[Review 1871] Long live CHO-Omega and its food serenity @ 糙米家 Papa Deli

糙米家  Papa Deli

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/long-live-cho-omega-and-its-food-serenity-e2263321

When I saw this new restaurant in Wan Chai, the name Chomega sounded really familiar, after searching it on Openrice I found out there was a shop at North Point which I walked past and wanted to go in.
The branch at North Point is much smaller, I intended to go but because it was quite small I wasnt sure if there would be any seats when I got there.
Looking at the the green tea dessert from the NP branch photos, it looks as good as the ones served at Japanese dessert houses but unfortunately this dessert and some others were not available here on this visit.
However it was good that they had a notice saying which items were not available.
Anyway, the new branch in Wan Chai is so much different and much more homely, even the toilet is nicely done and encourages people to be environmental.
There are lovely modern stickers on the wall and the windows, and the menu has a down to earth design with handwritten style fonts.

This place specializes in brown rice (Coarse rice in Chinese), hence the name Chomega, a direct pronunciation of coarse rice specialist. As well as the Chinese name the English name has OMEGA in it.
It is good to see that the design of the Chomega logo incorporates the Omega symbol too!

Tried the brown rice with pork in sesame sauce and the croissant with scrambled egg and a choice of two ingredients.
As the food was good I went back another day and tried other dishes.
The second visit I had the fried egg and pork chop and sliced pork in ginger sauce.

Brown rice with pork in sesame sauce

There was generous sesame sauce on the brown rice.
The sesame sauce was really nice because there was some vinegar in it.
I really liked the sauce because it was appetizing and lubricated the coarse brown rice and made it easier to eat.
This dish was quite healthy as there were lots of beanshoots, cabbages and broccoli.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
croissant with scrambled egg
For the scrambled eggs you can choose from cheese, mushrooms, onions and sausages.
I chose sausages with mine and the sausages are basically the frankfurter types.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pork chop with fried egg:
This was the dish I wanted to try at the North point branch.
The Spring onions were nice and tasted like the spring onion sauce at Wing's grilled chicken.
They did not look like they had taste because it just looked like boiled chopped spring onions, but surprisingly they were quite salty.
The pork chop was slightly tough and the fried egg tasted nice with the soy sauce they put on it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pork slices with ginger:
The pork slices were extremely tender and the ginger sauce was really strong.
It tastes better than the pork and ginger at Ajisens!!
As well as the delicious ginger sauce, there was a strong grilled taste and delicious sliced onions.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green tea:
This tastes different from the usual green tea, visually it looks murky and it tastes like a mix of green tea powder and the water from boiled brown rice.

[Review 1870] Signature chicken was just oily with brittle bones @ 畔溪尚粵館 Riverside Restaurant

Ordered the set dinner:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Platter with four things

All the items were just fat and bones.
The roast pork was dry and hard.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lobster with E-fu noodles
The lobster that was used was not fresh and there was more lobster shell than meat.
As well as that there was lots of brittle lobsters shells all over the noodles.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bamboo piths, intimation sharks fin with egg white

Tasteless.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed garoupa

The fish was steamed for too long, the fish stuck to the bones, the oil that was poured on top of the fish was rancid.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried scallops and in XO sauce
A healthy dish of vegetables and seafood made oily because they used generous amounts of oil.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Riverside restaurant Signature chicken

This was appalling, it was a bowl of oil as well as brittle sharp chicken bones!
If this is their signature dish it should have been better.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dessert

It was sweet soup with broken pieces of beancurd sheets.
It was too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
As well as the Pauling food, there were at least 2 waiters by our table staring at you for the whole dinner!

[Review 1869] Swiss roll @ 凱施餅店 Hoixe Cake Shop

Got these swiss rolls from the monthly meeting, they always buy from Hoixe Cake Shop.
Every month it is either egg tarts or paper wrapped cakes, probably because they all cost $4 each.
This time there were Swiss rolls.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Swiss roll:
he Swiss rolls were quite big. The cake was quite soft and the sweetness was just right. Inside it was the usual buttercream that had a slight salty taste to it.

[Review 1868] Delicious buko pie again @ Quezon Express @ Quezon Pinoy Food Express (已結業)

After dining at Greyhound and having the coconut crepe, I remembered that Quezon also has a similar pie which also has young coconut meat.
It only costs $10 per slice.

When I got there, they had new items in the cooked section AGAIN!~
Every time I come here, there is always something new in the cooked section to tempt me to try.

This time I tried the grilled chicken leg.

When you order you can pick two items with rice which costs around $25-27 depending what you pick.
It generally costs more if you pick fish, steak or chicken.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled chicken leg:
The grilled chicken legs looked nice behind the counter even though it was covered in pink/red sauce.

The taste was sweet and the chicken was nicely grilled, however it was hard eating it using the plastic fork and spoon provided.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bamboo shoots:
I do not know what the dish is called but it was really nice because bamboo shoots were soaked in vinegar and cooked with chili so it tasted spicy as well.
The taste of the bamboo was also woody but it did not have that weird smell the yellow bamboo shoots have.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Buko pie:

This was delicious as expected and I loved the crust because it was soft and not overbaked.
The young coconut was slightly hard this time and needed a knife to cut this pie.
The sweetness was just right as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
As well as the buko pie, the egg pie is also delicious:
I also like the way they have their own packaging which is made of card so the food doesnt taste and smell of PFC.

[Review 1867 ] Second visit to Hop Yick, there will be a third @ 合益泰小食 Hop Yik Tai

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/second-visit-to-hop-yick-there-will-be-a-third-e2262883

Since my last visit I was craving for more food from Sham Shui Po, the rice rolls and the liver noodles.

This was my first stop.

Last time the sauces made the rice rolls a bit too soggy so this time I asked for it plain.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice rolls:

The rice rolls still tasted as delicious as the first visit and after eating the preserved egg, I used that plate as a sauce plate and dip the rice rolls there.
Their soy sauce is quite strong, so you only need a little bit.
For me I liked my rice rolls with soy sauce only, but on my next visit I will try the full thing with ALL the sauces.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Preserved eggs:

These preserved eggs were really mushy, the yolk part had this alkaline taste to it.

Since my first visit I was craving for the noodles and liver again.

There are two Wai Kee restaurants, last time I went to the one near the middle of the road, this time I went to the one near the corner of the road.
I think its hard to compare since the chef was different and I went to the other one.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Instant noodles with liver:

The liver tasted as nice as it did last time, however the noodles were slightly mushy and stuck together.
I think next time I will go back to the other shop.
The broth was not as strong as it was previously and the colour was not as dark too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lemon Tea:

The lemon tea was quite nice, the tea they used did not have a bitter taste.

[Review 1865]Soft Cheese bun @ Maxim'sCake Shop 美心西餅

After trying the Gouda cheese buns at Maxim's I decided to try the Soft cheese one as well.
I think I may have tried this before ages ago.

The bun was softer than the Gouda cheese one and it was dusted.

The cream cheese was evidently creamier and not as salty as the Gouda cheese.
I would have liked this bun filled with gouda cheese because I liked the texture of this bun more.
