Maxim's have launched three stylish cakes for Valentines day which are all different in their ways to suit your lover.
The strawberry one is rather girly, while the red one is glamourous.
I went for the matcha and chocolate because it was down to earth and I liked the pairing of the chocolate and matcha.
I loved the presentation of this cake because I liked the chocolate dripping on the side of the cake.
There were layers of moist chocolate cake in the middle surrounded by thick velvety green tea mousse which had a bitter aftertaste.
This is definitely a nice cake that was not too sweet.

Got the Taro and soft pork bone cartilage set which comes with green tea.
The taro was hard and dry, same with the pork cartilage and it was cold with lots of oil on the corner.

[Review 5039] The difference between CEO and Neway @ Neway Karaoke Box

It is obviously cheaper at Neway compared to CEO but for Tea, you only get a mug whereas you get a flask at CEO which has at least two cups in it.
The tea was luke warm so the tea flavour wasn't really strong.

As well as the coffee and caramel roll, I also got a Chinese New Year pudding but I wasn't given the cardboard box packaging for it so it looked like a stupid unboxed gift because they ran out.
Anyway, the coffee and caramel roll tasted like burnt caramel with the bitterness from the coffee.

I feel sorry for those who can't eat seafood

Unfortunately I deleted the photos by accident so I only have the one photo of the lobster roll which I posted on IG.
I came here three times to try the lobster, crab and prawn roll.
There is a set that has all three rolls but it comes with crisps (potato chips), which I don’t really want.
The other set has half of each roll but they taste really good I would rather pay more for a whole roll.
To summarize, all the rolls were good and minimalistic dressing was used because the seafood is tasty that it doesn't really need any dressing.
Anyway, as I was having dinner that night so I settled for a lobster roll.
I was impressed when it came because the chunks of lobster were mixed with vibrant lobster roe.
The butter was how it should be and not like the smelly Chinese butter and the lobster chunks were nicely seasoned yet you could still taste the natrual lobster.
The only bad point was that it contained two big pieces of endoskeleton that is found in the claw and both pieces were big so you can imagine how big the claw is.

On the second visit, I had the crab roll and soup which didn't let me down either.
It was pure delicious crab meat in the soft crispy roll and I was so happy eating it because how often do you get so much crab meat that is off the shell and without the trouble of deshelling it.
I love crab but when it is served, I normally don't bother with it because it is too troublesome to eat.

The lobster soup tasted really concentrated but in a good way because it tasted like a whole lobster concentrated in one spoon with bits of lobster roe in it.
The only complaint was that it was a bit salty.
On the third visit, I was back for the prawn roll.
I was told that the taste was going to be bland but I didn't find it bland at all.
Again, the dressing was minimalistic but the prawns were delicious with a crunch and you can see the prawns are translucent and slightly opaque.
Once you have tried this, you won't want to eat other prawns because it tastes like the good prawns that you get in Chinese prawn omelettes (ha yan chow daan).
From the picture, you can see at least 10 prawns!
I also tried the fries which have a slight truffle taste on its own but there is extra truffle mayonnaise to make it taste stronger.
I will be back soon!
Lobster rolls are inexpensive in other countries but Hong Kong has issues importing seafood I guess and at the moment Lobster rolls are a niche market because there is a sudden trend for them.
In Canada, lobsters are so cheap that McDonalds served McLobsters in 2013 at (C$6.50=HKD36.2)

[Review 5036] $53 deal @ 大家樂 Café de Coral

Shop UG22, UG/F., Coronation Circle, 1 Yau Cheung Road, Yau Ma Tei

Café de Coral is always overpriced in my opinion because you have to collect the food yourself.
The food portion is big but the ingredients are inexpensive.
Anyway, I had the omelette with roast pork and shitaake mushrooms with vegetarian sharks fin soup and Chinese tea.
The omelette was actually ok because the roast pork was fresh and soft but a little bit too sweet for my liking, however the mushrooms didn't quite match because the texture of it is different to Western mushrooms.
As for the vegetarian sharks fin soup, it was big and decent with lots of bamboo piths in it and it wasn't overly salty or laced with MSG.
The only thing I didn't like were the fake crabmeat and pieces of pork which downgraded it.
I am not sure if you get to choose the Chinese tea but I was given pu erh which tastes like MUD.

[Review 5035] Singaporean eatery in Sai Kung @ 來德好蝦麵廚房

西貢普通道62號地舖

Not in a blue moon do I go to Sai Kung these days because transport in and out of SK is HELL.
The last time I was in SK was for my British food craving at The Cabin.
This time I was in SK because I had to visit some people during the CNY.
I found out about this new shop from a talented foodie so tried it since I was in SK.
This place serves Singaporean dishes such as prawn noodles but I decided to go for something else that day.
I ordered the Sichuan mouth watering chicken and requested for white meat (not that I like white meat but normally you get bones and skin if you don't request for white meat).
The chicken was lean and skinless which was good but it was not soft enough, however the Sichuan chili oil was amazing because of the fragrant Sichuan peppercorns in it.
It was paired with chicken oil flavoured rice which was strange but I gathered they gave me that because the woman opposite had Hainan chicken and wanted plain rice but they gave her chicken oil rice so it became spare.
Anyway, I like chicken oil flavoured rice so I was ok with it.
The soup was good too because it was white with lots of spring onions and seaweed in it.
Normally there is no 10% but because it was CNY public holiday, there was a 10% service charge.
