When you get off the escalators and walk along Staunton Street, you simply can't miss this brightly decorated joint on the corner.

You will find lots of people taking selfies there because it looks really good.

Brooklyn Bar & Grill serves American comfort food but also serves other dishes to accommodate the city.

Sadly I missed lunch because they have pulled pork pie which I will come back for another day.

I had mussels which were just as good!

The sauce looked really creamy but it was not and there were so much chopped vegetables in the white wine garlic sauce which went deliciously with the toasted bread that had cheese on it.

As well as the mussels I really liked the sauce because strangely I could taste cheese and it was so good, I requested for more bread but without the cheese this time to properly soak up the sauce as there was so much of it that I was tempted to drink it like soup.

Finished off with my favourite tea, I was really surprised they had it as most bars don't have tea and they had quite a few teas to choose from.

Coming back for the pie soon!

[Review 5436] The world is mad for garlic @ Mad for Garlic

Mad for Garlic is a garlic themed restaurant where every dish has garlic in it, even the desserts has garlic as well.

It is franchised from Seoul, Korea.

I don't normally eat in Korean eateries because everything has kimchi but Mad for garlic doesn't.
Comparing the decor, the Hong Kong restaurant is too bright and not goth enough because Hongkongers are a bit scared of the dark side.
Ordered steaks because they looked good and I could pretty imagine the taste of the garlic tower so I didn't try it.

Both steaks were good, the tenderloin was meaty and tender while the rib eye steak was juicy and soft but too fat in some parts.
To be honest I could have finished the two steaks to myself!

Emmental garlic tenderloin steak:

It was all good apart from the cheese because it was grilled to the point that it was like hard plastic and just lifted off the steak.
The size of the steak was quite small.

grilled rib eye steak with herbs and cheese gratin:

The steak was soft and juicy and the cheese gratin was actually potato mash but the butter taste was a bit too strong but after putting salt on it, the taste was amazing.

It seems they were in a hurry to get the plates back because they insisted to collect the plate when there was still some food on it.

Discovered this place after dining at Tsang Kee.
I saw some Indian expats having the saag paneer and it just looked delicious so I came back to try the curry.
As it was dinner, I got the spinach and lamb curry with naan.
I was so glad to have ordered the naan because it was fluffy and the crispy parts were delicious as well.
The curry was also bloody delicious because the spiciness was just right and the texture of the spinach was like whipped creamy spinach.
Ended up ordering more naan because there was quite a bit of curry left.
After I finished the meal, I didn't feel any bloating like you get from other Indian restaurants.

[Review 5434] East Ocean mooncakes x Twinings tea pairing @ 東海薈 East Ocean Seaview Restaurant

Mooncakes are really heavy and sweet that you always need to wash it down with a strong Chinese tea.
As well as Chinese tea, other teas can also be paired with it.

East Ocean has done a mooncake pairing with Twinings tea which costs $60 in a limited edition tea can.

Here are the pairings:
-White lotus seed paste mooncake with rose garden black tea
-Mini egg custard mooncake with summer berry green tea
-chocolate custard mooncake with London Strand Earl Grey
-low sugar white lotus seed paste mooncake with pure sencha green tea
-red bean paste mooncake with budding meadow camomile tea.

Personally I prefer modern mooncakes filled with egg custard and the chocolate egg custard so for my teas I would pair it with the London Strand Earl Grey and Pure sencha green tea because I prefer my teas straight forward.

Anyway, that day we got to make our own tea blends and custard mooncakes.

The freshly baked mooncakes were divine because the pastry was very aromatic and the custard filling was really velvety.

As well as mooncakes, there were other snacks like crispy curry triangles which reminded me of British style Chinese spring rolls.

I don't often go to rice noodle shops because I don't eat thick rice noodles.
Previously been to the TKO branch for snacks only.

Seeing that they have a new menu and noodles other than rice noodles I gave it a try.

Started with Soya Milk and Cucumber which was a really nice drink muddled with fresh cucumbers that was soothing and not too sweet.

Here is the Inaniwa Udon, an addition to their rice noodles
The texture was a bit like tagliatelle in soup but I liked it.

The other delicious new item was the Signature Dan Dan Mixian with Hot & Spicy Pork Chop.
I found the broth really spicy and the rest of the spicy items really spicy even though I can eat spicy foods.

The pork chop coated in potato flour were a must eat because it is crispy on the outside and the pork was juicy and tender inside.

Mixian with U.S. Beef & Fish Tofu in Hot & Spicy Tomato Soup:
My friend had this but as I said the spicy items were really spicy.

Jumbo Dumplings in Coriander Broth:
These dumplings were huge filled with Korean glass vermicelli.
The broth was not spicy so this is as good option and you can request it without the coriander if you don't like it.

Sichuan Spicy Chicken:
Very spicy!~

Spicy platter with marinated pig intestines, beef, Chinese radishes.
Spicy!!

Sliced Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce:
Spicy again!

Had the fried shaomai which was really crispy but tasteless, however there are lots of sauces that you can use.

A foodie friend told me about these spiral shell noodles which in Chinese is pronounced "lore see fun" so I thought she meant fuscilli but it turns out that the broth is stewed with snails hence the name but there are no physical snail pieces in the noodle.
Anyway, decided to try give this place a try.
About half of the menu is spicy, so I chose some vegetables and sweet and sour pork.

Started with the Liuzhou spiral shell noodles which have an overwhelming smell that stinks the place if you don't like it and I would describe this smell similar to urine.
I believe the culprit was the bamboo shoots.
The soup was quite salty so the noodles were quite tasty but I couldn't taste any spiral shells in the broth as it was quite spicy.

The Peanut in vinegar were not sour.
As for the Sweet potato leaves with marinated bamboo shoots, it also had that smell and the whole dish was very oily.
The sweet and sour pork was very likeable and it had osmanthus flowers in the sauce and the pork was nice and crispy but too fatty for my liking.
Finished with the Pineapple and orange juice drink which tasted like squash.
I think we chose the wrong stuff this time so I probably want to come back and try the Spiral shell soup and duck's feet in spiral shell pot for a proper Liuzhou experience.
