Sweet set dinner

Dined here because a friend said he would be in the kitchen.
I don't know how long he has been cooking but Kits dishes were quite good.

The set dinner had a sweet theme to it, all the courses had some dessert element in it.
For appetizers had the Black Truffle Scallop Eclair and  Fried Foie Gras with Mashed Apple Sauce with Fig.
++++++++
Black Truffle Scallop Eclair:
The sweet scallops were topped on a light puffy eclair complimented by the fresh cucumbers and truffle.

++++++++
Fried Foie Gras with Mashed Apple Sauce with Fig:
Although I am bored of foie gras, this one was well executed because the texture wasn't oily paired nicely with he dried apple slice and fig sauce.

Next were the French Onion Soup and Lobster and Tomato Soup:

Lobster and Tomato Soup:
The tomato soup was a surprise because it was tomato consomme which tasted like tomato essence so I really liked it.

For mains, had the duck and Lobster.
The presentation of the Sous vide French Duck Breast was really colourful.

My Lobster Thermidor and Lobster Souffle was fun.
The lobster souffle was a fluffy savoury souffle with lobster pieces at the bottom.

Finished with the Daily Dessert Platter (+80) which includes their light creme brulee cheesecake and double chocolate cake.

[Review 6511] Veg Indian paradise @ 新意達 Sangeetha Vegetarian Restaurant

I eat quite a lot of Indian food because it is one of my favourite Cuisines.
Recently I have started exploring Vegetarian Indian food when I realized there are quite a few in TST.
When I walked into Sangeetha, I was impressed to see that they make their own snacks because I normally buy these at Indian shops.

The menu was impressive and there was so much to choose from.
For Vadas, there was a good variety like Onion, pepper etc and the milkshake range too.
Started with the hazelnut milkshake which was very sweet.

It was really difficult making my mind up because every item was different and something I wanted to try.

Started with the onion vada which was crispy with lots of onions in it.
I was so glad I had this because most restaurants serve plain vada.

Next was the Idiyappam which is similar to rice vermicelli with coconut chutney and curry.
The pairing of these were great as it balanced the fieriness of the spices.

Next was the Uttapam whichi is like a thick pancake with lots of peas in it.
It was crisp on the surface with juicy sweet peas popping in your mouth.

For carbs, I had the fried mushroom rice and Sichuan fried noodles.
In my opinion, Indian fried rices and noodles are far less oily but then I am biased because I love long grain Indian rice which is fluffy and soft!

I really liked the fried rice because there was crisp lettuce in it which gave it a refreshing mouthfeel.
The Palak Mutter was spicy but great with the rice.

Overall, this was the best experience because the staff were very patient and expat friendly so I will be coming back again.

[Review 6510] Vegetarian series @ 馬丁王越式法包 Vuong's French Sandwich

This is probably the 6th visit to Vuong because their Vietnamese baguettes are really tasty.Usually I go to the HK branch but they have moved all their operations here.
Luckily they still serve my favourite double cheese baguette.
As well as meat, they serve quite a lot of vegetarian options like Vegetarian Vietnamese Baguette and Vegetarian noodles.

On this visit, I had the new vegetable salad which comes with a choice of two dressings: Vietnamese or Japanese.
The Japanese sauce on the right is suitable for vegetarians because it does not contain garlic.
It is made with olives and vinegar.
The Vietnamese sauce on the left contains fish sauce which was given for my noodles.

I tried the noodles without any sauce. I found it palatable so if you really wanted to be health conscious, it tastes ok without but of course better with sauces.
Personally, I liked their new Japanese sauce because it wasn't sweet and the vinegar is appetizing.
The vegetable salad was huge and nutritious with pine nuts and seasonal veggies like lettuce, cucumber, onions, pickled carrots, coriander and tomatoes.

Finished off with my favourite vegetarian baguette which was packed with delicious flavours as usual from the chilis and pickles.

The cheese baguette is another must order item as well, but unfortunately I was full so I finished off with the salty sprite which has a prominent salty lemon taste to it.

I WILL BE BACK FOR THE CHEESE BAGUETTE!

Wheelchair friendly

Hong Kong is a tiny place, there is no space for anything let alone wheelchairs, strollers and children.
I was impressed that this place was wheelchair friendly as well as humane.
Most restaurants in HK dislike the elderly as well as children, but the sad fact is that HK is a place where age, gender and looks are important.
The scary thing is that you rarely see any people over 50 being employed whereas age is not a factor in other countries.
Air hostesses are considered old when they are over 35 in HK whereas it is pretty normal elsewhere.

After that nice tea place nearby was forced to close due to renovation, I decided to try other tea places in the area.

I didn't order much but the dishes I tried were pretty good.
For carbs, had the fried noodles with beef, the oil was fresh and it wasn't too oily.

For dimsum, had the custard buns and steamed bun.

The custard bun was top notch, it was fluffy and soft while the filling was runny and not too sweet.

To my surprise, the best dish was the chicken feet because they were soft and infused with a strong herb taste from the herb broth that it was cooked in.
Although, they were slightly salty, it really needed that salt to go with the Chinese herbs.

The difference with this noodle joint is that you can order through the self ordering kiosk but the limitations is that you have to pay by octopus and the interface  does not seem to have English.

There is an area to return your trays, dispose of food waste etc.
Interesting decor or it could be fengshui:

They had this really evilicious crab meat and salted egg yolk paste so I decided to try it.

I drank the soup first so that I could mix the paste in the noodles.

The best thing was that the paste was not too salty yet you could still taste the crab meat and starchy yolk.

My friend had the cart noodles with various of toppings which looked delicious as well.

Overall, the noodles were great so I definitely recommend the crab paste and the fresh beancurd skin to go with and try their other noodles.

I love the new menu

Went here again because the menu has changed.
There were some interesting items so I had to go and try them, I found it quite hard choosing the dishes because every dish had some elements that I liked.

Started with the Hong Kong inspired cocktails Salty Lemon and the Sweetened Red Bean.

The [Salty Lemon] was gin and salted lemon, I really liked the saltiness.

The [Sweetened Red Bean] was really pretty, I liked the colourful sprinkles and cream and it was sweet because of the rum and red beans at the bottom.

Now to the food!!!!
The [Roasted US asparagus with oyster puree, ser wong fun duck liver sausage] was phenomenal because ser wong fun duck livers sausages are guaranteed to be good and they cooked it in the best way by frying it which made it crispy.
I never imagined that the frying process could make it taste that intense and all the fats are fried off.
By the same concept, I think black pudding could taste just as good deep fried.

-Sichuan spicy slow poached pigeon:
I chose this because I like Sichuan Flavours and it turned out really good because the texture of pigeon was really velvety and all the meat flavours were concentrated.
The best thing was the dried beancurd sheets under the pigeon because it literally absorbed the flavours!
If only I had a bowl of plain rice to go with it.

-Braised Wagyu beef cheek in satay sauce with seared rice rolls
The beef cheek was soft and gelatinous as expected so it did not disappoint.
Beneath the meat was these lovely al dente rice rolls which gave me a satisfied feeling because I just need carbs in my meal to feel full!

Finished with the [papaya, lily flower milk, snow swallow and hazelnut parfait].
I found this strangely comforting because the flavours were delicate and it was not too sweet.
The hazelnuts that were sprinkled on top made it heavenly as the nutty taste and the lily flower milk went together nicely.

Overall, I was satisfied with all the dishes I chose.
