I generally avoid eating at these restaurants because it can be either very good or very bad.If it is good then good, but if it is bad, it is embarrassing to leave unfinished food or just eat it!
In this case, I was hesitating to go but another friend said it was good so I am glad we went.
The location was in Central so it was hard resisting to go.
Price was around $8xx which was even cheaper than something not so good and similar in CWB.
There is a choice of beef or pork and I am so glad I chose pork because it is less oily and the Chef served it so well.

To begin with, there was salmon, salmon roe, dried lotus root slices, Japanese mushrooms mixed with tofu and taro.
It was simply delicious as I always believe less is more which is the beauty of Japanese food because they don't use much artificial seasoning.

Next was the chawanmushi:
chawanmushi is basically silky steamed egg and that's it but here it was topped with monk fish liver and citrus glaze which made it the best I have ever tasted because it was appetizing yet it had rich monk fish liver.

The sashimi consisted of maguro and fish milt.
Both my favourites.

While you are having the appetizers, the chef is preparing the next course.

The egg dip is freshly beaten in front of you.
It is optional for the meat but dipping it in the egg makes it more smooth with more depth.
What I really appreciated is that they give you some white rice which is badly needed when eating delicious meat.
Towards the end, they will serve potato noodles which were originally colourless.
The texture is crispy with a chew like konjac.
The last piece of pork is topped with a knotted veg to signify the last course before main rice dish.
The last course was heavenly because it consists of semi cooked scrambled egg with pork slices on rice.
It was topped with finely chopped chives which freshens it up a bit.
Finished with soup and pickles.
The soup was memorable because it was red miso soup with sansho pepper which is similar to Sichuan pepprcorn that has a numbing effect.
The dessert was a good finish because it was silky pudding with diced crisp pear and fruits which beats matcha icecream any day.
Overall I was very impressed and the price and location is worth a visit.

Recently went to QB to visit the White Christmas fair by Swire.
As it was after office hours, decided to dine in the area as all the office people have buggered off.
Stopped at Umimachidon because their donburis are quite unique in the sense that you are served Jelly vinegar and seafood broth with it.
I had a similar thing in TST so I knew it was worth trying because the Jelly vinegar makes it so appetizing but the restaurant in TST didn't have the soup.
As with most Japanese restaurants, there are no windows so the privacy is quite good.
Chose the one at the bottom as it had a bit of everything.
As you can see, it was loaded with scallop, shrimp, uni, salmon roe, crabmeat etc.
Beneath all that, there were clams and chopped eel with the rice.
The best thing was the vinegar jelly which made it so appetizing that I didn't need to use the wasabi.
After getting 2/3rds through, the bottle of seafood soup on the tray can be added to the rice.
I tried the soup on its own and it was fantastic as the fish taste was strong but without the unpleasant fishiness.
It was so good that I wish they could give me some more fish soup!.
Will be back if I am in the area again.

Discovered this restaurant as I was shopping at FoodDepot next door.
The cozy joint is stylish and they serve pizzas, burgers and pastas.
The pasta I wanted was sold out so I had the cheese and ham platter and the ribs.
Started with the cheese and ham platter which had a selection of brie, Swiss cheese, salami and parma ham.
It was really nice but lacked bread to go with it.
Next were the ribs!!
It was two generous slabs where the meat came off the bones but more barbecue sauce was needed.
The chips that came with it were perfectly fried.
Finished with a fruit soda which was peach syrup and soda water.
The menu didn't specify which fruit so I wonder if there was a choice because they didn't ask us when we ordered.
Overall, a nice place for dinner in NP.

