Saw on Instagram, they had really good items on the tea set such as heart shaped egg on toast and toast with liver pate so I went there one afternoon for it.
As expected the pate was really good, it was silky and flavourful just like the pates I buy in UK.
I didn't realize they made it themselves because they said they get the livers from the market!
But anyway, eating toast, scones and stuff like this is just comfort food.
My friend had the new pork cutlet burger with avocado sauce.
Quite fancy but next time I'll have the toast with heart shaped egg and scones.

[Review 6241] The fish outshone their signature congee @ 海皇粥店 Ocean Empire Food Shop

I love fish so when I saw their poster for steamed fish I had to try it.
Most of their branches are grubby and old so I had to carefully choose which branch to dine at.
Steamed fish is not what they normally serve at this restaurant so the chefs would probably be annoyed at the not so routine task of steaming the fish, hence I was taking a risk at ordering this.
Interestingly they have ROTI as well.
Anyway I was in KTown and this branch was clean and there were not many customers so I went here.
To my horror, the place was clean but this little girl picked her nose and I was so shocked she swiped it on the table!
Anyway, my fish took a while to arrive but it was worth waiting for because it was simply delicious, the quality of the fish was fresh and chunky.
I needed an extra plate because there was too much oil when they steamed it so I took out the fish immediately.
Will definitely return for the fish because the taste was really good but $5x is quite expensive.

Reliving the good old days in one evening

As I was not brought up in HK, it felt like time travel on a time machine stopping by in the 1980s.There were pictures of old Hong Kong and the songs were of that era too.
I won't spoil it by posting photos of the place because I will concentrate on the food which is inspired by food in those days so I was really blessed that these were on the menu to order.
Starting off with drinks, they had a huge variety of Craft beers that are MADE IN HONG KONG.
I chose the Lion Rock which contains Blood Orange.
There was MOONZEN as well which I often see on the HK side.
The food selection was impressive because it was not just the lame stuff like pizza, baked dishes and fried items that you get in MongKok.
Started off with the woonjaichee chilled noodles with beer foam.
This totally stole the show, it was noodles at the bottom, topped with mock shark fin soup and topped with beer foam.
I absolutely loved it because the beer made it taste even better.
Next was the sweet and sour chicken cartilage with Hawthorn berry.
The sweet and sour taste was fantastic and jazzes up the boring fried cartilage.
Last but not least was the Savoury French toast filled with galangal ginger and pork.
If you love galangal ginger (sand ginger), you will love this and the filling was slightly creamy and reminded me of the delicious savory HEINZ toast toppers that you get in UK.
Cheers

Just for the Vegetable tea

Not many places serve vegetable tea so decided to check it out when I discovered it on FB.The last time I had it was in troublesome Sai Kung because that place only serves it after 9pm.

The vegetable tea was much better than anticipated because it was light packed with tender spinach, dried squid, preserved sausages and topped with crispy rice.

Also had a classic dumplings which were really tasty because you could taste tea strong dried fish in it mixed with the lean meat.

Next were the beef patties.
Personally I find them strange because the texture is firm and springy like squid which defies my texture of beef but that is how it is meant to be.

For mains, had the crispy tea tree mushrooms Typhoon shelter style.
They were fried just right and the batter was light and crispy yet the mushrooms were still juicy inside so it was so delicious.
Finished with the soup which came in a surprisingly big ceramic pot!
It was bittermelon and clams but the pepper was a bit too strong.

I rarely buy buns from this place but there was this new satay beef bun so I decided to get it.
It was $7 and the bun was quite big!
The filling tasted surprisingly good because it wasn't too sweet with a decent savoury satay taste to it.
The beef was a little chewy for my liking.
I didn't really like bun because it was a bit dry.
Might return for the tripe.

The order sheet is similar to those Japanese ramen joints and one side where no one sits reminds me of Japanese ramen bars.

The weird but comforting thing was the painting of Elgin Road on the wall with that famous noodle joint in Central. I wonder if Kowlooners/MKer would even know about this famous Dessert noodle joint.

Ordered pork knuckle with instant noodles. The pork knuckles were really good because there was a strong red beancurd flavour to it.
The seaweed was quite reasonable because it was clean and free of sand, however the broth needs improving because it was super salty or perhaps saltiness is a MK thing.

Normally I don't really bother having chiuchow noodles because the shops don't look clean and the staff look casual.
However, the guy at this shop was quite good looking hence I went in and the tables and decor was inviting.
If you're here then you are obviously here for the noodles and I had just that with beef balls.
The broth was strong and not oily and I loved the way it was topped with some pickled salty cabbage which makes it different to other Chiuchao noodle joints.

There were three different chili sauces, the yellow one was colourful with a strong fiery punch.
Just a little is enough and it tastes great with the dace balls which are loaded with diced mushrooms.
Finished off with freshly blanched lettuce which was sweet and healthy.
