I came here especially for Froyo, not because of the recent popularity in Froyo, but the cute Mini profiteroles toppings.
I wonder if the size of these are smaller or the ones at Clover are smaller?
They were so cute, each profiterole has a chocolate base, and the mini profiteroles in the display jar had a white base.
It costs $30 per cup, and there is a choice of mango or original froyo, with a free topping and a choice of sauce.
The choice of toppings include: fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries, rainbow meringues, mini proferiteroles, cocoa powder, hazelbut cookie curmble, palmier crumble, oatmeal cookie crumble, millefeuile, almond, hazelnut, liquid filled boba, mochi.
As for the sauces they had: chocolate, caramel, creme brulee, peach and pineapple, but unfortunately they didnt have creme brulee on the day I went.
The funny thing was, I ordered the mini profiteroles as stated on the choice list, but they didnt know what they were until I pointed to it on the choice list, and after some mumbling between the staff, they said "ar mini puffs ar".
Anyway the mini profiteroles were really cute, it would be so cool, if those tiny things were pre-filled with froyo, just like cream filled profiteroles.
Apart from the Froyo, the Jasmine mini cake was also quite pretty, it has glittery gel on the top, which I am intrigued to know what those glistening particles are.

[Review 887] Roast @ 大家樂 Café de Coral

Its always a headache going to Café coral for food, the menu is very confusing and hard to order, and the stuff is a bit too local for me.
You just don’t know what to expect with local food, in the end I picked the simplest dish I could find, chicken leg with rice.
When I ordered, there was a confusion that it may be a piece of fried chicken, in the end it was chicken marinated in soy sauce and roasted.
It was presented a like a western roast served with gravy.
There were French beans on the side for decoration, the rice was too soft and the grains of rice not that distinct.
The chicken was a bit tough, hard and dry for a chicken leg, and the best thing of the dish was the gravy.

[Review 886] French toast with corned beef and syrup!!! @ 金裝燉奶佬餐廳 Daniel's Restaurant

I wasn’t very hungry so I decided to order a Toast with corned beef, assuming it would be bread with corned beef and toasted.
There were two choices with corned beef, one was toasted bun with corned beef and cheese, and the other was toast.
After placing my order, a small jug of syrup was placed on my table.
Then I realised it was that weird Chinese toast where they dip the bread in egg and fry it.
I have always thought it was a weird snack, because egg is meant to be savoury, and the syrup is sweet.
Anyway, this one strikes me as totally weird, especially since it had salty corned beef in the middle, but luckily the syrup was served separately.
When it came, it just looked like those ordinary chinese toasts fried to golden yellow.
Without the syrup, it tasted ok, slightly savoury with corned beef filling inside.
I requested for some ketchup and dipped it in that, and it tasted quite nice, at least it matched.
If it was proper Heinz ketchup, it would taste nicer, the Chinese ketchup is slightly too sweet for me, I might as well of used syrup.
Interesting french toasts that could be made:
French toast filled with chicken served with satay sauce, French toast filled with British sausages served with baked beans, French toast filled with red beans served with green tea ice-cream.

