Tea is always my best friend!

Wandered into this mall after visiting some restaurants nearby.
At first I thought it was a bubble tea house from the neon logo.

There was much more to offer on the menu and they had tea blends in large test tubes.

As the menu was in Chinese, most of them didn't really mean anything so it was really helpful that the boss let me smell the teas so I could order the one I was looking for.
There was one I instantly remembered the smell of as I had it before at Citysuper.

Pineapple Soda:
The pineapple soda was simply reduced pineapple and soda without sweeteners which is why I ordered it.
At the bottom of the drink are pieces of fresh pineapple which they have cooked for a long time so that it gets reduced and reduced until you get concentrated pieces of pineapple with natrual sweetness.

As well as pineapple, there was some citrus peel which gave it extra aroma.
I definitely recommend this drink if you are in the area.

Damask Rose Tea:
Damask Rose tea is extremely fragrant and soothing with a lovely bitter aftertaste.
I had it cold to begin with and you can get a second round by adding hot water which also tasted good.

Will definitely be back if I am in the area and hopefully they will have another branch closer to the city.

Caviar Dinner for HKD250

I love caviar so tried the caviar themed dinner for HKD250.
Located in Taikoktsui, is it manned by a chef who has appeared on TVB and served numerous celebrities.
The caviar served here has been specially selected for Crazy King which is labelled on the lid.

Started with the platter which visually looked good.
From right to left was seared tuna topped with caviar, 63 degree egg topped with caviar and red prawn carpaccio on top of potato salad.
Started with seared tuna which was complimented nicely with the saltiness of the caviar.
Next was the red prawn carpaccio which was my favourite of the three as you could taste the briny saltiness of the sea.
The 63 egg was fab because of the runny yolk but it was quite filling.

The next course was Sweetcorn soup.
It was creamy with roasted sweetcorn pieces in it.
The final course was a delight as they use Calvisius Lingotto Caviar which is dried caviar that was grated on to the pasta.
I found the pasta a bit too creamy so it overpowered the grated caviar but overall good.
Looking forward to their new menu as they are going to change it soon.

Ramen and Curry

When a friend wants ramen and the other wants curry then come here if you are in Diamond Hill as it serves both!
There was quite a lot of choices as this restaurant serves ramen from Miso No1 and Karama Curry.
Friend had the pork bone ramen which came in a rich broth.
He also had the gyozas which were only HKD1x extra.

I had the omelette with fried chicken curry.

The portion was quite big and it comes with soup and sweetcorn.
The fried chicken was succulent and crispy while the egg was semi cooked.

As for the curry sauce I found it a bit too sweet.

Overall, this place is good for curry and ramen but it gets quite busy so you have to allow time for the food to arrive and check up to see if they missed your order.

[Review 7664] Japanese highball paired with Izakaya bites @ The ThirtySix

According to The ThirtySix Bar & Co's website, it is Asia's first and only (ex-Japan) cocktail bar serving the perfect Japanese highball The Mizuwari way paired with gourmet Izakaya inspired bites.
As well as that, everyone is probably here to see if they get a lucky glimpse of Daniel Wu who is either The Chief or The boss according to the photo on the website!
Anyway, no sighting of Daniel Wu that night but we had some fantastic food paired with drinks.

Started off with the 21st Century California and Seedlipper.
The  21st Century California was made with precision with steps that were followed strictly to ensure the perfect cocktail.
I must admit the 21st Century California was to my liking because it was SWEET concocted with Rinomato Bianco an aperitivo from Piedmont that uses aromatic ingredients including bergamot, rhubarb, vanilla and mandarin.
It also had Mezcal which is made from the agave plant.
Garnished on top was dark chocolate which enhanced the drink as it was like eating chocolate filled with alcohol.

Seedlipper was another good mocktail because it had my favourite basil syrup and most importantly Seedlipper Garden 108, a distilled non-alcoholic spirit from UK.

Moving on to the food, there was something for everyone.

Foie Gras & Oyster in Yakitori Sake Sauce:
This was a delicious pairing of oysters and foie gras on crispy seaweed and cress drizzled in sweet yakitori sauce.

Rice Crackers with Vegan Mocktail Mousseline:
I loved the layered mousseline dip which had avocado which was thick and creamy.

Cheese Platter:

Abura-age tofu Yuzu or Xinjiang style:
If you order the abura-age tofu you get to choose yuzu or Xinjiang so I ordered both.
Xinjiang would definitely be my pick as I love those Xinjiang spices and cumin but yuzu was not bad either because it wasn't too sweet as anticipated.

Flambeed Tiger prawns wrapped in chicken skin:
Prawns are natrually yummy but with chicken skin that has been flambeed until its crispy makes them moreish!

Seasonal Fruits Platter :
This was unique and delicious, there was apricots, pineapples, figs and plums!
They were simply juicy and delicious without the sauce.

This is definitely the place to hangout.

My quest for vegetarian food is all about having acquaintance with it.
Ever since Fairwood launched the omnipork series I have been meaning to try the Omnipork tofu but their omnipork menu is on rotation.
I think there are 4 vegetarian dishes that are on rotation which means a 0.25 chance of that dish on the menu plus the probability of it not being sold out and the probability I haven't made plans for FOOD!

It was Thursday night and I was in Wanchai so I tried my luck!!!

It was on the menu and still available to order as it was 6ish that time so I was super happy as the guy at the cashier was super friendly.
Wanchai is a good bet because the office people have buggered off.
Evenings are better as you get table service just like McDonalds.
If it wasn't for omnipork, I doubt I would be dining here as the meat isn't edible because you just get fat and bones which I end up not eating.
If you look at it closely, the sauce is evidently a thick paste and dark.
Unfortunately it was too salty but the best omnipork tofu I have tried because you can taste the Sichuan peppercorns, salted vegetables (jaachoi) and shiitake mushrooms.
The taste is similar to the omnipork tofu at Green Common Deli recipe from TASTE. Kowloon Tong but GCD is sweeter.
As it was salty, I requested for more rice to finish it off and they were happy to give me more rice.
Funnily enough, I was still hungry afterwards.
Even though it was too salty, I am still going to try another branch and see how it compares.

Another HM with dine in

I love HM and this time I was lured by the Iwate salted chicken.
This branch has tables so I dined there.
The chicken was tastier than expected, the saltiness was interesting as you can taste the salt but it isn't overly salty.
The chicken thigh was springy and tender but I wish it was a bigger piece.
Overall satisfied.
The difference with dine in shops is that they serve soup as well meaning you can get the sets.
