Last time I came, I didn’t try the stir-fried Jade noodles, today I finally tried it, it looks slightly different from the picture. The shredded egg omelette was stir-fried egg in the real thing.
The noodles were very moist, and the beanshoots, thinly shredded green peppers made it even more so.

Overall I liked it a lot, but the portion was small.
The only thing I felt that didn’t match was the smoked duck breast, it was not fresh because it was pre-cooked and imported.

I would have preferred it if they used proper meat Thai style rather than cooking noodles with non thai stuff.

As well as noodles had the chicken with rice, the chicken breast was very tender.
The rice was served in the shape of a pyramid.

[Review 747] No goose pimples for me!! @ 鹵八鵝店 Lo Pak Restaurant

Whenever I go for goose at this place, the locals always warn me that eating goose will result in acne attacks, well I have had it for a few consecutive days and it doesn’t happen to me!!
Although the thought of an acne attack sends goose pimples forming!

Same with fried food, without drinking their so-called “herbal tea” I do not get sore throats either, the only scientific reason I can think of is that the fried food hot, so it probably burns the throat resulting in a sore throat the next day.

My favourite dish here is the goose slices (sliced goose breast) with rice, it is pure meat, and the skin has also been removed.
I always request it without sauce, because it softens the rice, and the sauce is very oily and I wonder how long its been there after cooking the geese in it.
Instead I prefer the sauce from the bags, it is much more concentrated and less greasy.

The goose slices are rich, but also depends which part they slice it from, one of is much nicer without the artery running through it.
As well as goose, I also tried the liver, very big in size too.

Although the food is good, I think the locals have a better digestive system than me, because the hygiene of roast meats in Hong Kong isn’t that good. They are usually left by the window, and sometimes there are flies.

[Review 746] I want my more shopping space! @ Marks & Spencer Food Store

So glad they opened Marks and Spencer’s at Wan Chai, a perfect location, in Causeway bay there is City super to compete with and in Admiralty it is too close to central.
It is located conveniently where Oliver’s sandwiches used to be, a busy spot where international people pass by to get to the exhibition centres.

I was surprised at the speed it was opened.

Anyway, glad to find my local treats there, although I couldn’t find my chicken liver pate.
It was hard shopping there, as with all chinese places, it is very tiny and cramped.
I wish there was space space space!!!

There was too many people milling about, so I just grabbed two drinks, pineapple with lime and apple with strawberry and rhubarb.
Both were very citrus and tangy.

My future shopping list!
Custard
Victoria sponge cake (in the uk it comes as a whole cake rather than a tiny slice!)
Quiches
Cocktail sausages
Scotch eggs
Crunchy bacon

[Review 745] Triple cheese beef bowl, weird but nice @ 吉野家 Yoshinoya

Yoshinoya’s new range has something that is interesting, the series they had before were basically a combination of the existing items.
They have used cheese as a topping, I have never seen them serve anything with cheese at Yoshinoya, so this must be the first.

However this dish is slightly weird, cheese is usually grilled or put on top of pasta.
I think I find it hard to accept cheese with yoshinoya beef as the beef is already in sauce, so the whole thing is quite moist and wet and the cheese gets a bit soggy.

The rice was served with triple cheese, Parmesan, cheddar and mozzarella, I felt that if it was plain cheddar, it would have tasted nicer. The Parmesan and mozzarella were tasteless and made the texture stringy.
I was expecting lots of cheese as shown on the product picture, in the real case, I think it was only a third.

In general, it tasted ok, but only cheddar would have given it justice.

[Review 744] Pacific Coffees mille-feuille @ Pacific Coffee

Its impressive that Pacific Coffee is now offering a wider range of cakes than before, some are delectable and some are not.
Their mille-feuille does not resemble one even though it is called mille-feuille. There is too much chocolate on it, there are two slices of flakey pastry with custard cream in the middle, which is the closest resemblance I can find.
Overall, if you treat it as a chocolate cake, then it’s ok.

[Review 743] Sweetness inconsistencies @ Gong Cha 貢茶 (灣仔)

Tried drinks from this branch and the one in Causeway and found that asking 50% strength in sweetness from both places, the taste is inconsistent in both branches.
The strength of sweetness at Wan Chai is not as sweet as Causeway Bay, I felt that Wan Chai’s 75% strength was equivalent to causeway bay’s 50% strength.

Drinks bought from this place: Green tea with red beans and toasted rice, Earl Grey milk tea with brown sugar jelly, Lemon with Wintermelon tea.

Green tea with red beans and toasted rice: The toasted rice was really nice, similar to eating rice crispie’s breakfast but not sweet, and the toasted aroma balanced out the green tea’s grassyness.

Earl Grey: This was the most disappointing, because there was no earl grey flavour at all, it just tasted like the tea you would get in any Chinese café, basically hongkie styled tea!

Lemon with Wintermelon tea: This was overly sweet, and it was made from concentrated lemon jam, so the drink tasted stronger than I would have liked. I was expecting a delicate light tea with wintermelon taste and slight hints of lemon.

[Review 742] Spotty jellyfish @ 再興燒臘飯店 Joy Hing Roasted Meat

Finally found a place with spotty jellyfish so tried it, they are literal softer than the usual ones.
The jellyfish was mixed with a crunchy melody of julienne carrots, celery and cucumber in sesame sauce.
The sesame sauce is not very heavy.

Apart from jellyfish, also tried the chicken liver, it was oven cooked to dark colour, and the side were crunchy and inside it was velvety smooth.