[Review 885] Singmalay part 23 @ 好時沙嗲 Good Satay

With the recent hype of two new popular Singaporean eateries 1) Mandarin Chicken bar in TST 2) Hainan shaoye in CWB, I decided to visit the long standing "Good Satay" in TST.
In the earlier days, this was a popular pick along with Katong.
It was so hard trying to find this restaurant, but after looking at the map, it was located behind CEO.
The restaurant is located in an ancient mall that looks like the ones you see in old HK movies.
The restaurant is not a big restaurant to be exact, its like a few rented rooms next to each other with three to four dining tables inside.
I was searching the menu for the satays, but I couldn’t find it.
Menu cover
The satays were illustrated so nicely on the front cover, that I thought it was the menu cover. There was chicken, beef and pork, so I ordered chicken and beef.
For the mains, I ordered the chicken with rice, and a Laksa. I wasn’t sure which type of vermicelli they use so I asked if it was the thin type or the usual type, the lady who took my order was kind enough to show me a strand, so I ordered the Laksa.
While waiting for the food to arrive, I noticed they had a motto on the yellow table sheet, there were four lines with the rough translated meaning:
Good Satay poem!
Satay packed with flavours
Unique chicken rice
Native laksa
Wonderful curry
I had already ordered 3 of those 4 items.
The satay was the first to arrive, instead of the chicken and beef that was ordered, it was chicken and pork, but I was too lazy to ask them to change it.
Surprisingly, the pork was tender, same with the chicken, both were full of flavours and didn’t really require the peanut sauce. The pork was better than I expected, it didn’t have that smelly pork taste.
The peanut sauce was ok, but slightly sour. So according to their motto, I suppose it is fair to say it is packed with flavours.
Next to arrive was the chicken, as soon as it arrived, it reminded me of the chicken I had at the Satay Inn at North Point, especially the soup, as it contained shredded vegetables in it.
The ground ginger sauce was interesting, it was green and tasted very nice, the soy sauce was thick and black with tiny aniseed balls in it. The chicken rice was unique as claimed in their motto, unique because of the soup and the soy sauce.
Missing Laksa leaves, as shown on sum OR pics
The laksa soup was extremely thick, the colour of the soup was mustard yellow, as well as vermicelli, it contained beanshoots, beancurd puffs, cuttlefish balls and fishball slices.
The laksa was not spicy, and surprisingly the vermicelli was flavoured by the soup, although there was a weird smell in it though. Overall I felt the laksa was more Malaysian than Singpore, and I was rather disappointed there weren’t any laksa leaves in the noodles, as photos show on Openrice.
It was not spicy at all and the taste was sweeter than the laksa's I have had before, I thought it was more Malaysian than Singaporean.
Overall, the food here is reasonable, and the price is ok too.

I am not a fan of sweet potato, so I didnt intend to try it, but in the end I gave it a try.
The taste is not as impactful as the apple pie, the sweetness of the sweet potato wasn't as sweet as I expected.
I was expecting that nasty sweet taste like those Chinese soups, but it tasted like pumpkin, so maybe they should have pumpkin pie next time for Halloween!!
Anyway, the sweet potato wasn't that mushy, and there was custard coloured sauce.
For the sake of trying new things, it is worth trying!!

From their promotions, I just knew I was going to like it, especially the wheat bun, and herb coating on the chicken.
This CBC is a popular burger served in Europe and the US (chicken & bacon).
Anyway, the coating was surprisingly crunchy and still juicy inside, with nice herbs on the coating to spice it up.
The sauce matched the chicken very well especially the barbecue sauce and the mayonnaise.
I would have liked it if there were more barbecue sauce.
It reminds me of that delicious Southern style chicken especially with the herbs and barbecue sauces.
I don't usually like bacon, but it didnt taste that prominent so it was ok, and the product shot and real thing looked 95% similar.
I liked the wheat bun the most, without those annoying sesame seeds, and this sandwich was so much better than the Sakana.
I am looking forward to the next burger they will launch.

[Review 882] Another vegetarian hangout in Wan Chai @ 樂農 Happy Veggies

Apart from "Loving Hut", there is another vegetarian hangout, located near Wing Wah noodles in a building sandwiched in between 7-11 and Circle K.
The restaurant is on the first floor of Bayfield Building, and you need to take the elevator up one floor, the elevator is somewhat festive, because it makes a weird halloween sound effect when the door opens and closes, also the doors are on both sides.
When I walked in, I did'nt realized they changed the style like Loving hut, where you order, pay and collect.
I thought it was going to be sit down, order, and they will serve you.
At the counter there was a sheet, where you tick three choices out of the six, a choice of plain rice or wholemeal rice with soup for $40 and $30 for takeout.
I think I should point out in my review that the staff there have hearing impairments as stated in their equal opportunities statement.
It was mentioned in the Chinese review, but I just came here by the pictures without reading the reviews so I didn't know.
Anyway, it took a while for them to get the meal ready, because the red beancurd dish had run out.
For my six choices, I chose red beancurd vegetables, tomato and potato curry, and tomato and egg.
One of the good choices, the fried taro paste patty was crossed off from the list and replaced with the egg and tomato.
Rice:
too mushed and clumped together.
Curry tomato and potato:
Tasted quite tomatoey, and I managed to find a piece of Okra!!
Texture: watery.
Red beancurd vegetables:
Tasted a bit bland, and very Starchy/gritty due to the lotus seeds.
Egg and tomato:
Too sweet
Soup:
Typical vegetarian soup taste that is sweet and has a strong taste of beans.
Overall, it is a good place for healthy food, but maybe slightly too noisy.
I think next time I will check out the food side before the sheet to see what it actually looks like before making up my mind.
