to well known brands like Arome Bakery, Saint Honore and Maxims etc.

As I was still hungry, I decided to try the cakes which costs $15.
I got the brown sugar chestnut roll and the strawberry cream cake.

Frankly, the strawberry one was over priced because it was just tiny.
The strawberry cream cake fared much better because the cake was light and the cream was fluffy.
The chestnut roll was too sweet and the cream in the middle was dense and waxy.

I discovered this restaurant exactly a year ago and at that time it wasn't even listed on openrice so updated OR with this restaurant. They only had bagels then but now they have so much more filling options such as the popular all day breakfast and they offer so many fancy teas for tea lovers.

The avocado and smoked salmon croissant/foccacia was appealing because I love avocado.
I decided to choose foccacia because I prefer bread more than a buttery croissant.

When it came, the foccacia was a bit different to what I had in mind because foccacias are normally sliced horizontally rather than vertically so the croissant would probably be a more filling option.
Anyway, avocado was really good because it was ripe and soft so it had a lovely creamy texture and taste which went well with the salmon.
The baby spinach leaves were good too drizzled with balsamic, a memorable salad other than boring lettuce or arrugula.
For the all day breakfast, it also came with foccacia so if I had known, I definitely would have chosen the croissant.
Anyway, the bacon was really good because it had a nice saltiness and smokey aroma to it.

Finished with two cakes which just looked delicious in the cabinet.
The hazelnut one is light and not too sweet.
 0 讚好

The chocolate one was sweeter but still good.

I liked the way both came with some whipped cream topped with caramel sauce.
For drinks, the teas were great because I just love teas.
The peach black tea was very fragrant while the Earl Grey tea was more versatile.

My friend had the homemade lemonade.

Will probably be back if I am in the area and it is encouraging to see the cafe doing well a year later.

Impressive crispy fish skins

Went here because this side of town is nice and quiet. The menu had noodles and rice but it was really difficult to decide because this place is famous for noodles but the rice was captivating as well as they had curry and beef tendons.
In the end, got the noodles.
The one tossed with xo sauce was really tasty with a spicy kick to it.

The other noodles with wontons was plain but the wontons were the star of the show.

The fish skin was surprisingly delicious because the fish skin were thin and crispy.
It had no rancid oil smell or taste and they were not a bit oily because I used my fingers to pick them up and they were oil free.
Anyway, I hope to come again and try the rices.

I have been looking forward to this restaurant since I saw all these different prawn dishes. As well as prawns, they serve other Taiwanese fare as well.
Ordered the chili and lime prawns because the pairing of chili and lime never fail.
The taste was fiery with a tangy lime flavour which had a Thai twist to it.

Next were healthy kale cooked with garlic and wolfberries.
They pretty much taste like Chinese kale but with more leafy parts.

As a stinky tofu lover, I ordered the spicy stinky tofu with blood jelly,
This was delicious with rice.

Also had the fried tofu which were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle.
The texture was like marshmallow.

Finished with the drink which was impressive because there was real juice in it and it didn't taste artificial.

Gourmet pasta in Prince Edward

Went here because Hami Harmony had this relaxed environment serving pasta dishes.
Looking at the menu, there were two interesting pastas on the menu with a Chinese twist.
蝦米粉 Hami Pasta is basically pasta made with 蝦米 (Chinese dried prawns pronounced har mae) the stuff you find in radish puddings.
The other was duck breast fettucine with salted egg yolk.
The fettucine was good and the lovely bits of salted egg yolk gave it a salty kick without being too strong while it was balanced with pieces of mushrooms, green and yellow courgettes.
It was good that the duck breast wasn't smoked because sometimes the smokey flavour can overpower the delicate flavours.
Finished with this heavenly Baileys Trifle.
On the bottom layer was this silky Bailey's flavoured mousse with a layer of thin pudding on top.
It was decorated with cream, rose petals and meringue pieces and a small shot of Baileys in the pipette.
All the layers blended together in harmony and I liked the way they balanced the sweetness with the meringue pieces.
Will return for tea.

This place has a lot of meat but there are non meat options and lunches are great too because it doesn't end until 6pm!!!Anyway for lunch I had the meatballs pasta which are made with Wagyu beef, the pasta was tangy in delicious tomato sauce.

We also shared a platter and I loved the beef tart and crispy beancurd roll filled with juicy prawns and asparagus.
The foie gras spring rolls were also good as well because the foie gras was fluffy and mousse like,

The beetroot and barley salad was impressive as it was light and healthy!

Finished with a lemon tart for dessert which was sweet and dreamy.

It was good they had proper tea and not HK style tea!

Since the last visit, they have some new truffle dumplings. So ordered the truffle dumplings and the matsuke dumplings.
Both were really good but I prefer the Matsuke because it has an earthy taste.
The truffle was also ok but not as outstanding as the Matsuke.
Also had the cabbage dumplings which were really tasty with lots of cabbage which a juicy crunch to it.
Finished with the golden preserved eggs which had a fair bit of runny yolk in it so it was delicious and rich.
