Went here because they had panfried cheese dumplings.

There is an open kitchen so you can see dumplings being handmade.

Here was what I had:

「Gam Zaa」Steamed Dumplings filled with Pork And Red Fermented Bean Curd.
Ordered this because of the filling, but the dumpling skin was thick and I would have liked the pork to be leaner.

Chongzing Pork Wontons with noodles:
The wontons were taut and the pork was lean, while the noodles were too soft.

The broth was quite spicy.

Pan-fried Cheese Dumpling:
I was expecting just cheese but it had pork and sweetcorn as well. The sweetcorn stole the show so you couldn't taste any cheese. Pairing cheese and onion is a no brainer in Western cuisine but it also depends if they use good cheese or processed cheese which really affects the taste.

For drinks had the Hawthorn Pear Water which has Pear, Licorice, Rock Sugar, Malt and Water.
The drink was not too sweet and it was soothing.

I loved the Dumplings with Matsutake Mushroom & Pork (With Zong Jyun Gau Ding Soup).
The dumplings tasted really earthy because of the mushrooms.

Also had the crispy tofu filled with Matsutake Mushroom, they were great but a bit too oily.

The golden eggs were my favourite because they were spicy and delicious.

I have always wanted to try this famous desserterie but I never make it to MK.

Was in the area so took my friend here as it would be quieter and away from the crowd.

Had the Earl Grey tea by mighty leaf which was fragrant and aromatic.

My friend had a rose tea.

He also had the molten green tea cake with tofu icecream which was indeed runny in the middle.

I went for the pancake which was a thick fluffy pancake with crisp edges.

The best thing was that the pancake was not sweet so the salted caramel makes it taste just right.

Tried to come here during the weekend and there was a huge crowd.
Wanchai does lack Chinese desserts so it makes sense that was busy.
Anyway, finally tried the hot purple potato tofu but it was too sweet.
The strawberry pancake was much nicer and it had a whole ripe strawberry in the middle and the cream was light and delicious.

I am not sure what this thing is called in English but it is like a dry pot with all the ingredients stir fried in Sichuan spices.
There is a choice of ingredients but frankly I only liked the beef and luncheon ham, some of the ingredients were not so Sichuan for example the meatballs and sausages.
Everything was tasty and delicious with rice but the rice was too soft.
Also had the "Bad Wind claw" which had a strong wine taste and it was quite salty which expats should find amusing.
At first there is a strong smell of fags for obvious reasons but then the smell of lovely food clears it away.

Stopped here for some noodles.
The drink I had was gross because the ice was speckled with some brown weird stuff.
Anyway removed the ice and just had coke with lemon which just tasted like coke with lemon.
The noodles were ok but not amazing.

Stopped by because I felt like some noodles.

Ordered the wontons with prawn roe.

The noodles and broth were tasteless and the wonton was decent with visible prawns, pork and prawn roe that has gone pink but again it doesn't really wow you.

Sichuan fare that isn't too fiery

I love Sichuan food so tried this place.

Arrived early and had drinks first as the others haven't arrived yet.

There is a bar on the first floor and I love the candle holder which is filled with dried chilis!
Started with the tequila colada which had a good coconut milk base that prepares your stomach for spicy food but the food wasn't as spicy as anticipated.
The tequila colada was refreshing with a subtle pineapple taste as well as coconut.

After the others arrived, we went to the second floor where it was nicely decorated.

Started with some appetizers: Sliced pork with chili and garlic, ox tongue and tripe medley and okra with ginger sauce.
Sliced pork with chili and garlic:

As well as pork, they had these dough pieces called ears which was similar to Spatzle.

ox tongue and tripe medley:

The tripe medley was a great starter because I love springy meaty tripe infused in an aromatic spicy oil.

The okra with ginger sauce was a light and healthy jazzed up by the fiery ginger sauce.

Moved on to the Seafood bean soup which tasted like pumpkin soup with tiny pieces of grains that looked like couscous. There was lots of seafood in it.

For the mains, had the Diced chicken with chili and cashews which tasted quite sweet.

The Dry braised prawns were huge and succulent.

The crispy fish in spicy sauce was not spicy at all but slightly sweet.

The Cheungdu roasted duck is a bit different to Cantonese roast duck because it came with a delicious gravy which complimented rice perfectly as it was flavoured with lots of Sichuan spices.

Finished off with the fermented glutinous rice with clear jelly.

It was such a good dessert to finish off with because it was not too sweet.

A good place for fine Sichuan food that is not too spicy.
