Pasta Burger at [MOS Burger]
2018-06-04 231 瀏覽
Hong Kong is slow at launching new dishes that have already been launched elsewhere because their timid approach is to observe whether the product sells well in other countries before serving it.
Anyway, I discovered the pasta burger series on night as I was stuck in HH thanks to damn tourists and people commuting into shatkung.

There is no damn price on the menu so I had to ask which is annoying.
Decided to try the vegetarian one because I liked the combination.

It took a while to come and I suspect it was the first time they were making it as no one has ordered it before.
Finally arrived and it looked just like the picture.
I liked the way they were serious with the presentation as I saw them cut the lettuce leaf into a circle with scissors.
It was really impressive, how the pasta held together, yet the texture was not too hard or dry.

I was really glad I chose the Caesar because the sauce went really well with the pasta and it was appetizing with the shredded onions.
The other two are tempting to try but MOS has closed down for rennovation so I have to find another branch that serves it.

I have always wanted to try this Michelin starred ramen but never made it.
Shugetsu now has three branches with the newest branch in CWB and it is quieter at this branch, however they don't open on Mondays!!
They serve ramen and Tsukemen.
Tsukemen is the award winning one but I was here for the spring onion ramen after seeing all pictures with spring onion overload!!
It was just as good as expected and there is so much spring onion to last you through all the ramen and I appreciate how finely chopped they are.
The best thing was that the spring onions miraculously stayed crisp all the way and balanced the strong fishy broth.
The shio broth was very different but the strong salt taste was addictive without being too salty,.
I am so glad there is a good ramen joint in CWB and the spring onion ramen is a must try.

Before I came, I got this confused with another Kamitora nearby which has closed down.
Anyway, this one is on Tai Wong Road East and is evidently different.
I love those cute colourful napkins.

There were five different ramens to choose from:

Started with the gyoza which were bursting with juices inside.
The ramen was evidently the stars of the show and they come with these cute pork meatballs which were tasty.
They were soft just like homemade meatballs.
Personally I was really fond of my pork broth because I wanted to try the most original one and it was rich and thick with lots of collagen floating about.
Overall, the pork slices were soft and fresh and the ramen was quite likable because the texture was a bit like blanched pasta, but probably not how you would expect in a way of describing it.
The fried chili and dried prawn condiment really made it tastier as it helped balanced the heaviness of the pork broth.
The condiments was actually meant for the prawn broth but it also went well with the pork broth.
The prawn broth is just more prawny but it just depends on which broth you fancy that day.

Decided to try this place because of the Taiwanese hotpots.
This could be the first and the worst in TKO.
Anyway, the location was more of a nuisance than expected because it is next to this residential mall which does not let you go through hence you have to waste another 5 minutes to walk around it.
So it could take you quite a while to walk from the MTR station if you don't live nearby.
Ordered the Signature Taiwanese pot because it contains fermented tofu, TW bloodcake and ducks blood however when it came there was no ducks blood as stated on the menu.
For the other pot, it was funny how they serve the meat frozen, which is slightly different from the other two branches in TST.
The portion was smaller compared to the other two at TST, you get at least 2-3 per item but here you only get one piece of each.
The soup was bland.
Not worth trekking over for this, I hope the other restaurants nearby are better.

Cambo used to be popular with branches on Sai Yee Street and Langham Food Court etc but not anymore I guess!
Went here randomly and the menu has changed quite a bit.
Anyway, had the duck noodles which looked promising when it arrived in that dark broth with a fragrant basil smell.
The only thing that killed it was the sweetness of the broth and the duck had been cooked for too long as it was too dry and tough.

I was checking out this new building because I heard that Popeyes was going to be there but sadly it wasn't open yet so I just explored the place to see what was open.
On the top floor, there was The Charcoal Room which sounded interesting.
Went there for lunch and tried some lunch sets.
A la Carte menu with more meat options:

When I was seated, I discovered that they use charcoal for grilling.
As well as outdoor BBQs, this could be the first indoor Charcoal bbq in a comfortable air conditioned environment.
I tried the soypaste soup with rice, steamed pork with red bean rice and a grilled platter where you can choose three meats.
Although the grill is the star of the show, the other two lunch sets were equally as impressive especially the soy paste soup which had a strong bean taste with firm tofu.
The other red bean rice reminded me of Caribbean rice and peas!
Soypaste soup with rice:
Steamed pork with red bean rice:
Grilled Platter:
The charcoal grill was actually quite good because there were flames which cooks the meat like BBQ so that the meat is nicely charred on the outside whilst moist inside.
I was definitely impressed by this experience because of the charcoal grill so will come again!

[Review 6593] Sichuan fare at Shanghai Lao Lao @ 上海姥姥 Shanghai Lao Lao

I was surprised to see some Sichuan dishes at SLL so decided to try it because I like Sichuan dishes.
They had four different items in hot chili oil: Seafood, Beef, Pork and Vegetarian and two appetizers which were tripe or pigs stomach.
Clearly the seafood in hot chili oil was my pick because it had prawns and jellyfish which is not often served in Sichuan restaurants.
The tripe was a bit repetitive though because there was an appetizer version with it and it was in the chili oil version.
Anyway, got the tripe for appetizer and a few other Shanghai dishes.
The prawns in chili oil was spicier than I expected but you could still taste the freshness of the prawns which were springy.
It would be great if it came with rice as it really goes well with rice.
The beef tripe was soft with a chew, also marinated well but a little too salty.
For carbs, had the noodles with spare ribs (pork chop in Shanghai cuisine), the noodles were plain which goes well with the chili and stronger dishes.
We also had the Shanghai dumplings as these are my favourites especially with the appetizing vinegar.
Overall, I was pretty stuffed but satisfied with the spicy dinner.