Mäckish sandwiches at Rye House

Went to the Nordic Innovation House opening a few days ago. After the opening, there was food served on the top floor by the Mäckish girls Olga and Kegen.
I was gutted I didn't try the moose Mäckish but then I discovered they were doing a two day pop up at Rye House so I decided to go as I haven't been to Rye House either.
Rye House serves Nordic food but I only tried the sandwiches that day as it was only a two day event.
I will come back for the egg pie and other Nordic goodies.
They had drinks and sauces imported from Finland and Sweden.
Sauces:
Here were the open faced sandwiches that I had where I ate like there was no tomorrow as this was my first and last time trying it.
==========
- Skagen Mäckish (Left)-
Skagen is a Swedish treasure, a cream based on mayo and shrimps.
Freshened up with horseradish, dill & lemon zest.
Served on rye bread with salad topped with roe, red onion and lemon.
This was sensational as it was just like eating prawn and mayonnaise taken to the next level with red onions and dill.
The lemon gives it a refreshing balance so that the mayonnaise doesn't get too heavy.
==========
- Renskavs Mäckish (right) -
“Renskav” is a classic Swedish beloved dish but this time with a twist.
The creamy reindeer meat is combined with sour lingonberries, parsley and pickled chanterelles.
It was definitely a festive Mäckish with red lingonberries, parsleys and pickled saukeraut to compliment the creamy reindeer meat!!!
It tasted like lean ostrich meat and there is no gaminess.
Sorry Santa, I ate your reindeers.
==========
- Vegan Super Beautiful -
A colourful and sweet hummus combined with steamed mini asparagus and beetroot sprouts.
Topped with black and white sesame seeds.
Hummus never fails because I love cumin and pureed textures.
==========
Can't wait to come back and try the stews and everything else.
Last but not least were the drinking straws!!
These are the stalks of Rye Grass that are natrual and hollow which allows you to sip your drinks.
It makes perfect sense to use these as horses are fed hay and straw!

As a curry fan, I have been meaning to try the new keema curry by coco ichibanya.
There is a basic one and other options.
I went for the basic one as I was just keen on trying what their Keema would taste like.
When it came, it looked like curry bolognese.
The taste was crap unfortunately.
It wasn't the curry base that killed it but the beef itself.
The curry base was a good one with a nice aroma but the beef which was the meat ingredient stunk.
It was so gamey like it had thawed, gone off and refrozen again during transport and now served as curry.
The gaminess was so bad the curry could not cover it.
I would have been better off buying their packaged version and trying it at home.
At least the quality has been assured at the food factory before it left which is kept at that state in the vacuum packet.

Went here not knowing it was a vegetarian cafe until I looked at the menu. The ambiance and staff were really nice and friendly.
As I was pretty hungry, I had the steamed vegetable dumplings, Fortunate Sandwich and banana and chocolate cake.[I think one of the staff was in shock as she saw how much I could eat, but then it was delish so it was all good].
The Fortunate Sandwich was very satisfying as it tasted like a vegan club sandwich and it had my favourite Alfalfa in it.
The steamed dumplings were a good choice, all of them were uniformly shaped and inside it was delish chopped vegetables.
The chocolate banana cake was soft and moist without being too sweet.
Finished with the caramel latte.
To summarize I enjoyed the food and the staff were friendly so I will definitely be back.

I love pandan so much that I have to try anything that is Pandan flavoured.
At Pandan Leaf, they have these pandan glutinous dumplings and pandan rice.
Tried both!!!
I just got the plain pandan rice because I wasn't interested in the chicken or beef.
It was surprisingly good and would be even better if it was piping hot.
There was a lovely coconut taste with chicken flavour infused in it so it didn't need anything else.
It didn't have any nasty lemongrass to it so I'll definitely get it again.
As for the dumplings, it was served like a drink.
They asked me if I wanted ice so I requested it ice free with less sugar.
The drink turned out to be a hot drink. which was interesting.
I wonder how you are meant to drink that with a straw as the dumplings are huge.
Anyway I had it like a dessert and the dumplings were sweet already so the drink didn't need sweetening.
The dumplings were a bit too soft that they were almost gooey but I liked the fact there were no fillings in them.
Overall they were not too sweet with a good pandan taste.
